Question: traffic shaping (tc-htb)
Hello *! My trafficshaping (tc-htb) drops packets very early, at least i suspect this. It drops about 30% fo the packets. The traffic-generating appication is running locally on the shaping host. I think i can lower this rate by increasing the packet-buffer, because the locally application will slow down with increasing buffer (tcp/ip). But i canĀ“t find any options for that, i cycled the manual

kernel configuration and tc commands for traffic shaping
Hi, I wished to shape the traffic that cross my ppp0 interface so I asked around and google''d a bit and I headed in the LARTC HOWTO. As stated in the early in the text, as the title implies, that is an "Advanced" HOWTO and while by no means rocket science, some prior knowledge is assumed. Unfortunately I found myself lost very soon and I''m writing here in hope

Testing if tc works as configured and shaping rtp traffic
Hi, I have implemented qos at my gateway, mostly for speeding up dns and [video, voice] chat traffic and to slow down p2p traffic. It seems every thing is working properly, as by browsing speed has been improved. But I want to test it by sending various traffic and to see through which qdisc the traffic flows, so that i can be certain that it is working the way I want it to work. The rules

tc doesn''t shape correct
Hi All, I''m configuring my natting-firewall to do some tc shaping. Some traffic has to be shaped on 30mbit, some on 10mbit all the others are unlimited. The configuring and filtering works correctly. The traffic that is shaped at 30mbit is correct, but the traffic that is shapped at 10mbit only gets to 100KB/sec. It is on a device configured with bonding (both in and out interface).

cpu power needed for shaping
Hello, My company recently upgraded our internet connection and I need to set up shaping. I was wondering , what are the CPU and RAM requirements for shaping 768/768 DSL line ? I have a few old P III''s (450 MHz, 256 RAM) and some VIA Eden (533 MHz, 512 RAM) boxes lying around. Which one would be most appropriate ? That box would be a shaping only box, and all internet traffic would go

general shaping rules
Hi, i dont fully understand this sentence, could someone be so kind to expleain me it? Any router performing a shaping function should be the bottleneck on the link, and should be shaping slightly below the maximum available link bandwidth. This prevents queues from forming in other routers, affording maximum control of packet latency/deferral to the shaping device.

traffic shaping , where?
Hi I would want to use the patch for squid released by patrick mcHardy, but it requires that squid is located on the same machine that does traffic shaping. My configuration is different: i have the screening HDSL router directly connected to a multi-ethernet firewall and the proxy located on a DMZ box. i would want the firewall doing traffic shaping. Egress shaping recommendations (based on source ip)
I''m trying to set up customer egress shaping on concentrator that customers connect to using pptp (which uses pppd). This means customers each have a pppXXX interface when they connect. It''s easy to shape their "down" speed this way, and when they disconnect the interface is gone and thus the shaping rules automatically go away as well. However, shaping their upload

Shaping the sum of in/out traffic (IMQ?)
Hello, does anyone have a working solution for the shaping both incoming and outgoing traffic in such way, that for a given class the sum of incoming and outgoing traffic is specified? My ISP does the same thing, it gives me just a line of a defined rate, no matter the traffic direction (i.e. here is the line, the clock speed is 1024kbps, do what you want). I''m a litte bit familiar

Port numbers for traffic shaping
Hello All, I'm not certain that I have my firewall setup to perform traffic shaping correctly for *. I'm using a m0n0wall running on a Soekris 4501 platform. I have traffic shaping set to provide IAX port 4569 with priority outbound access from LAN to WAN. All other outbound access is lower priority. This should in theory accomodate my ADSL connection which is 1.5 Mbps inbound but only

traffic shaping with NAT: IFB as IMQ replacement?
Hello, Sorry for the many Ccs, but I hope to reach all parties involved. I want to do traffic shaping with NAT and I wanted to do it with IFB instead of IMQ [1]. I tried a lot of things but now I am stuck (and maybe confused). The setup: eth0 eth1 WAN/(Internet) <-> Linux Router <-> LAN Linux router: - does NAT for the LANs - runs local processes
