File Permissions and delivery
Hi I'm very new to Dovecot (been using Courier for 5 years), but I've been persuaded of the merits of Dovecot and since the server needs upgrading that seems like the perfect time/excuse. On a test server, I set up postfix and installed Dovecot (running 32-bit Debian Squeeze, installed from apt-get). I mirrored the mail store (Maildirs, for historical reasons located under

Changing the imaps port #
Dovecot 2.3.4, FreeBSD 11.2 Due to comcast buisness ISP intercepting imaps I need to have my clients connect to non-standard port (9999). Previously I had been using stunnel to receive the imaps connection and forward it to the imap port over 127.0.0.1. But I would like to retire stunnel and have my imap clients connect remotely. I have configured the imap-login service - service imap-login {

No ports 445/139 & smbclient shows NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Hi all, I'm maintaining a small AD system on a computer called "ad" in our small charity, and it has been working fine for a year or so. However, "ad" is very rickety so we got a proper server purchased and now I'm trying to move the AD system over.  I've set up the new server called "org-ad" with Debian 9 and followed the instructions here

Samba4 Auto-start
Hello all, I'll cut to the chase -- several weeks ago, I thought I had an upstart configuration file that would start Samba4 when the VM was turned on; but it turns out I was wrong. At the time there was nothing on the wiki about it (the links were broken). The script I thought was working was simply: start on runlevel [2345] exec /usr/local/samba/sbin/samba In any case, looking at the

backup mdbox best strategy
Hello, i have to backup (tape library) a mailsystem with about 300.000 Mailboxes on 2 backends. Summary of all mailboxes are 2 TByte. The mailstore is mdbox. Is it save to do a simple filesystem backup (full and incremental) with backupsoftware? What is the prefered strategy to do a backup for desaster recovery (mailsystem crash) and restoring single usermailboxes? Regards, Claus

IPv6-enabled dovecot-1.1rc* does not accept IPv4-connections
Hi, I'm having a really really strange problem. After upgrading from 1.1.beta13 to 1.1.rc2 (happened with rc1 as well IIRC) I can't connect to the services using IPv4 anymore. dovecot happily binds to the IPv6 wildcard socket which should accept IPv4 connections as well. root at vs02:~# netstat -lnp --tcp | grep dovecot tcp6 0 0 :::993 :::*

Mails repopping
HI I don't know if this is a dovecot issue or a client one. But as Dovecot is the most recent change, I'll start here. I have a server that's been running Courier for about 6 years and in all that time I think I've only ever had 1 issues where an entire mail box was repopped by a webmail client. However, since moving to a new server and dovecot 4 weeks ago, I've now had the

Hello I'm running Samba 3.6.6 on a Linux host on a LAN connected to the Net, with my ADSL modem acting as firewall/router so as to keep local services like Samba unaccessible from the Net. Still, I wanted to check if it's safe to have nmbd reachable from 0.0.0.0 on UDP137/138: ~# netstat -tunlp Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address

Dovecot Deliver CPU usage
Hi All, We have upgraded the dovecot from 1.0 to 1.2.8. After upgradation we have noticed that dovecot deliver process is utilizing a lot of CPU. As a result the mailsystem will stop working. When we limit the no of procs in postfix for dovecot deliver the CPU usage will come down. But we are not facing this problem with the previous version. Below is the log files for dovecot when the error
