CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know. I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

Permission denied using mount.cifs
I'm having a strange problem mounting a share from a Windows 2003 server using cifs: mount.cifs //osirus.ficticious.org/inetpub /inetpub -ouser=transfer,pass=dkfhjdjskd It comes back immediately with: mount error 13 = Permission denied Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) However, the command below works. (abeit with about a 15 second wait before it comes back):

rsync uploading using ASCII translation ... ?
I am running rsync 2.6.3 on Cygwin 1.5.11-1 over ssh to a remote server (server is also running rsync 2.6.3). When I upload a file via rsync to a remote server, its filesize on the remote is much larger than the local copy, leading me to believe some sort of ASCII translation is being done. Some interesting things: 1. If I upload the file using scp instead of rsync, it works perfectly. 2. If

excluding directories in rsync
Hello Everyone, I am trying to exclude a directory (and all file and sub-directories under that directory) when using rsync. I have spent two days on google, but everything that I can find there involves excluding individual files, not an entire directory. I have tried the following commands, but in each case the remove_dir and all of its sub-directories and files area still sent to the remote

Mapping a drive letter to a Samba share
Hey guys, I'm in kind of a crunch right now. Due to a poorly written script that I don't have control over, I need to be able to map a drive letter to a Samba share so that it works seamlessly with UNC (i.e \\server\Share <file:///\\server\Share> ). Basically, I need a way for a share name with a $ in it to be recognized as a valid network name. My current setup is like so:

cwRsync- chdir failed, server 2003
I'm having prolems with cwRsync on server 2003. I'm getting pretty much identical results to this from the archive: http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2004-April/009187.html, and as far as I can see the only suggestion there was to check permissions. I have one further complication too- I'm trying to sync a remote server on to a vmware virtual disk that I've mounted using the

RSync on Windows 2003
Hello, I'm desperately trying to have a RSync server work on a Windows 2003 Standard Server. All the documentation available I have found applies to Windows NT/2000/XP I don't know whether 2003 works differently from the previous Windows. I have installed the cwrsync package. The RSyncServer Service is running fine under a user account named cwrsync. A successful Telnet on the port 873

Windows Trouble with --link-dest set: "file not found" when rsync tries to create hard link
I have great luck running rsync from one linux system to another, or from a windows system (with cwRsync) to a linux system. But when I try to do an rsync backup from one directory on a Windows system to another, it fails. The cwRsync says its version is 2.6.9. Here's my Rsync command, boiled down to its simplest: rsync -rlptgD -vvv --delete --delete-excluded --modify-window=2

Hard links revisited
I can't seem to get the hardlinks to work in windows via --link-dest. It just refuses to find the files in the directory and make a hard link. Here's the setup. -I run 2 rsyncs from batch files called sync.bat and sync2.bat. -I'm connected to the server via a mapped network drive, we'll call it 'z'. -I then run the client, on the destination, once to pull the data

RSync from NAS machine over WinXP with cwRSync to another PC
Hello, some people want to use the following construction: they have a NAS machine with an integrated rsync (may be on embedded linux). they have a WinXP with cwRsyncServer (with rsync 3.0.2) and they have on WinXP a network share (i.e. Y: == "//192.168.100.123/sharename") They can use NAS / WinXP with cwRsync to copy files from NAS to a local path on the WinXP machine. But how

The server is configured to refuse --iconv
I've just tried upgrading to cwrsync 2.1.0 (Rsync version 3.0.0 protocol version 30) between 2 Windows XP Pro sp2 machine across the Internet. I used: SET CYGWIN=nontsec SET HOME=c:\cwrsync\bin C:\cwrsync\bin\rsync -za -u -P --delete --recursive /cygdrive/c/test2/ stuart@test.address.co.uk::test/ When I run the above batch script on the remote machine I get this odd output.

Timeout, server not responding
I have several WinXP laptops which have been backing up to a FreeBSD 6.0 server via rsync for a good while now. Now one laptop is giving me grief. I am running cwRsync and invoking a remote rsync daemon via a shell command: cmd /K "rsync.exe -avr --rsh=ssh --progress --stats --delete /cygdrive/d/"My Documents" user@server::user_data" I get this error locally: Quote:

Can't chdir to directory on mapped share, no such directory?
I'm using cwRsync which incorporates rsync-2.6.7 with Cygwin. I've got it set up as a server and it works for local directories but when I try to set up a module with path /cygdrive/m/dirname it tells me that it can't chdir to that path, error 2, no such file or directory. I copied Cygwin mount and ls to the machine and mount reports that /cygdrive/m is indeed there, and ls can

buffer overflow in recv_exclude_list using rsync under windows?
Hi, First post to the list, so please feel free to set me straight if I'm not following some protocol or other :o) We need to use rsync to send files to a client, being a Windows user, we decided to try both the cwrsync implementation and also a straight cygwin/rsync install. I'm experiencing the following errors: using cygwin implementation: $ sh clientupload.sh

Dreaded ERROR 5 In Robocopy
I'm still battling the dreaded "ERROR 5 (0x00000005)" error when trying to robocopy files from a W2K box to Samba 3.0.7 on FreeBSD. I've been fighting this since Samba 2.2.8 and the upgrade hasn't fixed it for me despite the entries in the changlelog. Now here's the strange part. If robocopy is sending NEW files, files which are on W2K but not on the Samba box, the copy
