relist, an inverse operator to unlist
Hi all,
I wrote a function called relist, which is an inverse to the existing
unlist function:
http://www.econ.upenn.edu/~clausen/computing/relist.R
Some functions need many parameters, which are most easily represented in
complex structures. Unfortunately, many mathematical functions in R,
including optim, nlm, and grad can only operate on functions whose domain is
a vector. R has a

Optim stripping attributes from relistable objects
Dear all,
The following code is inspired by the help file for the relist()
function (see?relist), which explicitly details how you can use a
relistable object in conjunction with optim to pass and reconstruct
complex parameter structures/groupings. The idea is that the optim()
function can only work with vectors, but in many cases you would like
to use a complex structure inside the objective

relist.Rd patch
There are a few typos in the documentation for relist(). I've also
made a few other changes to the file which I believe are
improvements. I've attached a patch against the version under the
'trunk' branch on the svn server checked out today. It was produced by
diff -u /usr/local/src/R/R-svn-trunk/src/library/utils/man/relist.Rd ~/relist-new.Rd
I'd also suggest identical()

Possible bug in 'relist()' and/or 'as.relistable()'
Dear list,
I think I just stumbled across a bug in either 'relist()' and/or
'as.relistable()'. It seems that 'pairlists' can only be un- and relisted as
long as they're not nested:
Good:
a <- as.relistable(as.pairlist(list(a=1, b=2)))
a <- unlist(a)
relist(a)# Works
Bad:
a <- as.relistable(as.pairlist(list(a=1, b=2, c=list(c.1=1, c.2=2))))
a <- unlist(a)

Creating a package skeleton with no flesh
Hi,
Wouldn't it be awesome if package.skeleton() could be used to
produce, well... a package skeleton? In a fresh R session:
> package.skeleton("mypkg")
Error in !have : invalid argument type
This (not very informative) error message seems to occur because
I'm trying to create a skeleton with no flesh on it:

optim() example in relist() help page
I think the optim() example in the Details section of relist()'s help
page is not totally correct. In particular, in the current form it is
not taken into account that vcov should be a symmetric matrix and only
the parameters in the lower (or upper) triangular part should be optimized.
A possible fix is:
ipar <- list(mean = c(0, 1), vcov = c(1, 1, 0))
initial.param <-

Skeleton Package to Flesh Out?
By any chance is there a skeleton package to use as a template to develop an R package?
I downloaded "Writing R Extensions", which was evidently updated pretty recently, but I did not see any references (and of course I may have totally missed it) to a package template to use as a go by.
Does such a skeleton package exist?
Thanks again for all your help, as I've got the code,

Empty package skeleton
Hi,
I know this has been reported/asked before (
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e15/devel/11/10/0831.html) but it would
still be just nice to have a fix for the not user-friendly fact that one
cannot create a completely empty package skeleton (see previous post for a
suggested patch).
In the same vein, I would add to the original suggestion from Herve Pages
that it would be nice to have a

Passing a large amount of parameters to a function
Hello,
I have a function with a long list of parameters (of different types,
numeric and string)
myFunc <-function(p1, p2, p3, p4, p5...etc)
{
do.something(p1,p2,....)
}
I want to loop over this to provide a different set of parameters to the
list every time.
for (ii in 1:N)
{
myFunc(p1(ii), p2(ii),....etc)
}
I would like to simplify the notation and use some kind of structure, maybe

Convert skeleton to "regular" format
Hi there,
we just encountered a problem with some tools obviously encoding into
the skeleton format by default, which leads to problems with several
other tools, in that particular case it's oggCut. When we try to
edit/cut an ogg file with it, the program crashes with a segfault.
I was able to locate and fix the problem in the oggCut source but I am
wondering how to convert my ogg files to a

Skeleton output support in speexenc
Hi,
I just added skeleton meta data output support in speexenc. The option
is disabled by default and can be enabled using -k or --skeleton. I'm
using a very simple skeleton API for handling skeleton packet
generation which is contained in skeleton.h & skeleton.c.
Please check the patch and whether xine/mplayer/quicktime and other
players support the skeleton enabled speex file. At the

Rcmd check problem
Hi, all.
I was trying to build my R package with R 2.15.1 32bit and win7.
I basically follow the routine in Steven Mosher's blog
http://stevemosher.wordpress.com/step-10-build/
After I fixed the path, and built the skeleton of the package, I started
command prompt and used the following commands in building my package
Rcmd check myPackageName
Rcmd build myPackageName
Rcmd check

Ogg index and Skeleton 4.0
Hi everybody,
I've updated OggIndex to now output Skeleton 4.0 tracks. The differences
between Skeleton 3.x and Skeleton 4.0 with OggIndex is:
* The fisbone packet now includes a "Radix" field.
* The fisbone packet now includes two new compulsory message
headers; "Role" and "Name".
* The fishead packet no longer includes "start time"

Merging Ogg streams whilst updating the Skeleton?
Hi All
I'm currently trying to put together an ogg file with two theora streams,
a handful of audio streams (probably mixed vorbis and opus), and a
Skeleton stream that describes their relationships to each other. I had
hoped to be able to use the oggz suite of tools, but I can't seem to get
that to work.
To generate my theora files, I'm using ffmpeg2theora, which will happily

Then maybe it would be a good idea to do the API change needed for
checking magic now ?

R 2.7 package.skeleton
Hi the devel list
I am testing package.skeleton in R 2.7 (download today). I get an error
that I do not understand. I guess it is not an error from my code since
I have no probleme when I source it. So is it a error in
package.skeleton?
Here is my code :

package.skeleton() does not create 'data' folder
Hi again, yesterday I mailed this query however I could not see this
on the mail list. Therefore, I am reposting it again.
I was using package.skeleton() function to create the
skeleton of my package in windows. Here is my attempt:
rm(list = ls())
setwd("F:/R_PackageBuild")
package.skeleton("trial1", namespace = TRUE, code_files =
"F:/R_PackageBuild/trial.r")
