interesting note - not sure just how to take care of this one
Hello all,
the dovecot -> ldap connection is working correctly but I notice
something in my maillog that is disturbing:
dovecot.conf in the passdb section I have
passdb passwd {
}
then it drops down into the ldap stuff.
The user gets validated via this first and if it fails passes on to the
ldap stuff.
the problem is:
in the file the user's unencrypted password is showing up as

Any way to disable imap on all but localhost ?
Noticed that some configuration settings like
imap_listen appear to have been removed.
Any way to accomplish this ?

Resolving computername from ip
Hi,
Is there, on a intranet, any way to resolve the computername from its ip
? I have a setup where I know which users are on which ip, and I
wan't to notify some events to some users with a "smbclient -M". But
since I don't know the computername, I don't know any way to send the
popups...
thanks

-R port:host:hostport - communication lost after some minutes
Hi
As this '-R' command initially works fine I guess it must be a bug.
I have to login at a computer which is hidden behind NAT. The user
(joe) at the computer then connect to my server with the command:
ssh -R 1234:localhost:22 test.com
Then I login to test.com and connect back to joes computer:
ssh -p 1234 localhost
I get successfull connection every time but after a few

ogg123 -k 1:59 patch.ogg # minutes and seconds
Hi
I have helped a user with a little patch for ogg123. He uses ogg123
for very big files, often more than an hour (blind books). When he
breaks the book and later on want to go back to the same chapter, it
is a little troublesome to calculate the seconds. Minutes is much more
convenient as it is what is written on the screen.
I guess my patch is a little buggy and would like to improve it

hashed password, send reminder email...impossible?
Is it possible to somehow send an email containing the user password if
it is stored as a md5 hash in the database?
Is it stupid to save the passwords as clear text strings in the db? Its
a web shop.
A workaround would be to generate a new password and send it to the
user. If the user then want to, he may change to another password.
Any other thoughts on this?

wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
After installing a text-based development environment via /stand/sysinstall
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via
battery not installed, but battery still 100% and NUT 2.7.2-4 does not catch this and report a error

Hi

APC Smart-UPS 1500 connected through USB, running nut driver usbhid-ups
This UPS powers my switches, internet connection and my monitor server that
monitors this and my other UPSes + runs smokeping and nagios.
But recently a powerloss seemed to have shutdown my monitor PC immediately, so
it did not shut down the other servers cleanly. Power seem to be lost

Inline editing of datetime and dropdown select objects?
I don''t believe that Rails has support for the inline editing of
datetime objects or dropdown combo boxes.
Does anyone have a helper function or two that would allow me to do such
a thing?

ogg123 ^C changes
Hi
There is a good thing with ogg123. When playing multiple files, like
ogg123 a.ogg b.ogg
Ctrl-C will skip to next file.
However, if I first do a
cat a.ogg b.ogg > c.ogg
and then
ogg123 c.ogg
Ctrl-C will simple skip the and not just jump to chapter two.
Is it a big change to ogg123 to just let it jump to next block when
pressing Ctrl-C ?
best regards/hans

No localhost after reboot
Rebooted the server box today. Now Dovecot doesn't listen at
localhost. It does listen at the LAN interface, so it is
perfectly usable, but...
Does anyone have any idea why it has stopped listening at
localhost?

calculating uidnumber
Hi,
I'm building my system on a LDAP backend, but I wan't to have full
control over the user creation-process. I have developed a backend in
php, to handle most of my needs. Except for calculating the uidnumber,
from where i calculate sambaSID...
My question is, can I call a function somewhere that returns the next
uidnumber/gidnumber? or do I have to look at idmap?
Thanks

missing gcc-42-5666.3-darwin11.pkg
Hi there,
I just wanted to install gfortran via homebrew on mac os x mountain
lion. It uses the package gcc-42-5666.3-darwin11.pkg for installation.
Unfortunately I recognized that this package is not available anymore.
But the google cache told me that it was available at
http://r.research.att.com/tools/gcc-42-5666.3-darwin11.pkg some time
ago (the site was cached at Sep 30th).
Does anybody

Hi
I have a Red Hat 7.6 server with samba-4.8.3 which report
lookup_name_smbconf failed when running "smbclient -L" from another console
on the same server. smbclient works fine on an old server running Suse and
samba version 3 and thew the

Any ideas of where to look or what to try?
I got this in the logfile:

ldap, quickie...
Hi,
I'm a bit confused over the whole "dn" concept .... various
documentation states that I should create new samba-entries with
dn: uid=user,ou=<user-org>,dc=<domain>
and other states that i should do it with
dn: cn=user,ou=<user-org>,dc=<domain>
Right now i have a few entries, created both ways... and since i'm not
quite home in ldap, I haven't
