Validation with has_many
I have two problems. I have a comment that has_many uploads. Before saving the comment, I want to be sure that the upload(s) has passed validation, but I also need to validate in other ways. For example, I do not want to save the comment if there is no comment or upload. Or, I do not want to save the comment if the image has been uploaded previously (comparing md5s with past upload md5s

has_many association with autosave issues
I''d like to use autosave => true for an association for its added benefits: the parent doesn''t save unless the children saves. However, it seems to skip validations when saving the children. And this seems to be the case since the beginning of time... Anyone know why? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails:

Unwanted call to validates_associated
In my schema, a question has_many :answers. When the validations are run on a question, and one of the answers is not valid, then i get "Answers is not valid" coming out of errors.full_messages. I don''t want this, i''m already testing the validity of the answers and this is an ugly and uninformative error message. It looks like it''s the message i would get

has_many and validates_associated
By trial and error I seem to arrive to the conclusion that 1. Validation recurses through has_many by default and a root save! call raises an excepcion if some child no matter how nested is fails validation 2. Validation does not recurse through has_one by default and you can change this with validates_associated, in which case exceptions behave like above

Dead horse: validates_associated
Regarding validates_associated... Let''s say I have: article belongs_to author But for whatever reason, I want an article to also be written anonymously and therefore not require an author. Then I have: Article: belongs_to :author validates_associated :author But I DON''T have validates_presence_of. What I want to do is validate that an author is valid --if it is

validates_associated ... doesn't
Hi, I think I''m missing some fundamental information here so hopefully someone can help me. I have a model Club which has many members, members of course belong to a Club. I''d like to ensure that when a members is saved (saved/created/updated) only valid club_id''s are accepted. I have a Club model (simplified) like this: class Club < ActiveRecord::Base

I''m using: JRuby 1.1 rails-2.0.2 activerecord-2.0.2 activerecord-jdbc-adapter-0.8.2 My tables in MySQL: CREATE TABLE area_codes ( id INT UNSIGNED auto_increment primary key ... ); CREATE TABLE markets ( id INT UNSIGNED auto_increment primary key, ... ); CREATE TABLE

validates_associated bug?
i seem to be experiencing a bug where rails tells me that my organization object''s associated credit card is invalid (activerecord validation-wise invalid), when i know it to be valid. this happens only if i tell the organization to validate_associated :credit_card. i know the associated credit card is valid, because a) that credit_card object itself throws no validation errors, and b)

add_multiple_associated_save_callbacks and validates_associated conflict?
Perhaps I''m misunderstanding what''s happening here, but I''m having a problem with not being able to disable the validation of an associated collection if that collection contains a new record. Example... class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :email_addresses validates_associated :email_addresses, :if => Proc.new { false } end p = Person.new

Ensuring that foreign key is valid
I am trying to set up a validation in a model to ensure that a record can''t be saved unless the foreign key it belongs_to is a valid record. My model says: class Admin < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :user_id validates_numericality_of :user_id validates_uniqueness_of :user_id validates_associated :user belongs_to :user end but I can still create an admin

inverse_of breaks for unsaved child associations during save of parent
I''m willing to write a patch for this issue: https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/8893 But want to confirm that the new behavior makes sense before I make the effort. Essentially if you have an unsaved parent and child, and the parent''s association to the child has an inverse_of declared on it. When the parent gets saved, it updates the foreign key on the child, and this

bad move? - complex form with *many* observe_field's
I have a pretty complex form with many text fields and a number of selects. We let the user add multiple types of associated objects to the parent object and to edit the values for those associated objs, so the form can have something like the following number of fields on the page: 9 text fields + 3 selects + a*(1 text + 1 select) + b*(1 text + 1 select) + c*(1 text + 1 select) + d*(1 text +

Windows editor suggestions - autosave
I am looking for advice on an editor to use with R (windows) that has an autosave feature. I typically write scripts using the RGui (and tried TinnR yesterday) but I am having continuing problems with BSODs (non R related) and have in the past have had issues with R crashes and would really like a system that does not require me to remember to hit the save button on my script every 10 minutes so
