Strange smbclient -L behaviour across WAN link
Hello folks,
I hope somebody here can help shed light on this peculiar behaviour of
smbclient. When we execute:
smbclient -L <host>
and the host is across a VPN link traversing a WAN (DSL) link we get the
following:
1. <host> is Windows 98SE: OK, smbclient completes
2. <host> is Windows XP or Samba 3.x: smbclient is able to retrieve the
share list but hangs trying to get

PDC and BDC across WAN
We have several locations seperated by WAN links.
There is one PDC in the central office, and a BDC at each other site.
The PDC has a WINS server, all other servers and stations are configured
to query this server (hybrid mode - WINS first, then broadcast.)
Here is my problem: When one of the BDCs is disconnected from the
network, all of the sites suffer problems (ie., Windows logins slow down

making a traffic shaper for wireless users
Hello all,
Im new using tc, ive been reading the howto at least 2 or 3 times, but there''s a
lot information to aquire all of it quickly.
I''ve installed a linux box as firewall for a wireless Network in a hotel, this
box is a radius for the access points and it uses iptables to redirect and
permit/deny the customers to use the net. So it uses iptables to count the bytes

Traffic shaping with Powerboost
For those of you in the US using Comcast as your ISP, you''ll know that
they now have a feature called Powerboost available in the regions they
serve. Basically, it allows people to have higher-than-rated throughput
for the first few minutes of data transfer. After those few minutes,
they''re supposed to throttle back down to what their rated line speed
is.
I''m having

Samba across WAN link
Hello All,
We have 2 Samba servers in our domain at our site. Server A) is a Primary
Domain Controller that everyone logs into and Server B) just has drives
shared on it. We have another site with a Server C) running MARS NWE we are
connected to via a 256k WAN link. If we were to run Samba on this Server C)
and set it up like Server B) i.e. Have all 3 servers in the same domain all

[Fwd: Re: RED/GRED implementation for InBound Traffic Control (from ISP)]
Sorry all, this is the missing email that I referred to previously. I
inadvertently sent it only to the original poster rather than the list.
Sorry for the wasted b/w for those who don''t care...

how is Samba 3.x advertising itself to Windows clients across LAN, WAN ?
We recently installed Samba 3.x server on Linux system (RHEL 3.0, using stock RH samba packages).
We are observing following messages in logs:
lib/access.c:check_access(328)
and access is denied. I know why we get access denied: we have restricted "hosts allow =" setting.
My question is: why are we getting connection requests in first place? I think something is advertising this

(Newbie) Trying to get name resolution functional across the WAN
Hello all,
Sorry if this is not new for you, certainly it is for me.
I've setup Samba 2.2.3a on Redhat 7.3, right off the distribution's RPMs.
Somehow I managed to get it working, as seen from the local LAN where the
server sits, at building A. Problem is, all of my users are in building B,
10 miles across the city from the server room. This is a corporate
environment, mainly Windows and

How to do network emulation on incoming traffic?
I''m trying to simulate a satellite link to a Linux server to test
application performance. I haven''t used any of the tc stuff before,
but I blandly assured people it would be "easy" to set up a simulated
long thin pipe on a spare network interface.
However, now that I''m exploring, it''s proving quite difficult.
Let me start with the general question

Help regarding TBF and CBQ
Hello
Please give advice in selecting suitable QoS Solution for our device. It
contains one WAN port and a LAN port(4 port switch). The WAN will be
connected to an ADSL modem(so we don`t know the bandwidth in advance for the
WAN and depends on the ADSL connection taken). We need to give highest
priority to the Voice and control the WAN bandwidth to 2Mbps. I tried with
the TBF by giving 500kbps

wan hdlc_ppp and IPv6
Hi list,
I can successfully build the driver modules; hdlc, dlci, syncppp, and lmc
from the 2.6.18-128.1.14 kernel source rpm, and have managed to
create a 'wan kmod' rpm. It all works fine for IPv4, but now I need
IPv6 for ppp connections, which doesn't work for me.
I think I'll need to back port Krzysztof Halasa's 'ppp for generic hdlc'
patches to the

Multiple WAN + Multiple LAN + linux-igd
Hi, I''m implementing a linux router with this characteristics:
- Multiple adsl with each public ip''s
- Multiple LAN ethernets (in a bridge).
- Linux IGD
I have successfully implemented de 2 first steps, the adsl balanced fine
(multipath routing), and the clients bridge fine.
My problem is how to use that with linux-igd.
My LAN bridge has STP and is implemented for

connect a LAN server to a WAN server as a sip client
hello
I have a asterisk server on WAN, and one server on LAN. And now there are
some users on the LAN server. Users on the LAN server need to make phone
calls to PSTN through the WAN server.
Now on WAN server, there is a user account for the LAN server to register,
and it's an account with multiple ports.(So more than one users on the LAN
server can make phone calls through the WAN server at
