the notorious "GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing" error
I'm not reporting a bug (I know it's not the right place to do that
anyway), but a little help would be appreciated.
Once again I run into the famous "compiz: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is
missing" error. The problem is I can't figure out what's wrong.
I use fedora core 6 on an athlon XP with an ati RV250 and the radeon
open-source drivers

free from GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
You might have hear this before. I just came across it today.
from http://blog.beryl-project.org/
"I am running your svn and have noticed this non-tfp Beryl, what is this?
It is exactly what it sounds like, an early attempt (with some success I
might add) to make Beryl run without the need for texture_from_pixmap.
No more black window bug from nvidia, no more Xgl, no more AIGLX. Oh

XGL and Xorg confusion
Hi,
As there has been some confusion over Xgl and Xorg here, I thought I'd
just post this. XGL acts as a client to the Xserver and acts as a server for
all programs connecting to itself. Instead of displaying its results on a
monitor, it interprets the display and calls the appropriate OpenGL APIs;
the OpenGL driver physically interacts with the screen, keyboard and mouse.
So you do need

Compilation failure as of 20060502
Hi,
The changes yesterday breaks compilation for me. I do have the latest
glproto (1.4.7) and mesa cvs (20050603, i.e. a couple of hours ago) and
xgl (20050603) have been recompiled after the updates.
Here's the initial error (with a whole lot similar):

FGLRX using Aiglx??
Hi!
AFAIK FGLRX doesnt support glx_ext_texture_from_pixmap, and enabling
composite+dri is resulting in screen corruption even with 8.38.6. Then how
are you guys running it without XGL?

Karthik

AIGLX Support with nVidia 9625 Drivers
Hello,
I'm on a Gentoo machine with the latest beta nVidia 9625 Drivers,
trying to get Compiz to work with AIGLX... simply running 'compiz', or
even with the addition of any options other than version, causes
compiz to detect that it is indeed not XGL, and then segmentation
faults... please note that I have only currently tried this with

compiz composited video and alpha only GLX pixmaps
I've added a simple plugin to compiz that provides a way to render video
efficiently on a composited desktop.
A video playback client basically copies video data to a pixmap and sets
an X property on a client window that describes the image format of the
data and where it should be rendered.
The compiz video plugin will scale and perform necessary colorspace
conversions when compositing the

error: GLX extension missing on server
Hi List,
when loading library(rgl) I get error "RGL: GLX extension missing on
server". I have Mesa and xgl installed, but xgl info sais its an highly
experimental code. Does this mean I shouldn't bother for a while with
opengl or are there alternatives?
Any help appreciated
Thanx

Using Compiz in KDE
I have had a rather hard time enabling Compiz on my Dell laptop, as it
has an ATI X1400 video card. I found a tutorial which helped me
configure Compiz in Gnome, but I'm not about to switch to Gnome. I
hope that someone here can help me translate the scripts used in the
tutorial to start KDE instead of Gnome. I myself have been unable to
do so, after a good day googling the subject.

ATI and GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap error
Hello,
I am trying to install and run compiz on my computer since a few months
yet and there is no way. Today I checked out the latest git version and
it does not work neither.
I have a ATI Radeon 7500 rev200 and I think thats the problem. I am
using the open source radeon driver and xorg with AIGLX (on debian
testing/unstable). DRI is enabled and working, glxgears, too. The output

AIGLX + r300 + compiz?
So I've spent the last few days getting Xorg pulled from freedesktop git
and built. Everything seems to have worked, and I now have Xorg version
7.1.99.2 running, composite enabled, and AIGLX enabled. The Xorg log
file shows:
(WW) AIGLX: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x23
(WW) AIGLX: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x24

Using glitz directly vs using XRender
Hi,
In the past I've found that using the glitz backend to Cairo with Xorg
made some simple animation tests I wrote go much faster. I haven't yet
tried them with Xgl but I was wondering which backend is theoretically
'best' in this configuration?
My understanding is that Xgl feeds everything drawn to the screen via
OpenGL - a bit like Quartz 2D Extreme will when Apple get it

Xvideo and X.org on Intel GMA

Hiho,
I already reported this in <455F4553.9020109@tommie-lie.de> and found
time to reinstall compiz yesterday and the problem still persists.
I have Ubuntu's X.org 7.1.1 running on a Intel GMA 950 and latest
compiz. When watching Xvideo files, the overlay window remains black. If
I slightly move the video window, the video appears with

Compiz porting plan, for help
David & All,
As you might have heard, Intel recently introduced a new low-power device called a Mobile Internet Device (MID). We're working in Intel's Open source Technology Center on the Linux Desktop UI. Given the small screen we're planning on using a stack-based window manager where each application runs full-screen (think Matchbox). We think it would be very cool to get a

compiz without a desktop window
Running compiz without a desktop window has some unexpected behavior.
It is not possible to grab the cube with the mouse. The pointer needs to be over a window for it to work.
In display.c the XSelectInput call in addDisplay is missing ButtonPressMask and ButtonReleaseMask, so it makes sense why this doesn't work.
Is there a reason why they have been left out?

3 xgl/compiz problems
Looking deeper to compiz/xgl I found three problems in my system that I
report to you hoping to be somehow a little useful.
I didn't find any of them using Xorg 7
First my testing environment:
KDE 3.5
latest XGL cvs - XORG-7.0
Nvidia FX5200 64Mb
Latest nvidia drivers
Kernel 2.6.16.1
XGL problems:
1) xine is somehow broken with xgl, even with no composite managers:
it is very slow even when

Install XGL under CentOS 5 with ATI X600 and dual-head configuration
Hi again.
I've got a laptop with an ATI X600 inside, perfectly working xorg with
dual head configuration, 2 desktops (without xinerama).
I've got 2 xorg.conf files, one for propietary ATI (fglrx) driver, and
other to use the open source driver. The difference is very notorious.
The problem I have is that I read (Saint Google) that to work with
compiz/beryl and dual-head configuration, I
