assert_select_rjs with on a page with "page.select" in it
I''m having a bunch of testing an RJS action. The action updates a DIV if it
exists, but it isn''t always necessarily present on the page so I use a
page.select in the RJS to check if it exists. (Is there a better way to do
that?)
Let''s say we have an RJS page containing:
page.select("some_element_that_may_or_may_not_exist").each do |value|

Is it still possible to use should_have_rjs
Hi
I''ve come back to a Rails project after about a month doing other
work, and there''s a lot of changes. I was on the 0.7 branch before
and I''ve upgraded to RSpec 1.0.5. I used the spec translator, fixed
the cases where it barfed on unusual line contents, and all my model
and controller specs now pass. But I''m getting 53 failures on my view

Functional Testing - page actions
Pretty simple question, I''ve tried to ajaxify some actions and the first
one I did was a delete -
def delete_job
.....
render :update do |page|
page.remove "job_#{id}"
end
....
end
and in my functional test I call this function via post
def test....
post :delete_job, :id => 1
assert_response :success
......
end
after the assert_response, how do I test that the page

Direct I/O support (patches included)
Hi,
Since a --direct-io feature was requested a few times the past decade with
little response and the actual patch is quite trivial, I patched both
v3.0.9 and master branch and included the patches here.
If this functionality is acceptable I don't mind spending the additional
effort to update the documentation, etc.
Beware that the underlying filesystem needs Direct I/O support,

specs for RJS
What''s the current best practice for spec''ing (and stubbing) RJS?
response.should have_rjs(*args, &block) from rspec_on_rails works well
for things that
assert_select_rjs supports. But for other things, like say
page[:elm].add_class_name :class_name, it''s not clear to me the best
way to test for this.
I''d love to be able to do something like

ActiveRecord serialize method not returning YAML array in test environment.
Hello,
I''ve got a problem with deserialization of AR "serialize" method
(http://apidock.com/rails/ActiveRecord/Base/serialize/class) in my
tests.
It just gives me pure String instead of my data Array.
Example:
User > AR::Base
serialize :roles, Array
end
Console:
u = User.new
u.roles = ["admin", "support"]
u.save
# => true
User.first.roles

Code inconsistency between release version and git in rsync-3.0.9
There are huge differences between source files in the version 3.0.9
released as a tar.gz and source files in git. I would assume that the
released version would correspond to the version in git but with 3.0.9
it is not like that. In 3.1.0 the released and git versions are more or
less the same.
So my question is, from what source files was the 3.0.9 version created?
Thank you.

How to save the user_id in a separate column when using ActiveRecord::SessionStore?
Hi!
I''m converting my Rails 3.1 app from cookie sessions to database
sessions.
I''ve added an extra column on the sessions table to save the user_id.
I read the documentation in
http://apidock.com/rails/v3.1.0/ActiveRecord/SessionStore and googled
but can''t seem to find a way to set the session''s user_id that works.
Can someone help?
Thanks

compile samba v3.0.9 vfs-errors
Hello NG,
found a thread with almost my current problem. There wasn't any solution
out there.
Maybe anything has changed?
I want install samba v3.0.9 on an old rh linux v7.1. Currently there's no
chance to
update the core system. But while compiling it breaks with many
"vfs"-errors as shown

Database connection parameters are tied to the filesystem
HI Guys,
I recently tried VERY hard to override the database configuration bassed on
ENV vars or actual API calls. This task is almost next to impossible.
I know that the database.yml file is parsed as ERB but that is sane for
simple ENV replacement if you want to actually change which database
adaptor it is (requires extra config/params) it becomes messy.

How-to spec this helper method?...
Hey gang,
I have this dead-simple method defined in a helper:
def add_category_link(name)
link_to_function name do |page|
page.insert_html :bottom, :categories, :partial =>
''category'', :object => Category.new
end
end
Where, and mostly how, would I spec this? I haven''t been able to find
how to stub the rjs in a helper spec, so

Any plans for a 3.1.0 release(-date)?
Hi
If i'm reading git right(git log v3.0.9..) the development branch that
will eventually result in 3.1.0 is nearly 5 years "in the making".
Personally i'm anticipating the fallocate support, as XFS is great at
preallocateing (fallocating even a several gigabyte big file only takes
milliseconds) which reduces fragmentation especially when the copy
operation takes time.

forgery protection for multiple browser tabs
Hi,
http://apidock.com/rails/ActionController/RequestForgeryProtection only
maintains one CSRF token at a time. When a user visits some site, he gets a
new token in the session. He then might open a linked site of the same
rails app in a new browser tab (maybe some info he''d like to read), and
again he will get a new token. Then he changes to the first tab again and
submits a form

Date parse - month and day reversed
I am getting the month and day reversed in parsing a date. I am wondering if
there is some intelligence in Ruby that knows that at the moment I am in
Mexico, as the parsing is working as if I was
"6/15/2008".to_date
=> ArgumentError: invalid date
"15/6/2008".to_date
=> Sun, 15 Jun 2008
What I really want is my date to be understood as month/day/year. Is there a

undefined method `assert_select'
I''m having trouble getting the specs to run for a plugin where I want to
fix a bug. (I''ve actually already found and fixed the bug, but I don''t
want to submit a fix without a test!) When I started the specs weren''t
running, but it may be that I''m using Rails 2.3.3 and the plugin has
been tested on 2.1 and earlier. I went through writing a spec for a

Strange issues with Excel & Samba
I have a client who used to have an NT server, we replaced it with
Gentoo Linux and Samba v3.0.9 and they are now having what appears to be
some sort of file-sharing issue with Excel.
When a user opens an Excel file on the file server it opens properly, no
errors or warnings of any kind. But when they try to save the file,
Excel warns them that "the file may have changed by someone

Can I omit respond_with.
If I don''t want xml results but only html can I omit respond_with in
some actions?
For example index from:
respond_with(@sectors = Sector.all)
becomes only
@sectors = Sector.all
isn''t it?
