How to build Samba4 using static linked libraries
Hi All:
I am building the torture/smbtorture for samba-4.0.0alpha17. After build, I am running the test in another environment.
I not only need to copy the binary smbtorture, I also need to copy the shared libraries. This is HUGE inconvenient for us.
Could somebody tell me how to build the binary using static linked libraries?
Thanks very much

Samba4 and discrepancies in the Wiki documentation
Hi all,
I am in the process of testing Samba4 Alpha (latest git pull as of 1
Aug 2011, reports itself as Alfpha17) as an additional DC in our
network but ran into a few problems. First of all I am using this
guide http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO#Samba4_HOWTO to
install it and on step 4 I followed the link to this guide

Samba does not work after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04.1
Hello,
today I upgraded one of my DCs to Ubuntu to 20.04.1. After that my DC did not work anymore, despite unmasking, reenabling.
In /var/log/samba/log.samba I get the error messages below. Looks like libraries are missing.
What shall I do?
Thanks, Joachim

smb_panic with 4.0.0rc2 on Debian Squeeze
Hi,
I have successfully compiled and installed Samba 4.0.0rc2 on Debian
Squeeze as described in the Wiki. In order to support Win XP and Win 7
clients, I have created GPOs for folders redirection. The problem I am
facing is with random PANIC messages in the logs and logon/logoff/file
access process gets hung on the client.
Here are the logs:

Troubles with Mac clients
Hello.
At a customer's site I had:
_ Windows 2008 DC;
_ Samba 4.8 fileserver on FreeBSD 11.3/amd64 on UFS;
_ several Windows and Mac clients.
Recently, having to move to Samba 4.10, I decided to bring up a new
fileserver in a jail (and let the base 4.8 one die after transferring
all shares).
I have no problems with Windows clients, but several strange things are
happening with Macs.

Is "vfs objects = acl_tdb" allowed?
Hi,
I had issues using"vfs objects = acl_xattr" (possibly too old version
[Version 4.13.13-Debian] for the needed "acl_xattr:security_acl_name =
user.samba" option needed if running in a non-priv container). So I
tried "vfs objects = acl_tdb" and found it working.
In https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/File_System_Support I found:

Lock order violation and file lost
I will probably file a bug about this, but perhaps someone here will
have some ideas.
We have a problem with files being deleted instead of being saved when
making changes in Microsoft Excel. The log shows an error of:
'Lock order violation'. This is with Samba 4.1.6 and happens on both
Linux (2.6.25-14.fc9.i686) and Solaris 10. No such problem when running
Samba 3.6.22.
We have a setup

NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
> 1) How do I make the nut-server and nut-monitor find the right pid files?
They are there but it seems they can't be opened. Permissions are nut/nut.
Actually, if the preceding lifetime of the service was a graceful stop, the
exiting daemon should have removed its PID files. Then the newly starting
one would check and not find them - as I wrote before - to make sure there
is no hung old

res_odbc crashes asterisk
I use realtime on my asterisk installation. I have always used
mysql for my realtime connection but as mysql seems to be on the "soon
to be deprecated" list of asterisk features I am trying to move to ODBC
(still using MariaDB/Mysql on backend). I find ODBC support in Asterisk
very unstable. Just today my asterisk server (a test server and a
production server) has crashed often
