DNS Domain Name vs Samba4 Domain Name vs NT4 Domain Name
Hi, I am unclear on the relationship between the hostname, DNS domain, server's FQDN, NT4 domain name, etc. Quoting the HOWTO: "For the rest of the HOWTO we will assume that your DNS domain name is samdom.example.com, your short (also known as NT4) domain name is samdom, your Samba server's hostname is samba and the IP Address of your Samba server is 192.168.1.2." GPO Permissions _AGAIN_
Hi all, I'm afraid I'm back to my old issue of GPO permissions. I have two ADDCs providing an AD Domain (internal.stmaryscollege.co.uk (short-name 'SMC')). Servers are called 'ad-01' and 'tainan'. ad-01 is 'Version 4.0.10' and tainan is 'Version 4.1.0rc4' (the latest version in the package repos of the respective OSs (arch and gentoo)) I have

Remove dead server from domain.
Hiya, I have an S4 domain running that I added another S4 machine to as an extra domain controller. That machine, unfotunately died (quite spectacularly I must say, think magic blue smoke). I would like to remove the dead domain controller from the domain. In ADUC I can see the DC under 'Domain Controllers' but when I try to delete it (having ticked the 'permanently offline'

wbinfo -r 'username' displays inconsistent results across DC's
Hello,     Looking up a users group membership I'm showing different results on each DC. UID and GID mapping appears consistent but not all group membership is displayed. I've verified idmap.ldb is backup up and copied over to the other DC's. I do notice when taking a hot backup of idmap.ldb, the file size is dramatically smaller than the original. ACL on GPO directory does not match expected value from GPO object. AGAIN.
Hi all, Some (then all) of our workstations were complaining about incorrect ACLs on GPOs and were unable to read the gpt.ini to apply the GPOs. So I did a sysvolcheck and sure enough I'd lost the ACLs when I moved our sysvol share to a new location on the server (whoops, mea culpa). I ran a sysvolreset which took a long time to return (some 5 minutes, please see my post on slow winbind

change uid/god below 100
Hi. Only indirectly related to zfs. I need to test diskusage/performance on zfs shared via nfs. I have installed nevada b64a. Historically uid/gid for user www has been 16/16 but when I try to add uid/gid www via smc with the value 16 I''m not allowed to do so. I''m coming from a FreeBSD backgroup. Here I alter uid using vipw and edit /etc/group afterwards. -- regards Claus

Weird issue when accessing a samba4 domain member by IP vs hostname
Hi all, I seem to be posting a lot recently. I have just set up an S4 member server to a S4 AD DC. When trying to access from a windows XP client via \\xen-arch-s3-01 I get a username+password box which doesn't accept my credentials. If I try to access via \\192.168.0.111 I get straight on, no questions asked. Doing a loglevel 10 I see the following differences: \\xen-arch-s3-01 =

using paste and "\" to create a valid filename
Sometimes even the easy stuff is difficult (for me)... I want to get input from different places to paste together an excel filename (so you know I'm using windows) that I can open with RODBC. I know about using double "\" since its an escape character, but I get either 2 or none, I can't get just one "\" where I need it. See example code below. I am using R 2.1.0,

Tracing the consequences of overlapped id mappings
Hi, I'm trying to find out consequences of overlapped idmap settings that used with 4.3.11 DC's. I'm about to upgrade these DC's to 4.8 version. Before deploying new DCs, I want to make sure that any side effects regarding id map settings will be left behind. # ldbsearch -H /var/lib/samba/private/idmap.ldb | grep xidNumber \ | cut -d' ' -f2 | sort 0 100 3000000

What a Difference a NIC makes
Just to throw this out there for the group. I had a box of OEM SMC NICs and have been using them in all systems I build including * boxes. They seem to work great in Windows machines and even plain old Linux workstations but apparently not all that well when realtime is required. I would get random and usually sparse disconnects and lose registrations with phones and IAX peers. I kept getting

SMC Webconsole 3.1 and ZFS Administration 1.0 - stacktraces in snv_b89
I''ve installed SXDE (snv_89) and found that the web console only listens on https://localhost:6789/ now, and the module for ZFS admin doesn''t work. When I open the link, the left frame lists a stacktrace (below) and the right frame is plain empty. Any suggestions? I tried substituting different SUNWzfsgr and SUNWzfsgu packages from older Solarises (x86/sparc, snv_77/84/89,
