3 xgl/compiz problems
Looking deeper to compiz/xgl I found three problems in my system that I
report to you hoping to be somehow a little useful.
I didn't find any of them using Xorg 7
First my testing environment:
KDE 3.5
latest XGL cvs - XORG-7.0
Nvidia FX5200 64Mb
Latest nvidia drivers
Kernel 2.6.16.1
XGL problems:
1) xine is somehow broken with xgl, even with no composite managers:
it is very slow even when

first entanglements with custom drop-shadows
Hi there again!
I wanted to give a brief glimpse of the look of the new/customizable
drop-shadows for compiz. In contrast to my earlier post today I
currently follow the brute-force approach. 9 elements for the shadow...

For the middle shadow-part there is a 2D-vector as parameter to allow

[RPMS] XGL/Compiz git Fedora packages
Hello,
I'm new to the list but I've been following it since its inception.
First of all sorry for the length of this post, if you're not a Fedora
user just skip it.
I've been building Compiz packages since Fedora Core 5 came out (Xgl
only) and updating since then with all the new stuff, AIGLX and
whatever. I use them on a very large range of hardware.

Patch for water plugin to make time between rain-drops adjustable
Hello,
I love the work that is being done with compiz! I have made a patch for
water.c that makes the time between rain-drops adjustable using gconf.
This way you can leave the plug-in running and just have pleasant drops
every now and then instead of the rainstorm that is hard-coded in now
(which is still fun now and then!).
The gconf value is in ms (1/1000 of a second). Suggestions for

White boarders on size 32 shadows. Intel platform only
Recently, I brought up a topic about white boarders being drawn instead of
shadows in Gnome-Window-Decorator. A patch was made up by gandalfn to
correct this by making 32 pixel shadows 33 pixels, however the patch was not
committed because it was a workaround.
This is a huge functional annoyance to us intel users and needs to be cured.
There are two soultions I can think of:

compiz without a desktop window
Running compiz without a desktop window has some unexpected behavior.
It is not possible to grab the cube with the mouse. The pointer needs to be over a window for it to work.
In display.c the XSelectInput call in addDisplay is missing ButtonPressMask and ButtonReleaseMask, so it makes sense why this doesn't work.
Is there a reason why they have been left out?

drop-shadows
I've now added configurable drop-shadows to g-w-d. You'll need current
CVS version of Xgl, which includes important convolution filter fixes
for properly rendered shadows.

compiz on aiglx redux
Hi,
I've revisited compiz on aiglx and at this point, if you're running
rawhide (fedora development), it's a matter of installing the i386 RPM
found here:
http://people.redhat.com/krh/compiz/
There's a SRPM there too for other architectures, rebuild using
rpmbuild --rebuild compiz-0.0.13.fedora1-3.src.rpm
To run compiz, first start the gnome-window-decorator process in

gnome-window-decorator not working
Hi
I compiled a fresh git checkout of compiz today with metacity theme
support enabled. While Compiz is working fine, gwd isn't. I'm just don't
get any window titles and stuff, just like it's not there. Any help?
Ubuntu Edgy Eft
Nvidia Ti4200 with newest beta drivers with tfp support, so I'm running
this without XGL, just with the composite extension

Compiz starts, but no 3D effects
I just installed Compiz on Ubuntu Feisty (Gutsy does not work on my
hardware as per the release notes) via the
http://ppa.launchpad.net/amaranth/ubuntu repo, which is the repo
suggested in the compiz-fusion website. The machine is a Dell Inspiron
E1505 / 6400 with the horrible ATI X1400 graphics card and 1680x1050
monitor. I installed XGL and the proprietary ATI driver, a combination
that worked

patch for colored drop-shadow
Greetings everybody!
Here's a patch (against compiz from CVS-head about 30 min. ago) that
adds a shadow_color option to the parameters of the decoration-plugin. I
only needed to add a few lines to decoration.c and
gnome-window-decorator.c. The only thing missing is the compiz.schema. I
dare not touch that XML-file manually. So after you applied the patch,
recompiled compiz and restarted

configuration tools
Hi,
I was looking around for configuration tools for compiz. I don't really need
anything special, but situation seems a bit problematic at the moment:
- gset-compiz: Used it in the past, website is dead.
- compiztools: Never seen it, but from what I read seems ok, but website
defaced and download dead
- csm: doesn't work with vanilla compiz
So: Is there any tool atm to set the compiz

Problem with shadows and the new NVIDIA drivers
Hi all,
I've been trying out the new NVIDIA drivers and everything seems to be working
great except that shadows are rendered incorrectly - as solid black (or what
ever the shadow colour happens to be) without the gradient effect. Setting
the opacity level of the shadows makes no difference.
This occurs with Beryl too, but I don't think it's actually a bug in either
program but

AIGLX Support with nVidia 9625 Drivers
Hello,
I'm on a Gentoo machine with the latest beta nVidia 9625 Drivers,
trying to get Compiz to work with AIGLX... simply running 'compiz', or
even with the addition of any options other than version, causes
compiz to detect that it is indeed not XGL, and then segmentation
faults... please note that I have only currently tried this with

FGLRX using Aiglx??
Hi!
AFAIK FGLRX doesnt support glx_ext_texture_from_pixmap, and enabling
composite+dri is resulting in screen corruption even with 8.38.6. Then how
are you guys running it without XGL?

Karthik

Using Compiz in KDE
I have had a rather hard time enabling Compiz on my Dell laptop, as it
has an ATI X1400 video card. I found a tutorial which helped me
configure Compiz in Gnome, but I'm not about to switch to Gnome. I
hope that someone here can help me translate the scripts used in the
tutorial to start KDE instead of Gnome. I myself have been unable to
do so, after a good day googling the subject.

Xgl/Compiz - Kernel, ATI, Console, and Multihead problems still unresolved
I've been avidly updating mesa, xgl, and compiz, every week (from the
portage-xgl overlay) hoping to solve some of these problems:
* Using ati-drivers-8.29.6 xgl crashes complaining about lacking dri, so
i'm using 8.27.10.
* Using 2.6.18 kernels, the ati-drivers-8.27.10 don't compile when
building the drm module.
* My laptop automatically switchs to vt1 when init services fail

g-w-d.c -> my head spins
Greetings everybody!
I started looking more thoroughly at gnome-window-decorator.c and now
my head spins and "hurts" and believe that I'm not going to achieve
anything serious in terms of tweakable shadows anytime soon. It's far
more difficult than I expected. While I (believe) to understand now the
shadows are drawn, I currently don't get why there are 12 shadow-quads
