Correct Localized Numbers on Plots, related to glibc!
Dear R Helpers,
I want to localize my plots, i.e. the numbers by x & y axis be
Persian, using Persian numerals and Persian decimal separator. I
change the locale to fa_IR.utf8, but nothing on plots change. I can
change the numerals shaping to Persian ones (???? instead of 1234)
using some non-standard fonts but the decimal point is a problem. I
asked about that in Persian-Computing mailing

[fdo] Updated syncmail script for new CVS loginfo syntax
Hi,
If you are getting tired of being teased about updating your
syncmail script to the new CVS loginfo syntax, this mail is for
you.
If you have opted to use the CIA script, you have already
switched to the new loginfo format. If not, you need to do now.
For that you need to add
UseNewInfoFmtStrings=yes
to the CVS config file. Then if you have script using the old
format you can escape it

[fdo] UTF-16 support ?
Hi,
First, I'm not a specialist of UTF.
I've read (http://www.unicode.org/notes/tn12/) that Windows 2000..., Mac OS
X, QT/KDE fully support UFT-16.
I've just read (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42893) that
Mozilla 1.7 will include an option for UTF-16 webpages.
But I don't know about situations of Linux, Gnome or other applications.
Why not start pushing adoption

I just saw your post and I would definitely be interested in an 8 MB DOS

Undesired vertical lines in png file output using 'cairo-png'
Hello all,
I'm writing a file to PNG on Windows 7 using 'cairo-png'. I've been using
it without problem for a while, but abruptly I'm getting what look like
unplotted areas. I'm using the cairo-png specifically because it
sucessfully generates a transparent background, whereas 'windows' doesn't.
The actual issue has a lot of code I don't think it's

[fdo] Ssh service interruption of freedesktop.org
Hi admins, thank you for maintaining useful development
resources. But I'm in trouble. Please help.
I and some developers are unable to use ssh login over 24 hours.
Is there a intended service interruption? Or some problems are
lying?
I and some developers could slogin to freedesktop.org before the
problem had occurred. My local environment has not altered in
recent days.

I'm not aware of any official maintainers but supposedly
the gstreamer guys (http://gstreamer.sf.net) have a spec
file for it. I am going to look into it in the next
couple of days but when 1.0 comes out I'm sure RPMs will
pop up pretty quickly.

[R-pkgs] New package: passport
Hi!
I'm happy to announce the debut of my first package on CRAN, `passport`, to
help your country name and code data travel smoothly between formats.
`passport` brings simple utilities for parsing irregular country names to
standardized codes using local regex, or for anything geocodable, the Data
Science Toolkit or Google geocoding APIs.
Once the data is standardized, it has fast

Memdisk/floppy image question
Here is the script I put together now. I hope I haven't overlooked
anything.
You might need to modify the first section of variables to suit your setup.
Ofcourse you need to run this as root. May be some version of this
should be included with syslinux?
Basically given an existing floppy image, it creates a larger image and
copies its contents over and sets up the bootsector of the

More features in Syslinux 2.08
As far as I know the only thing close to that, is to boot DOS from a
floppy image (stored on the CD). The floppy image will contain the CD
drivers and hence you can use DOS to access the contents of the CD.
The floppy image is usually stored in the "boot sector" of the CD, or if
you are using utilities like ISOLINUX, then they can be stored on the
CD, and ISOLINUX/memdisk can boot

Using memdisk to remotely flash BIOS
I am using memdisk to remotely flash the BIOS and other firmware. It works well
for most flash programs. After the flash I need to initialize the NIC to send a
signal to my management server that the flash is complete.
I am curious as to how others have solved this problem.
Thanks.

Proposal: swfdec-gnome
Hi,
I'd like to propose swfdec-gnome for inclusion into the GNOME 2.22
desktop. Swfdec-gnome is a recent addition to the Swfdec project [1].
Its purpose is integration of Flash files into the Gnome desktop. It
currently provides a thumbnailer and a playback application for local
files similar to the stand-alone application Adobe ships on Windows.
It is supposed to replace the support that is

Universal Packet Driver
I often boot DOS using MEMDISK and 33MB HD images for remote flashing.
After my flash I need to activate the NIC and send a signal. Currently I
use different packet drivers for different NICs, but this link below looks
like a universal solution:
