What are the various models of DID providers
Hi,
Inspired by a recent rant about one particular provider, I am getting
very curious about something I've never mastered. I'd like someone to
explain this here or at least post a link or two that can educate me
and probably countless others who have no knowledge in this area. I'm
sure there are several of you reading this that know all about the
subject.
What are the various

Softswitch
Pardon my ignorance, but I was hoping someone could clear up something for
me.
- For a few POTS lines, digium has a single port card for that, or a T1 card
to a channel bank.
- For 10 or more lines, digium has a T1 or E1 card for that too based on PRI
channels
- For 100's to 1000's of lines, I suspect a soft-switch is in order???
A traditional phone company will sell:

Re: Asterisk-Users digest, Vol 1 #1835 - 12 msgs
Thanks Brian, and thanks again for the included definitions <grin> - that
helped too. Your comments are really helping clear many questions.
I suppose our intensions are to become an IXC.
So if my local carrier is sporting old technology, they'll provide TDM
services. So if I understood you correctly, the "in-band signaling" is
typically SS7, and the alternative is typically

CALLERID(ani2) inserting
I checked
https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Manipulating+Party+ID+Information
But I cannot find a way to insert CALLERID(ani2), which I can read, but
when I try to set it for a new call, I get a runtime error.
This information, known as isup-oli comes embedded in the From header, like
this
<sip:9087311878 at 64.45.157.104:5060;isup-oli=62>;tag=sansay1724414rdb124
and it can be read

the graph gallery strikes back
Hello useRs and helpRs,
Some time ago, in a gallaxy far away (here is the thread :
http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/46532.html ) we
discussed about a graph gallery showing the power of R in that domain. I
did some work around that, and there is a (pretty advanced) draft here :

For instance, there are some of my graphs,

Who are XO and L3?
Almost all DID providers refer to XO and L3. Are they the only sources for
DIDs in USA and everybody has to go to them? Could someone explain how
exactly it works?
Thanks

Dual Timing Sources
Hi,
With a digium dual PRI card (dual span). Is there any reason I can't
have both PRIs being PRIMARY timing sources? They are both from
different CLECs, and as such I need them both to do their own timing.

SIP-T to SIP Gateway
Hello,
There are some parameters in the ISUP data (coming into the network via
SIP-T packets) that need to be translated into SIP headers to be used by
asterisk for proper call routing. What gateways are available to accomplish
this?
Thanks,
Elliot

No matching endpoint found for incoming call from SIP trunk
Hello,
I have an Asterisk 13.6.0 PBX using PJSIP connected to the Twilio gateway.
I am able to make calls outbound through the gateway, but I am not able to
make calls into the PBX from external PSTN.
Specifically, an incoming call is _received_ by Asterisk, but it is not
able to route the call internally owing to the following error:

37signals Mantra
Hey all,
Figured this might be a decent place to ask, I am looking for design
firms, but very much would like to look into firms like 37signals that
understand how important usability is to a site''s success.
I''ve already got a call into 37signals so don''t think I''m going to
leave them out, but the more I have the better chance I have of
convincing the PHB that

Enterprise-class monitoring system for CentOS and Win2k3 server
Can anyone recommend an enterprise-class monitoring system for both
Linux and Windows servers? Here are my requirements:
SNMP trap collection, ability to import custom MIBs
isup/isdown monitoring of ports and daemons
Server health monitors (CPU, Disk, Memory, etc)
SLA reporting with nice graphs
Pager/Email/SMS alerts with groups, filters and escalations
Built-in MTBF and MTTR reporting

SIP, IAX2 and ISDN ISUP data
Hi all,
I'm looking at my options for getting access to ISDN ISUP fields from
DDI numbers, when connecting to a 3rd party Asterisk server. This is for
a custom voicemail solution, and at this stage I want to avoid renting a
PRI.
The information I need to capture is:
- Calling Number
- Called Number (e.g. the DDI handling the call)
- Redirecting Number (e.g. the device diverting to the

SIP-T Support (I got my head in an SS7 cloud)
Hey All,
I'm just daydreaming here.. but what's the status of SIP-T in Asterisk?
I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on SIP-T but seems like
just an extension of SIP. Right?
Now if I had a PSTN Gateway (that is a SS7 gateway) that supported
SIP-T, could I signal * with SIP-T from it and have asterisk utilize
MGCP to sieze a particular DS0 on a remote DS1? Hmm.. What am

OFF TOPIC: Core router upgrade for a voip colocation center
Hello, hope this isn't too far offtopic here but being a troller for a long
time here I've realized there is a great knowledge base so I wanted to at
least see if i could get some tips. I help run a small colocation company
in California and I am in the middle of recommending a new 'core router'
platform for our network. We offer mainly colo and dedicated servers, and

SS7 and PRI compatibility
Hello,
Is SS7 and PRI in any way compatible in that if the interface is
configured one it will work for the other (granted, it will not have
any of the ISUP, etc. parameters available if the line is PRI) or are
they two distince protocols that have incompatible signalling?
Thanks,

Problem with netlogon\logon.bat not mapping all drives
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me, I have searched for some reason but
cannot find any.
After migrating from a previous samba-3.0.10 (I think) PDC server to a newer
samba-3.0.23c server on Centos5, I have the strange problem that my XP
clients no longer map all the drives listed in the logon.bat during logon,
however if I run logon.bat manually after I'm logged in, all
