Rails3: "rake test" task does not run tests.
Hello all,
I have a spiffy new rails3 app for which I can run tests individually,

Ruby On Rails Salary in the UK? how much?
Hi,
What do you think is a reasonable salary for a ROR programmer in
Manchester, UK?
If you''re working with ROR and in the UK i''d be interested in knowing
your salary :-)
Your opinions would be very valuable to me

Way OT: Anyone know where to get data on relationship between education and salary
I'm sorry for the way OT post, but here goes. I'm an informatics
specialist, and R user. My wife is a secondary school maths teacher.
My wife recently tried to explain to her class the link between
education and potential salary, and I would love to be able to show this
graphically, however, I cannot find any freely available data for this.
Does anyone know of a suitable dataset,

Expectations on Class Methods
Sorry about the non-specific subject. Here''s what I''m trying to do. I
have a method:
DataMapper::Database.setup
That I want to create an expectation on. I wrote:
DataMapper::Database.should_receive(:setup).once.and_return
(connection_hash)
The call to setup is invoked in the "Object" namespace. I.e., it is
setup code, and not in any method or class.
I can see

merbful_authentication
Since there are so many efforts at the moment to port restful_authentication
I figured I''d put a repo up so that it can be a collaborative effort.
You can pick up a copy of the repo at
git clone http://snatcht.com/git/merbful_authentication.git
at the moment the app is in a branch. Not in the master.
get the branch by
git checkout -b remote/initial origin/inital_repo

Catching non-Merb::ControllerExceptions Exceptions
Is there an agreed upon method for handling exceptions thrown by
something outside of Merb? For example, DataMapper now throws a
DataMapper::ObjectNotFoundError when a record isn''t found in the db.
I''d like to catch these exceptions and raise a C:E:NotFound exception
instead, but without having to wrap a lot of code in begin/rescue/end
blocks.
Thanks,
Mike Irwin

Hello R users,
I am relatively new to R and cannot seem to crack a coding problem. I
am working with substance abuse data, and I have a variable called
"primary.drug" which is considered the drug of choice for each
subject. I have just a few missing values on that variable. Instead
of using a multiple imputation method like chained equations, I would
prefer to derive these

Growth rate determination using ANCOVA
I'm a programmer in a biology lab who is starting to use R to automate
some of our statistical analysis of growth rate determination. But I'm
running into some problems as I re-code.
1) Hypotheses concerning Slope similarity/difference:
I'm using R's anova(lm()) methods to analyse a model which looks
like this:
growth.metric ~ time * test.tube
I understand that

Undefined Method Angst After Rails / Ruby / Gem Updates
I have what appears to be a problem accessing methods from within an
application. I can access them from irb, but not from within the
app. In other words:
irb(main):001:0> require ''rubygems''
=> true
irb(main):002:0> require ''haml''
=> true
irb(main):003:0> Haml.respond_to?(''init_rails'')

H323 Disconnects after 15+ minutes
I have posted my problem on the link below, but didn't get any answer. I am hoping someone here can help me with this issue. Here's my problem:
I am using H323 to talk between Asterisk and Avaya IP Office 500. For
some strange reason, when we are talking on a VoIP call, we get
disconnected after 10+ minutes. We have two other Elastix box, but none
of them are getting disconnected. From

Rserve and creating a list of lists
Hello,
I have some code which generates lattice objects. The function
recieves serialized forms of the lattice objects which it then
unserializes and then adds to an ArrayList<REXP>.
REXPRaw rser = new REXPRaw( target ); //target contains the raw
serialized forms of lattice objects
rconn.assign("temp",rser);

Behavior of first_or_create
I just ran across a weird glitch (IMHO) in find_or_create. The arguments passed to it are *not* added to the conditions for the ''first'' part. This is odd, given that it''s intended to replace find_or_create_by_* methods, which *did* use the specified values as conditions.
I''m unsure on whether this behavior is entirely undesirable, but it''s definitely

merb/sequel mutex on or off? proxy_balancer or no?
Just a quick question to those of you using merb and sequel or
datamapper. How do you setup your merb app?
For example:
merb -X off -c 5, then run mod_proxy_balancer or nginx to load balance
between the 5 (or whatever #) of merb nodes?
merb -X off -d, then simply use something like proxypass
merb -c 5, keep the mutex lock and cluster it
haproxy, swiftiply, evented mongrel......

Looking for recommendations for home office setups
Greetings Asterisk Users,
I'm looking for some friendly advice on setting up a asterisk
PBX for our small business. I've played with Asterisk and setup
a soft-phone open323, though even on my ethernet network this
showed very poor performance. Got a phone call through to digium,
but had a difficult time either hearing (low volume) or understanding
(line breaking up). Hoping a hardware
