[rfc idle thought] exclude pattern left anchor
A thought has been nagging me for a bit now so i'll run it
up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes.
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding the use
of the leading slash as a top of tree anchor for exclude
patterns. The manpage seems clear enough to me but somehow
it doesn't seem to get through.
What if we allowed a leading circumflex (^) to serve the
same function. We

RSARhosts / Hostbased auth and euid=0 requirement
I'm not happy with ssh being setuid root. I know that the long-term goal is
to have a seperate host-key-management process, but that is a ways off.
Until then, I'd like to propose the following:
- Allow ssh to read alternate key files.
This would allow the ssh client to use keyfiles different from the ones
sshd uses. I know that this can be done now by changing the ones sshd uses,

uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Cache (NameError)
Hi
After having updated some GEMS I get `load_missing_constant'':
uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Cache (NameError) on starting
the server of a freshly generated rails project.
Before, I already had Rails 2.3.2 projects succesfully running, now
all of them generate this error.
These are my GEMS:

Save sessions on file system instead of database table?
Hi
Is there a way to save session data on the file system (like in Rails)
instead of a database table?
The reason I''m asking is, that I''m writing a Camping application without
using ActiveRecord (mostly for learning purposes) and I don''t want to
use ActiveRecord just for sessions.
Thanks,
Thomas

rspec, Rails 2.1.0, rubygems, Mac OS X Leopard - rubygems does not recognize latest version
I''m trying to run some specs on my Mac OS/Leopard machine (10.5.5) but
rubygems won''t allow it:
$ spec spec/models/my_spec.rb
Rails requires RubyGems >= 0.9.4 (you have 0.9.3). Please `gem update
--system` and try again.
...but I already have the latest & greatest installed:
$ gem search --local rubygem

as.matrix and one row
Hi All,
I have the following problem:
x = c(1,2)
x
[1] 1 2
as.matrix(x)
[,1]
[1,] 1
[2,] 2
BUT, if I add:
y = c(3,4)
as.matrix(rbind(x,y))
[,1] [,2]
x 1 2
y 3 4
It does not transpose. Since I will need as.matrix() for a list of data
that is in one or more lines, I need as.matrix to behave in a consisten
fashions, so I get
as.matrix(x, whatever)
[,1] [,2]
x 1

Hot Fallover
Hello List:
Recently our shorewall FW server went dead (PS failure) & brought the entire
system down. Luckily we are testing the FW and other servers, so we did not
loose anything. Now we have decided to setup two Shorewall FW servers with a
primary & another fallover FW server.
I have done some research cruised the Internet and found that a product

ANNOUNCE: New development/release practices
As mentioned, I''m making some changes to how I manage development
around releases, since 0.23.2 still had too many bugs but it took me
four months to get a release out. This is obviously unacceptable,
regardless of how good my excuses are. :)
The major change is that I''m always going to maintain a stable
branch, named after the current stable minor release. For

How do I pass form values from POST controller specs?
Hi there
I just started my first Merb app and I''m running into some weird
things in Specs. When I do:
describe "create action" do
it "should create a new project" do
project_params = {:name => ''bekkunin''}
Project.should_receive(:create).with(project_params)
controller, action = post(''/projects'', :project

Problems with rspec 1.1 required inside rake tasks
This is interesting.
The default rspec rake tasks generated by Hoe give you an rspec.rake
file that looks like:

> require ''spec''

> require ''rubygems''
> require ''spec''
> end

So far so good.
