rsync mirror solution: how to prevent accidental mirror deletion
I had a recent disaster scenario with rsync. I was wondering if there were any suggestions to guard against in the future: I used to maintain "mirror" backups of the /home dir on our production_server using rsync to a backup_server. The primary server had a rsyncd daemon running and the backup_server had this line in the crontab: 10 01 * * * rsync -av --delete root at

Configuration problem on older app upgraded to 1.0
Hello, everyone. I have an application that began on a much earlier version of rails, and has been upgraded to 1.0. Somewhere along the line, tests got broken. The first thing I noticed, upon looking into the cause, is that my test database was not being cloned correctly from development. So, I tried to run the tasks by hand: $ rake clone_schema_to_test (in /Users/jkh/Development/assetstream)

Modules from a newer kernel with older kernel?
Is it possible to use driver modules from Fedora 7 with CentOS 5? That is to say, modules from a kernel version 2.6.21 with a kernel version 2.6.18. I would like to try libata.ko, ata_piix.ko and some other with the kernel I am using with CentOS 5. Will it be safe? Thank you!

rsync -u gets the older symlinks over the newer one
Hi, I am facing with the bug followed: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4531 rsync will always get the older symlink of the other side overwrite the newer one on the local side. Wayne has suggested to use unison, however it is a non-developing old project that I have suspect to use. What can you suggest me for ? My main aim is to syncronize file, directories, links for 2 nodes. --

Unfortunately, by the way X works, some of these

Correct. But in select operations, you are seeing this. That could be an application-specific setting, including the Window Manager which includes a number

Yep, it's the first of a new series (7000 -- sounds like it'll support NV5x out-of-the-box), so that's expected. > Today there is a new driver (1.0-7664) which has fixed lots of issues > for us,

Older directory overwrites newer file with -u flag
If I remove a directory 'foo' and create a file foo, and then do a resync from a remote server with the -u flag, the file will be replaced by the directory, even though the file is newer than the directory. older distro have newer package in base repo
Just wondering why in EL5's base repo the latest supported mysql package is 5.5 and in EL6's base repo it is 5.1? Seems strange to me. (it is clear that the SCL of EL6 has version 5.5 but that implies a different update policy). -- LF

[PATCH] Fits: tool to parse stream
Simple tool to parse a fits-stream from stdout. Signed-off-by: Arne Jansen <sensille@gmx.net> --- The idea of the btrfs send stream format was to generate it in a way that it is easy to receive on different platforms. Thus the proposed name FITS, for Filesystem Incremental Backup Stream. We should also build the tools to receive the stream on different platforms. As a place to collect

Yum update wants to overwrite newer app package
This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway (I do that - you all know... :-). Due to a bug I found in OOo 2.0, I moved to using OOo 2.3, back when I was still running CentOS 5.0. Now that I have upgraded to 5.1, yum wants to update my OOo from 2.3 BACK to 2.0. Is it possible to get yum to recognize that 2.3 is newer than 2.0, or should I just exclude OOo from the updates? Thanks.

[RFC] big fat transaction ioctl
Hi all, This is an alternative approach to atomic user transactions for btrfs. The old start/end ioctls suffer from some basic limitations, namely - We can''t properly reserve space ahead of time to avoid ENOSPC part way through the transaction, and - The process may die (seg fault, SIGKILL) part way through the transaction. Currently when that happens the partial transaction will

Accidental new top-level monorepo directory
https://reviews.llvm.org/rL353906 introduced (presumably accidentally) the "b" top-level directory to the monorepo. The files should be moved to their proper location, but I'm also wondering if there's any way to prevent accidental top-level additions like this. Thanks, Shoaib -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Accidental samba_dnsupdate success after NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Greetings, The process to join a new samba 4.6 DC to an existing samba 4.1 DC repeatedly caused: samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names to fail on the new DC with: Failed to connect host x.x.x.x on port 49152 - NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED Noted: both samba versions are obsolete and will be updated post haste. Regardless, samba_dnsupdate was accidentally invoked on the new DC while the
