kickstart problems...
Hi, I am creating CentOS install usb keys and, apart from a few problems, it mostly works... 1. OT: My server HP does not seem to want to boot on it if I set the write protection on. 2. Anaconda tries to fetch the ks.cfg too early... It detects sda, then detects the RAID adapter, then re-detects sda with a "waiting for device to settle before scanning". Anaconda tries to access

LVM and hotswap (USB/iSCSI) devices?
Hi list, I'm having one of those 'I'm stupid' -problems with LVM on CentOS 5.2. I've been working with traditional partitions until now, but I've finally been sold on the theoretical benefits of using LVM, but for now I only have a huge pile of broken filesystems to show for my efforts. My scenario; I attach a disk, either over USB or iSCSI. I create a PV on this

CentOS 7 - Have 2 disks, each with a biosboot partition, can only boot off one of them
Hi all, I used a kickstart script to setup a new machine of mine with RAID 1 (I couldn't get anaconda to create matching partition schemes). So I've now got /dev/sdg1 and /dev/sdh1 as 'bios_grub' (/dev/sd{a-f} are a separate array). 0 root at an-nas02:~# parted /dev/sdg print free Model: ATA ST3000NC000 (scsi) Disk /dev/sdg: 3001GB Sector size (logical/physical):

suggestions for installing CentOS 5 via USB?
I'm having problems installing CentOS via a USB drive. First, I tried using Unetbootin, but with no avail. The 8MB netinstall doesn't work, and the big DVD image doesn't work either. http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html Then I tried this http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-centos-5-live-install-via-windows/ with a CentOS DVD file, and that did not work (just hangs). I tried

ssm vs. lvm: moving physical drives and volume group to another system
When I change /etc/fstab from /dev/mapper/lvol001 to /dev/lvm_pool/lvol001, kernel 3.10.0-514 will boot. Kernel 3.10.0-862 hangs and will not boot. ssm vs. lvm: moving physical drives and volume group to another system
I did the following test: ############################################### 1. Computer with Centos 7.5 installed on hard drive /dev/sda. Added two hard drives to the computer: /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc. Created a new logical volume in RAID-1 using RedHat System Storage Manager: ssm create --fstype xfs -r 1 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /mnt/data Everything works. /dev/lvm_pool/lvol001 is mounted to

replace x86 with x64 system and reuse existing LVM
I want to replace an existing 32bit with a 64bit installation (Centos 5). There's an existing LVM with lots of partitions. Most are used for Xen guests. The system itself uses only one of them plus a separate /boot partition that is not on LVM. What's the best course of action here? Should I do the reinstall with kickstart or better manually and reuse the existing filesystem? As I

can't mount an LVM volume inCentos 5.10
I have a degraded raid array (originally raid-10, now only two drives) that contains an LVM volume. I can see in the appended text that the Xen domains are there but I don't see how to mount them. No doubt this is just ignorance on my part but I wonder if anyone would care to direct me? I want to be able to retrieve dom-0 and one of the dom-Us to do data recovery, the others are of

Kickstart and lvm
I've written some %pre code to grab a few files off a logical volume, if it exits, before the disk gets formatted, but can't get get it to work correctly. Essentially: %pre ... lvm vgscan lvm vgchange -a y ... if [ -d /dev/vol0 ]; then # do stuff fi lvm vgremove -f vol0 The problem is that /dev/vol0 does not exist after lvm vgchange. I added a few debug statements (lvm pvdisplay, lvm

LVM Input/output error
Hi, I recently installed centos for the first time and I like it! Also, I just started working with lvm. The following warnings are genertated whenever I run one of lvm commands on the external usb disk (MyBook by Western Digital). * What could be the source for those messages? * Should I worry about them (writing into the created LV's seems to work)? * If yes, how to fix them? LVM Checksum error when using persistent grants (#linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8)
Hey Roger, I am seeing this weird behavior when using #linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8 tree. Basically I can do ''pvscan'' on xvd* disk and quite often I get checksum errors: # pvscan /dev/xvdf PV /dev/xvdf2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [18.88 GiB / 0 free] PV /dev/dm-14 VG vg_x86_64-pvhvm lvm2 [4.00 GiB / 68.00 MiB free] PV /dev/dm-12 VG vg_i386-pvhvm lvm2
