/usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh, SYSDIR set to wrong directory.
Hello, My 9-STABLE buildworld broke in a very inexplicable way, I was getting an error on /usr/src/include/osreldate.h that I couldn't figure out until I started looking at the sys/conf/newvers.sh and what it does. It turned out that the thing that broke my buildworld was having .git directory at the root directory of the system because I recently started using GIT to track the configuration

Driver for Realtek RTL8151GH-CG
Does anybody know if NIC Realtek RTL8151GH-CG is supported on FreeBSD 9.2 or 10.0? It is included in HP ProDesk 490 MT which I may buy, but I cannot find what hardware parts are supported by FreeBSD and what not. I am running FreeBSD for about 13 years on servers. I didn't run it on desktop grade HW for more than 8 years. So any tips for some solid home PC with i7-4770 (or i7-3770?) is

CLANG and -fstack-protector
Hello, Does the -fstack-protector option work on CLANG 3.1 and 3.2? There is thread on FreeBSD forums about the stack protector and ports and I'm wondering if it's possible to use the -fstack-protector option with CLANG. http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=36927 -Kimmo

zpool labelclear destroys GPT data
When i use zpool labelclear, it wipes the whole disk including gpt data. So the whole disk is empty and i need to create the gpt partitions again. Is this supposed to work like this? The man page suggests that it only wipes the ZFS metadata. zpool labelclear [-f] device Removes ZFS label information from the specified device. The device must not be part of an active pool

Jail resource limits
http://wiki.freebsd.org/JailResourceLimits Is this anthing people are working on? Is it on its way to RELENG_7? Is there a 7-version of the patch or anything? This would be a _VERY_ useful feature. -- Peter Ankerst?l peter@pean.org

sysctl maxfiles
By default FreeBSD 7.0 shipped with the sysctls set to: kern.maxfiles: 12328 kern.maxfilesperproc: 11095 We recently bumped up against these limits in an unfortunate way and we are going to raise them. I have some questions: * why are the numbers set the way they are? They aren't round numbers, they aren't powers of 2. But they were arrived at somehow with planning and thought

bsnmpd always died on HDD detach
I am running bsnmpd with basic snmpd.config (only community and location changed). When there is a problem with HDD and disk disapeared from ATA channel (eg.: disc physically removed) the bsnmpd always dumps core: kernel: pid 1188 (bsnmpd), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) I see this for a long rime on all releases of 7.x and 8.x branches (i386 and amd64). I did not tested 9.x. Is

Intel ICH7 SMBus support, ichsmb(4)
Hi there, I have been looking at a system which has the Intel ICH7 south bridge. Whenever I try to probe the SMBus on this system with 'smbmsg -p', I get a lot of status=41 timeout messages in dmesg from the ichsmb(4) driver. I have been given the addresses of the SMBus peripherals and have tried initiating reads to their register space directly using 'smbmsg', with the same

ListenAdress Exclusion
I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on a simpler way to exclude addresses from having listeners on them. I know a lot of people have multiple subnets, especially larger corporations. Some networks are non-route-able, and therefor unsuitable for use with SSH, aside from communication between other servers on the same subnet. Given that we may want to exclude those non-route-able

Ok, so I ran fsck manually (even with -y), but yet it refuses to clear/fix whatever to the questions posed as fsck runs. What does this all mean? ssh(d) identification string in portable (clarification)
Hello all, We got a report [1], that we miss "p1" suffix in the sshd identification strings in Fedora. I dig in and found out that it is also missing from portable usptream since 2004, when you were rewriting version.h header file with this information. Debian somehow patched this information back during the time in some places (ssh_api.c is missing). It does not look like

A simple rc.d jail patch to enable priority
Hello, I have written this tiny little patch to the jail rc.d script, which allows user to set jail nice value. It doesn't change any default behaviour. Can that make it to the trees? Short SMART check causes disk op timeouts
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi, I have recently bought a new disk (Seagate 500G, ST3500320NS). I have enabled SMART checking using the smartmontools as usual for the disk (/dev/ad6 -a -S on -s (S/../.././03|L/../../7/03) -m root). The problem is that each time the test runs I get messages like the following in /var/log/messages: Oct 26 04:54:15 35 kernel: ad6: TIMEOUT -
