[PATCH] build: Choose a virtual directory for the daemon which is not a symlink.
From: "Richard W.M. Jones" <rjones at redhat.com> Check /sbin, /usr/sbin, /bin and /usr/bin to ensure that neither the directory nor the parent (eg. /usr) is a symlink, and use this directory for the virtual directory used to store guestfsd in the appliance. --- appliance/Makefile.am | 9 +++++---- configure.ac | 20 ++++++++++++++++++++ 2 files changed, 25

[REPOST] guestfsd core capture, and virt-rescue clean shutdown
This is a repost of a previously posted set. It's been updated following review comments. [PATCH 1/4] Add a core_pattern debug command Added missing return statements. [PATCH 2/4] Call sync after guestfsd exits Remove redundant sleep 1; sync [PATCH 3/4] Shut down the appliance cleanly [PATCH 4/4] Ignore launch() error in virt-rescue These were previously 2 patches. They are otherwise

Generate coredumps of the guestfs appliance
[PATCH 1/3] Add a core_pattern debug command The first patch is just a rework of Rich's earlier core dump patch. It turns it into a debug subcommand so it can be called at any time. This also has the advantage of explicitly labelling an extremely untidy API as debug. [PATCH 2/3] Call sync after guestfsd exits The second patch seems to be required for cores to be dumped reliably. I was able to

building a supermin appliance with febootstrap...
Rich, So, I tried to build the simple supermin app. from your blog. I can confirm that I did get to the shell when I invoked qemu-kvm. I used the standard qemu-kvm cmdline (but appended a serial console). This boots fine. ######################################################## [root at moon appliance-test]# qemu-kvm -kernel kernel -append "console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200" -initrd

Re: [Error] guestfsd: /usr/lib/libaugeas.so.0: version `AUGEAS_0.16.0' not found (required by guestfsd)
Goodmornin, Since I am running ubuntu I did " nm -D /usr/lib64/libaugeas.so.0 | grep AUGEAS " and I didn't find "AUGEAS_0.16.0" , but I got this instead : 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.1.0 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.10.0 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.11.0 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.12.0 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.14.0 0000000000000000 A AUGEAS_0.15.0 0000000000000000 A

Debugging nested KVM guest (L2) booting with libguestfs/gdb
Heya, With latest Fedora Rawhide Kernel, I see a nested KVM guest hanging at boot (not unusual). Rich once suggested this[1] to try to attach gdb to the nested L2 guest to find out where_ it's stuck, tonight I set out to try it out (with KVM & TCG). Below is all what I tried. In guest hypervisor (L1): $ git clone git://github.com/libguestfs/libguestfs.git $ git log | head -1

[PATCH] daemon: Remove custom Augeas lenses.
Don't carry around Augeas lenses. It is fragile, since if the lens is added to upstream Augeas but the version number has not changed, then Augeas won't parse the target file at all. This specifically causes password adjustments to fail in RHEL 7.1. In future, if we need an Augeas lens, it must be added to Augeas, either upstream or as a downstream patch carried around by distros. ---

Improving supermin appliance startup time (lkvm/qboot)
Hi, I remembered reading about Intel Clear Containers [1], and Hyper/Qboot [2] that support startup times measured in the hundreds of miliseconds range. On an AMD FX(tm)-8350 'guestfish -a /dev/null run' takes ~4s when run the 2nd/3rd time: real 0m4.152s user 0m2.120s sys 0m0.564s Are there any plans on applying these improvements to the supermin appliance? I did some quick tests on
