CompComm has a real name!
Our previous attempts to select a project name for CompComm have not gone
well. We tried a poll but the names in the poll were not pre-qualified to
determine if they were usable and the ?winning? name was also a strongly
disliked name. Kristian and I each proposed a plan to select a name, but that
effort got sidetracked by a massive flame war on the mailing list.

Looking for input
Hey All,
First off, congratulations to David and the others who worked on the 0.3.4
release and Happy Thanksgiving!
There's been some discussion in the forum on the design and functionality of
the compiz website and I'd like to get the opinion of David and any others
who have an interest in this topic.
My first question is to David. You indicated that you were interested in

Compiz and Beryl are Reuniting
After several weeks of discussion the leaders of Compiz and Beryl have agreed
that the two communities shall reunite. This decision is supported by both
David and Quinn and represents the majority decision of the administrators
and developers in each community. At this early stage not a lot has been
decided, but these are the main points of the agreement:
- As had previously been decided,

Sub_scribe and a question
Dear all,
I am trying to get an estimate of the intercept for a linear model. In
this case, I know the slope of the model, can anyone tell me how to
constrain the formula in lm() so that it only estimates the intercept
not the slope? Many thanks in advance,
Sincerely,

Drupal vs. Ruby on Rails
Hello all,
Maybe the $subj is a little bit weird (i.e. apples vs oranges) but it is
a situation i am facing at the moment: We are developing a small web
site which will be mostly a CMS (more or less) and my colleagues is
arguing for drupal, and i am for RoR.
Maybe i can formulate the question in a different way: when to use a CMS
(not necessarily drupal but e.g. Radiant CMS) and when to use Ruby

Web site development and security
Hello all,
I'm looking at building a website and extranet on my CentOS server for my
home business. I use PHP for my intranet but I hear PHP is a big security
sieve. Can anybody recommend good books on website security and
development? Which procedural language should I use to do this?
I apologize and realize this may not be the right site for this but it seems
there are already a

Newbie Question
Hello,
(This is a newbie question. I skimmed though the mailing list archive to try
to find the answer, but didn't find anything. Maybe I'm just not looking for
the right thing.)
Are there any tools that could be used to convert a series of frames (stored
as JPEG's or something), for a movies, into a Theora file?
TIA
See ya

~/.ssh/config permissions
Hi,
Working with apache-sshd I found that it forces ~/.ssh/config to be
owned by user without group/others permissions. It failed for me
within my valid openssh environment.
Within sources (readconf.c::read_config_file), I found that openssh
only enforces ownership by user and not group/others write.
When I opened an issue, I was referred to this[1] wiki page (not sure
who maintain it) claiming

A LaTeX question -- Hope people won't mind
Hello All,
Hope people won't mind my posting a LaTeX question here. I know a lot of people who use R are also using LaTeX. I'm in a bit of a rush to complete a document and am having trouble with one aspect of the formatting.
I'm creating a list of tables using:
\listoftables
I also have some table captions that contain the number of patients in an anlysis like:

k-means cluster and plot labels
Hi,
For my data, I followed the example of http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Data_Mining_Algorithms_In_R/Clustering/K-Means#Execution and got some very nice results. Despite the fact, that I want to achieve a bit more by clustering my data (stratification beyond case-control), the actual data-frame contains a column labeled "C" which holds a case-control indicator (here either "Z"

@cert-authority for hostbased auth - sans shosts?

I'm not familiar with the use of .rhosts/.shosts, but I don't think those are needed at all with a machine or per-user known_hosts file/files

glpk package missing?
I have a piece of code (from Xie et al. 2009 Autophagy 5:217) that runs
in R and requires the glpk package. A year or so ago, I was able to
download and install the glpk package directly from insider the R
program (for Windows), and everything worked fine. Now I have installed
R for Windows on a new computer, and I cannot find the glpk package on
the list of available packages on my local

Page width figures in Latex
bRotheRs & sisteRs,
I am once again attempting to learn enough Latex voodoo to get something
done, and failing comically. The document "RJAuthorguide.pdf"
mentions that one can get page width figures through the use of the
"figure*" or "table* environments, but despite considerable searching
through the mail archives and reading Frank Harrell's discussion of
