/usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh, SYSDIR set to wrong directory.
Hello,
My 9-STABLE buildworld broke in a very inexplicable way, I was
getting an error on /usr/src/include/osreldate.h that I couldn't
figure out until I started looking at the sys/conf/newvers.sh and what
it does. It turned out that the thing that broke my buildworld was
having .git directory at the root directory of the system because I
recently started using GIT to track the configuration

sshd didn't run after upgrade to FreeBSD 8.4
The version of sshd in FreeBSD 8.4 is not backward compatible with older
version from 8.3.
OpenSSH_5.4p1 (on FreeBSD 8.3)
OpenSSH_6.1p1 (on FreeBSD 8.4)
# sshd -t
/etc/ssh/sshd_config line 19: Missing argument.
On line 19, there is:

It was OK in older versions. It will remove any default text appended to

CLANG and -fstack-protector
Hello,
Does the -fstack-protector option work on CLANG 3.1 and 3.2?
There is thread on FreeBSD forums about the stack protector and ports
and I'm wondering if it's possible to use the -fstack-protector option
with CLANG.

bugged sysinstall, bsdlabel, zfs, gmirror - recept for disaster :)
Hello there!
Here's my story, hopefully some of you won't follow my steps and avoid
some troubles :)
Yesterday I've decided that's about time to test zfs functionality on my
home server PC (i386 FreeBSD 7.1-pre) . A couple of weeks ago I bought
new desktop PC (with SATA), so I had a bunch of PATA disks from old one
to use in server. Lucky me - there was 3 HDD at size 40GB -

Multi-machine mirroring choices
With the introduction of zfs to FreeBSD 7.0, a door has opened for more
mirroring options so I would like to get some opinions on what direction
I should take for the following scenario.
Basically I have 2 machines that are "clones" of each other (master and
slave) wherein one will be serving up samba shares. Each server has one
disk to hold the OS (not mirrored) and then 3 disks, each

permissions for dbox attachment directory
I am running dovecot 2.0.13 on CentOS5, set up with only local system
users, and single instance store set up in a single directory.
e.g.
mail_attachment_dir = /var/mail/attachments
I get errors when importing mail to IMAP because the attachment
directories are owned by the respective mail account user(s) and so cannot
be accessed or written to by other users.
Are there some user id setting I

make_dev_physpath_alias
Hello all.
I have a supermicro 16 bay box with a LSI 9211-8i card.
We use it for temp data storage, and we wanted to try the l4z compression.
After updating the source tree to r247839: and doing a make buildworld
cycle all works fine.
But at boot time we get some warnings.

shutdown -r / shutdown -h / reboot all hang and don't cleanly dismount
Hello -STABLE@,
So I've seen this situation seemingly randomly on a number of both
physical 9.1 boxes as well as VMs for I would say 6-9 months at least.
I finally have a physical box here that reproduces it consistently
that I can reboot easily (ie; not a production/client server).
No matter what I do:
reboot
shutdown -p
shutdown -r
This specific server will stop at "All buffers
