/etc/X11/xorg.conf question
If I use "system-config-display" or "system-config-display --reconfig" although I get a message that I need to log out of GNOME, to have the new file written, for new Display Resolution, logging out or restarting the box does not result in the new settings for the Display taking hold. Sometimes, the number of colors is updated, but *never* the Resolution. Below is my xorg.conf

Centos 5, X dies, I cry
I just installed Centos 5 for my notebook (HP compaq nc4010) on a separate drive (than this one that has Centos 4.5). When I first booted after all the setup, X did not start. hmm. Rebooted, and X came up fine. I did a bunch of customizing and upgraded the kernel Rebooted, X did not start. Rebooted X started fine. I checked some things out then tried the Suspend feature. Not

nsd-4.0.0b5(and rc2) and changing zone from master to slave ?
Hi, I'm doing some quick tests with nsd-4.0.0b5 and (rc2). And found something strange when changing (nsd-control reconfig) one zone from: zone: name: 10.in-addr.arpa zonefile: /zones/empty.zone to zone: name: 10.in-addr.arpa request-xfr: 192.168.122.12 NOKEY allow-notify: 192.168.122.12 NOKEY zonefile: /zones/slave/10.rev and doing nsd-control reconfig. KStars on CentOS 4.4?
Is there an RPM for this? I think it's in the kdeedu package on the FC6 DVD. My wife is an amateur astronomer and she uses this excellent program. If upstream isn't including it, can I get it and not break my CentOS 4.4 system? (Also, I'd like to migrate her and my daughter to CentOS). TIA, Lanny

Automount configuration problem
I have a simple automount configuration problem. I've done two similar, clean, Custom installations of CentOS 5.0, on two similar, but not identical boxes. On my box, automount is working perfectly. On my daughter's box, it's not working. If I put the FC6 DVD into the drive in my box, I can see the contents of the DVD, without any problem. If I cat /etc/mtab in my box, I see this line:

Workaround for bind9 reload bug : samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone
Hi samba team ! I'm face with a new problem on a new Samba PDC install (Debian 9). I don't know why, but systemd run multiples "rndc reconfig" commands during the init script. So the bind9 log file show : -> A successful start -> A failed reconfig (samba_dlz Ignoring duplicate zone) at each boot/reboot. So I need to restart bind9 each time manually. I created a wrapper

Visual Fox Pro 6 APP and Wine & Reggresion
Hello, i'm working in software development company, and we have a custom made software in VFP 6, as we're thinking on replacing all our win9x boxes to linux (since we got rid of those hard-to-manage-and-prone-to-error nt boxes) since we mostly use this app for everything, we tried to run it in Linux using wine. i downloaded the latest wine release, the codeweavers release and a CVS one,

OT: Suggestions for database for physicians patient records?
This is very OT. If list readers can point me in the right direction, to other mailing lists, or web sites for recommended databases, that will be much appreciated! My wife's doctor wants to move records, for approximately 6000 patients (over a 12 year period), from paper (18th century) to a database (20th century). The data entry will be a PITA, for his secretaries, regardless of what

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the

OT: Video Surveillance SW on CentOS
I suggested to our Homeowners Association that we begin a Private Forum (phpBB) and web site. That suggestion has been well received and we will proceed with that. Now, I have become involved in a much more complex and important project, which is Video Surveillance, for the entrance to our subdivision. I Googled and found two (2) things for Linux that seem to be OK: (a) ZoneMinder
