How to validate puppet manifests without actually executing puppet?
Hi,
I want to validate my puppet manifests before I check them into source
control. I just want to make sure that the manifest syntaxes are legal, not
to do any more complex testing - the checkin may be on my laptop and not on
the system that the manifests may be intended to run on.
Ideally I''d be able to do this from ruby code - and I did try to instantiate
some classes and override

Documenting puppet manifests
Hi there,
I''m trying to document my puppet manifests, and I have created kind of a
template for class documentation. After documenting a few I thought it would
be great for complex manifests if we could have a tool that read some kind
of standard documentation in puppet manifests and create HTML (or other
format) documentation, as javadoc in Java or RDoc (?) in Ruby. So two
questions:

non-US-ASCII charapters in manifests (windows & puppet 3.1)
Puppet 3.1 is released, but problem not fixed. Puppet 3.0 and 2.x don''t
test manifest for non-ASCII and write uncorrect characters to system (like
file names, folders, files and other) . But now Puppet 3.1 test manifest
and stop.<https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-aRLPbc_OYbA/UQY4w9ivc6I/AAAAAAAAACU/nqH8b5IRbgI/s1600/puppet%2B3.1b2.png>

behavioural testing of puppet manifests with cucumber-puppet
Hi,
I''d like to announce a little tool I have written, called cucumber-
puppet. It supports writing behavioural tests for your puppet
manifest, using cucumber. This allows for BDD-style manifest
development and fearless refactorings.

Run Puppet Against Master with Local node.pp Manifest?
Does anyone know if it''s possible to run Puppet as if it''s running with a
Master, but using a locally created node.pp manifest?
I''m looking into doing some unit tests on applications that are installed
by Puppet. To do this, I''m trying to use a test VM server which I''ll deploy
applications onto. I figure that the easiest way is probably to

testing static manifests
I would like to know how do people test a manifest that is basically static
without any parameter. By testing it, I mean not only check the syntax or
any invalid directive, but if the configuration there written is
implementing the expected behaviour when used. Of course, one way is just
point a machine to my puppet master and see that it has the right
configuration. But wouldn''t

puppet apply --hiera_config --> Error: Could not find class
Hi there,
I''m running into an problem which I can resolve. It is bugging me for
couple of days now.
Goal: CentOS 6.4 freshly installed incl puppet 3.2.3 and I want to install
puppet master, puppetdb, mod_passenger & apache with "puppet apply". So

can create new hosts etc.

Error reloading manifests
Hi there,
I''m running puppetmasterd manually while testing, and I was trying to split
my manifest in several parts using import. If I do so whenever I run the
puppetmasterd the manifest gets loaded and served correctly:

info: Parsed manifest in 0.02 seconds

How can I use "puppet apply" with hiera?
I''m running Puppet v2.7.14. I have a puppet master server with Hiera and it
works great. I also want to be able to apply my manifests locally on a
node. I have installed Hiera on my node and I can verify using the Hiera
command line application that values can be looked up:

Solaris SMF manifests and services in puppet
Anyone ever thought of making the service type in puppet able to
deploy new services? I''m not sure this would be useful for all OSes,
since package management systems generally install init scripts. Well
it''d still be useful for Linux if you''re managing any customized
services.
For Solaris, it''d be great if I could just give puppet an SMF XML
file, and say

How do I manage manifests most efficiently...?
Hi
As I''m more familiar with cfengine and it''s way to split updates (in
update.conf) from the actual grunt work (in cfagent.conf), I''m
wondering how to best manage puppet and my manifests with puppet...?
Should I define a puppet class that copy the puppet package (in .tgz
format) and all the manifests to the client, and then have all my
other classes depend on

CIDR-matching in puppet manifests?
I have a few settings that change based on the network that a system is
in, and I have a heterogeneous collection of networks (a few /24s, some
/25s, a /29 and a couple /27s, and hey look a /16 in rfc1918 space
and...). So I can''t do simple regex matches on dotted-quad IP notation
and expect to get a complete story.
What I''d like is something like, I dunno...

Apply a specific manifest on agent
Hi All,
I am new to Puppet and I am wondering if there is a way to just apply a
manifest one-time (present on the master, not included in site.pp) on an
agent node without having to edit site.pp? It''s like I want to run a
command on the agent that will do this for me.
Something analogous to "puppet apply <manifest>" except that the manifest
is not locally present on

need urgent help with including Ruby DSL class from puppet manifests
Hi,
I have a Ruby class in "nagios" module - it''s located in nagios/
manifests/ssa_nagios_checks.rb
and looks like this
hostclass :ssa_nagios_checks do
...
end
In nagios/manifests/init.pp I have
class nagios::server {
...
include ssa_nagios_checks
...
}
And I get the following error

puppet agent errors for non included module.
Does anyone know why i would get a module error for my ''base'' module that
I''m not even including for a node? I''m explicitly NOT include the ''base'',
yet puppet-client-t2 still errors when i pull it in. Snips from both are
below. Any ideas why this would happen?
Thanks,

Modules doesn't work from puppet agent.
Hi all,
I think i''m forgetting something.
If i do: "puppet apply manifiests/site.pp" it works perfectly, loading
modules i have include in site.pp file.
site.pp:
cat manifiests/site.pp
node default {
include ntp, motd
}
But it does not work if i run puppet agent.
puppet agent --test --server=debianita.user.arinso --environment production
