Capybara with redirect
I am having an issue where a feature works fine but the corresponding
test fails, and I can''t understand why.
I created a mock application to demonstrate the problem.
https://github.com/assafshomer/clear_button
All it does is show an input form with a clear button. The clearing
happens by redirecting back to the same form. It does clear it when you
run the app, but the test for it

RSpec, shoulda-matchers and Rails model attributes validations
I was trying out RSpec framework in a project and got stopped doing the unit
test of a model. In particular, doing the test for the associations and the
ActiveRecord validations.
I started writing the validations but my tests didn''t look DRY at all.
Before refactoring the tests checked out and look for other people
solutions.
I found out shoulda-matchers and Shoulda (which if I

controller_spec.rb as well.
it "assigns a newly created plan as @plan" do
post :create, {:plan => valid_attributes}, valid_session
assigns(:plan).should be_a(Plan)

How do I deal with ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed:
Hello all,
I am currently writing model tests in rails 4. I am attempting to add an
error to a reservation object if the total number of reservations for a
given date and time has reached a pre-determined limit.
When my test runs, it is hitting the appropriate code but it is raising the
following error as opposed to just giving me an error in the object that I
can use.

RSpec / Cucumber painfully slow Rails 3 OSX
I am working on my first Rails BDD project with extensive tests since
starting out with Rails a few years ago.
Running RSpec or Cucumber is really slow. I''m using Rails 3 and RSpec
2.
To run one model spec with only 5 tests takes almost 1 minute! When it
finishes it says it took only 0.9 seconds to run the actual test. So
obviously it is loading the environment that takes so long. I just

rspec_on_rails'' spec:doc and dry runs
In rspec_on_rails, the spec:doc task uses --dry-run, which doesn''t
jive well with rspec''s ability to write docs for you.
For example, I use the rspec_expectation_matchers plugin from
spicycode.com (scanned for a name, didn''t find one =), and end up
writing specs like:
it { @ticket.should validate_presence_of(:name) }
Which results in specdocs such as:

Trouble with rspec and FactoryGirl Sequence
I''m following Michael Hartl''s Ruby on Rails 3 Tutorial but I''m using
Rails 3.2.8 and FactoryGirl 4.2.0 and rspec 2.14.1 I''m in chapter 10
trying to generate tests for pagination (using will_paginate 3.2.5 which
works fine in dev)
I can get FactoryGirl to test just fine if I don''t use Sequence but I
can''t seem to figure out the correct syntax

Getting rspec error: Net::SMTPServerBusy: Relay access denied
I''m trying to test registration emails (sent with devise), and I keep
getting the error:
Net::SMTPServerBusy: 454 4.7.1 <model_spec-hcDgGtZH8xNBDgjK7y7TUQ@public.gmane.org>: Relay access denied
I''m running Rails 3.2.11 with Capybara, and I have (temporarily) chopped my
spec_helper.rb and test.rb files down to the bare minimum, still getting
the error above.

Hope this should be simple: I have a User model and a Role model. Factories
for each.
When I create a User using FG, I want to assign a specific role. Cant seem
to figure out how to do this, getting errors like: uninitialized constant
SysadminRole for doing things this way:
Factory.define :user do |u|
u.practice_id { |a| a.association(:practice).id }
u.password ''password1''

Where to find info about seed.rb, db:seed functionality?
There is no any mention about it neither in API nor in Guide. How to use
these features? The only gist with two sentences is in db/seed.rb file.
That''s really not enough.

How about add a method to truncate a long text more smart?
sometimes we need to truncate a long text more smart.
eg:
The Model layer represents your domain model (such as Account, Product,
Person, Post, etc.) and encapsulates the business logic that is specific to
your application. In Rails, database-backed model classes are derived from
ActiveRecord::Base. Active Record allows you to present the data from
database rows as objects and embellish

a better "should have valid associations"
This is pretty much the same as last time around, if you recall.
Thanks to Wilson for converting to the new form. I''ve added a few
lines. Basically, it iterates over your model associations and does
two things.
- First, just try to call the association. Usually fixes speeling
erors or other such silliness.
- Second, try to find a record with an :include on the association.
