TBF settings
I presently use TBF with this syntax:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:100 tbf buffer=15000/8 LIMIT=30000 MTU=1500
parent class is a cbq with rate=128Kbit
when I want to add PEAK, I get always RTNETLINK error: Invalid argument. Maybe be I don''t understand this parameter. What I know about it, it''s that it can control short-term burst traffic, and it''s what I need to do.

tbf token help
Hi all!
I just started to experiment with bandwidth management using tbf.
I have the folowing problems with token understanding:
1) What unit is token? Is "1 token = 1 byte" ?
If this is so, then with rate=0.5mbit and HZ=100 the bucket gets filled
with 0,64kb (655 tokens) every 10ms?
2) How much tokens are used for one packet (1500)?
3) And token unrelated question. Does

iproute question
Hello all,
My company is sharing it''s internet access with a neighbor and the neighbor
in question was eating our bandwidth (both in upload and download) most of
the time. I finally set up a linux router to limit the incoming/outgoing
bandwidth to his network by adding a tbf on eth0 interface and eth1 interface
of the router (neighbor is behind eth1 and we are in-between him and the

SLA/Shaping Question
Hi, I have a basic router that is shaping traffic, and it seems to be
working at the moment.
We have a 100Mbit connection to the internet, however we get charged for
each mbit that we use and so have to shape/limit the traffic to avoid
huge bills and my boss getting cross!!
We have a /29 subnets set up as follows:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 0.8Mbit latency 50ms burst 10k
tc qdisc add

PRIO and TBF is much better than HTB??
Hello mailing list,
i stand bevor a mystery and cannot explain it J. I want to do shaping and
prioritization and I have done these following configurations and
simulations. I can´t explain, that the combination of PRIO and TBF is much
better than the HTB (with the prio parameter) alone or in combination with
the SFQ.
Here are my example configurations: 2 Traffic Classes http (80 = 0x50) and

Hi Everyone..
I started using Tc and iam Newbie..
Iam trying to use simple TBF to drop the excessive
traffic than the rate.
*******
Scenario:
*******
SRC 1,SRC 2 are sending 5MB traffic each to DEST.
I have implemented TBF qdisc at
Eth0 0f R1
Eth0 of R2
Eth0 & Eth1 of R3
Eth0 0f R4.
the TBF applied is
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 1mbit burst 5kb

Ideas...
Hello,
My company runs several Internet Cafes in Mexico, where bandwith is
limited and very costly. We use Linux to do NAT and firewall stuff and at
each location we
have about 30-40 stations. I''d like to know if anyone out there has any
suggestions about how to use CBQ to limit the bandwith at each station.
We only have a 128k circuit. The problem I am having is that since I have

what''s the meaning of xchg()?
lartc-request,hello!
I find a line in tbf_change() in sch_tbf.c: ptab = xchg(&q->P_tab, ptab);
Can I consider that the pointers are exchanged between q->P_tab and ptab? as following:
prev=q->R_tab;
q->R_tab = rtab;
rtab = prev;
Is my understanding righ?

Newb question: tc shedulers on 2 interfaces
Hi all! I''m new to this list, and hope for some clarity in this matter:
I have a home-gateway with linux-2.6.9 and iproute2 (ver:2.6.9). My
following tc syntaxes.
# eth0 internet scheduleing are:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 20
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 512kbit burst 6k

QoS on a bridge+NAT
I have a setup where I have three NIC in a Debian box. I have eth1
conected to internet and eth0 NAT''ed to 192.168.1.1. eth1 and eth2 are
bridged together, given ip 192.168.122.2.
What I want to achieve is to perform traffic shaping on the bridge as
well as prioritizing the traffic from eth0 very low. (This is from
trental flat ...) However it seems that I am unable to perform thhe

Configuring a QoS Box + Cliente Bandwidth Control
Hello all,
I am trying to configure a linux box to make some QoS into my
netowork and, at the same box, control my clients bandwidth. I have this
classes created:

DL01="eth2" # lan clientes

Help regarding TBF and CBQ
Hello
Please give advice in selecting suitable QoS Solution for our device. It
contains one WAN port and a LAN port(4 port switch). The WAN will be
connected to an ADSL modem(so we don`t know the bandwidth in advance for the
WAN and depends on the ADSL connection taken). We need to give highest
priority to the Voice and control the WAN bandwidth to 2Mbps. I tried with
the TBF by giving 500kbps

Squid-qos Patch Trouble

mode (i.e. web servers are behind the squid, and all www records point to
the squid IP) and i want to implement some sort of bandwidth management
so, for example, any given hosted website/server won''t eat more than let''s
say 1Mbit of upstream bandwidth, i have recompiled squid using Patrick

QoS - Ping problem
Hello all,
I have set my QoS solution and now I am facing a little problem...
When I ping to my server it has some lost packages:
Estatísticas do Ping para 172.30.0.1:
Pacotes: SENDED = 1029, RETURNED = 880, LOST = 149 (14% de perda),
Aproximar um número redondo de vezes em milissegundos:
Mínimo = 0ms, Máximo = 686ms, Média = 105ms
If I disable my QoS ping stats to be ok. I even have

QoS doubt about network machine

I am with a doubt about QoS solution... I have a 4 Mbit backbone
coming from the telco I use... This is the link I serve to my clients,
so I make this classes:

About the cbq.init. Four machines which traffic to limit in same LAN.
Is the samething if I put limiting rules to four different files or all to

WEIGHT=6Kbit

RULE=192.168.0.5
RULE=192.168.0.6
RULE=192.168.0.7
RULE=192.168.0.8
OR four equal files with different IPs, Ids and no PARENT rule?
What style of ID numbering you use if

Incoming trafic shaping (depending on src IP)
Hi there,
i''m trying to shape incoming trafic on my linux box.
I want it to depend on the source IP adress of the packets (in fact, i got
a VPN on an ADSL link and wanted to get at least/max 64Kbit/s for the VPN)
So i tried this :
tc qdisc add dev ppp0 root handle 1:0 cbq bandwidth 512Kbit avpkt 1000 cell 8
tc class add dev ppp0 parent 1:0 classid 1:1 cbq bandwidth 512Kbit rate

tc/htb QoS script
hello folks,
this is my first post to that list. so I hope I am not completely OT
here :-)
reading the (excellent!) lartc and then writing my own qos-script I have
still some open questions which I will try to formulate now:
- "Now we can optionally attach queuing disciplines to the leaf classes.
If none is specified the default is pfifo." - I can''t find info about
Pfifo.
