checking puppet run status of node A during puppet run of node B
I have some middleware where the successful configuration of node B is dependent on the successful configuration of node A. Node B must pull additional information from node A during its configuration. Is there any built in functionality in puppet for checking the completion status of other nodes? Right now my intent is to write a custom function to query the puppetdb which is storing

Searching for Nodes
Hello All, I''m reviewing switching to puppet from chef and am trying to identify how to port the various features. I have hit a stumbling block searching for nodes. In Chef i could search for a node by role, but I am lost as how to do this with puppet and classes. Example: I want my load-balancing node to look for all application server nodes and grab their ip address (and hostname

Puppet/Nagios/PuppetDB slow performance
Hi all, For months now I''ve been using Puppet with PuppetDB backend to manage my Nagios configs. We now have 1200+ services being checked and including servicedependency, host, hostdependency, command and other Nagios resources being managed, that''s about 3000 resources in total. Unfortunately this means the monitoring server takes about 8 minutes to perform a Puppet run.

puppetdb - getting a list of specific facts for specific hosts?
I''m trying to query puppetdb for a list of hosts maching a certain regex (on hostname) and only returns 2 facts (ipaddress and hostname) I''m trying to follow: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/puppetdb/latest/api/query/tutorial.html and I''m not even quite sure, wether or not, I should use a facts or a nodes, or a resources query ? I get some of the queries to return just

PuppetDB/Hiera post-install verification??
Hi Everyone; Can anyone suggest any post installationtests to verify the functionality of both puppetdb (using postgres) and hiera? I am a somewhat nbew user and I am not really sure what a good, quick method is to verify the functionality pst install. If anyone could suggest steps/test cases, that would be greatly apprecaited! I also think this would be useful to include as a section in the

Help with scaling puppetdb/postgres
Hello, I''m currently trying to deploy puppetdb to my environment but I''m having difficulties and am unsure on how to proceed. I have 1300+ nodes checking in at 15 minute intervals (3.7 million resources in the population). The load is spread across 6 puppet masters. I requisitioned what I thought would be a powerful enough machine for the puppetdb/postgres server. A machine

Force Fact within manifest
I have a requirement where I want a Fact to be stored in PuppetDB during the manifest run and not during the initial fact gathering phase. I know I can, in my manifests, create a file in /etc/facter/facts.d or I can write a Ruby script that will then be distributed by plugin sync. But both of these methods will only publish the fact during the initial phase of the puppet agent run. What I

introducing puppetboard 0.0.1
Hello everyone, It’s a lovely grey and rainy day here in the Dutch summer, as good a day as any to release a new little project. Its name is Puppetboard and has as aim to replace Puppet Dashboard’s reporting functionality. It does not nor will it include ENC features. It does all this without storing any data itself but querying PuppetDB instead. The whole thing is built in Python and

puppetlabs-ntp template discussion
Hi guys, As I mentioned in a previous email I''ve refactored ntp and released a 1.0.0 release candidate. There''s one outstanding "flaw" remaining that''s bothering me and I wanted to solicit opinions on the list. We currently maintain a template per distribution that is close to the stock distribution provided ntp configuration. This leads to massive

puppetlabs/puppetdb module when using passenger for master
I''m working on configuring a master in a lab environment, using Puppet Open Source. My master is running RHEL 6. I want to use modules to manage the master itself as much as possible, so I can use puppet to bootstrap itself as I go forward and move into production.
