having trouble booting Xen-3.1 on X86_64 Fedora Core 8 install
Hi: Any hints/pointers welcome. I am very new to Xen, I have a AMD "AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+" based system on which I am running X86_64 Fedora Core 8. I have installed Xen-3.1 on it, but I can''t get Xen to boot. It seems unable to find the root volume, the kernel panics and reboots immediately so I can''t capture or write down anything and I

Dell 1950 Perc 6/i with centos 4.5
We are currently running CentOS 4.5 on older Dell Systems. We are upgrading to Dell PowerEdge 1950 with a PERC 6/i raid controller. CentOS 4.5 installation does not see the PERC 6/i controller. Dell and LSI Logic only support RHEL 4U6 and higher and SuSe. I've tried building the boot images with the new driver for installation but kickstart still doesn't see the raid controller.

Supervoice 2.6 comms program (for fax and voice etc) in wine
Has anybody had experience with installing Supervoice (2.6) fax/voice software in wine? I've installed it apparently OK (although I do seem to remember getting some error on installation) - it seems to start to run OK, but with some glitches! Each time, it wants to re-detect and configure the modem - why?! Also, it shows me the messages (fax and voice) which were stored in the modem (USR 56K

Dual boot C7 with Window 10
I have a laptop with windows 10. I went into the Windows disk manager and shrunk the volume to make room for C7. That worked. I also changed the BIOS from secure boot to "both" (secure/legacy) I installed C7, went fine. About the time it was done I realized I never saw anything about "other" boot options (seems I saw that in the past). Anyway sure enough, got done and C7

Need Dual Boot Installation Help
Adding title Windows XP rootnoverify (hd0,1) chainloader +1 to /etc/grub.conf has always worked for me on every dual boot Win2k, XP, 2k3 / linux boxes I have ever built. Install Windows first then install Linux. You do not need a kernel that has NTFS support and you don't have to play with NTLDR. I know that this goes against just about every Dual-Boot HOWTO you will

CentOS 5 Beta Dual Boot Problem
To test CentOS 5, I loaded from DVD adding it to a system at home running Fedora Core 7 T2. Partition Layout is: /dev/hda1 - / for the RH7T2 system /dev/hda2 - /home /dev/hda3 - swap /dev/hda4 - extended /dev/hda5 - / for CentOS 5 The system loaded cleanly and gave me the opportunity to tell grub about the other system. CentOS boots fine. Grub Stage 2 will show me both systems.

Booting C 6.0 from C 5.7
I installed C 6.0 in an empty partition. It functioned. Despite using the usually successful methods of booting into another operating system from C 5.7, I can't get into C 6.0 Tried:- title C6-0 (2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64) rootnoverify (hd0,6) chainloader +1 and root (hd0,6) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64 ro root=UUID=67c62872-0c69-451c-8412-3c218c0d2cb0 rd_NO_LUKS rd_NO_LVM

Installation sequence for 4.2 / 3.6 dual boot
Hello, I have a Dell 1850 with dual Xeon procs and two u320 36Gb drives. I would like to set this up as dual boot system with 4.2 on disk 0 and 3.6 on disk 1. I imagine that I would install 4.2 first and then 3.6. Would I need to remove the other hard drive while installing a given version? Any gotchas? How about setting up GRUB? Anything special or does the install take care of it? Thanks,

Desperate to upgrade from RedHat 9 to CentOS 4.4
I'm desperately trying to upgrade from RedHat 9 to CentOS 4.4, but the one thing that's really causing me problems is migrating from Evolution 1.2.2 (bundled with RedHat 9) to 2.0.2 (bundled with CentOS 4.4. When running Evolution 2.0.2 for the first time, with Evolution 1.2.2 folders and files in evolution folder in same partition, the automatic migration process starts up and seems to

Getting Samba to work in CentOS 4.4
I'm trying to access files on a networked Windows machine from my linux box (CentOS 4.4) using SMBFS mounting but it doesn't work. I've checked the Service Configuration and there's no sign of the smb entry in the list. Do I have to install this additionally and if so how, as I thought it would be installed as part of the standard workstation package? Andy

Battery status indicator in CentOS 4.4
I've got CentOS 4.4 installed on 3 machines - two laptops and a PC. Only one, a HP Omnibook 900, shows the graphical battery status indicator (in the bottom right of the screen), but the other laptop (a new Dell Inspiron 1501) doesn't show it. Furthermore, the command /usr/bin/apm gets the response 'no apm support in kernel' - I've tried yum-updating the kernel and installing

Dual-boot with WinXP, CentOS already installed
Hi all, I'd like to deploy a solution with dual-booting systems where CentOS 5.3 is already installed and WinXP will be installed to a separate disk. I found http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_and_windows_xp_linux_installed_first.htm?page=1 and it seems straight forward enough, although the description is for Ubuntu. The problem as I see it, is that the how-to differs from how
