Dealing with Form Data
Google lets me down once again :-) Coming from a PHP background I know I can take submitted form data, mix it, mash it and put it together in very odd ways. In other words do this. $title = "My Title" $sub_title = "My Sub Title" $full_title = $title . "-" . $sub_table And submit $full_title to the database. I have yet to find a solution for this in Rails - I

Rails Syntax Change
I am a newbie. Looking at some old text vs new. I see some changes: New: <%= yield(:title) %> Old: <%= @title %> New: "#{base_title} | Home" Old: @base_title + "| Home" Can you tell me when they got changed? Are the new syntax now the preferred way? Are they more elegant? Thanks! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google

RSpec/rails & Capybara: #within
I''m new with Capybara and after a good amount of google, I still can''t figure out how the #within methods works! I can use it only if I call visit before? There''s no way to use it on a string, like the `page = Capybara.string(html_string)` trick? When describe a view, I want something like that: describe "path/to/view.html.erb" do it "should pass"

Rails 3.2.10 and Rspec Tests that Fail?
The following tests used to reside in requests directory and used to work ... since I have upgraded to rails 3.2.9 and now 3.2.10 they fail. I have the following tests in(I am only showing the first two tests): spec/features/authentication_pages_spec.rb require ''spec_helper'' describe "Authentication" do subject { page }

Testing selector order in RSpec
Could someone point me to a reference that explains how I would test the order of elements on an HTML page? For example, in RSpec I would like to verify that the content of one <p> element appears before the content of another. response.should have_selector("p", :content => "Should appear first") response.should have_selector("p", :content =>

Rails view spec expectations/matchers
>From looking at the RSpec Rails documentation (https://www.relishapp.com/rspec/rspec-rails/docs/view-specs/view-spec) it seems like rendered is just a string and you can''t really do any assert_select type stuff out of the box. After Googling around, it seems that the RSpec authors decided that if you want that functionality, you should just use Capybara or some such... is that

I am following the rails tutorial: http://railstutorial.org/chapters/filling-in-the-layout#top Basically the test is something like: spec/requests/layout_links_spec.rb require ''spec_helper'' describe "LayoutLinks" do it "should have a Home page at ''/''" do get ''/'' response.should

new goodness, Capybara::RSpecMatchers in helper specs
This https://github.com/rspec/rspec-rails/commit/59793dcc349b64f4ebcf742606371001256c774d is exciting news!! ("this adds capybara matchers to view and helper specs") Now, if I just knew how to take advantage of it? Do I have to require something else in spec_helper? I have already added included gem ''rspec-rails'', ''~> 2.6.0.rc2'' gem

simple output string
Hi! I am new to Rails and wanted to know how I can print an easy string-line. I wanted to generate a dynamic title for my blog articles made with "typo": The first part of the html-title stays the same: <title>softrockcookie</title> if it is not the mainpage ("softrockcookie") it shall add the page_title, so: <title>softrockcookie <%= page_title

Looking for help on two issues with Rails 2.1 and RSpec 1.14
I have specs that ran fine in Rails 2.02/RSpec 1.13 that are failing on Rails 2.1/RSpec 1.14. There is one problem and one issue: problem: sometimes (but not always) I get a NoMethodError referencing a has_many association issue: in helper specs, instance variables don''t get set unless the HelperModule is included. Using the preferred helper.<method> I can''t seem to

rspec failure upon revisit
I just returned from a different project after taking a few weeks off of my tutorial. I''m using Ruby on Rails 3 Tutorial - Learn Rails by Example by Michael Hartl. RSpec 2/Rails 3 - content_for in view specs
My main layout includes separate content_for/yield sections for my header, sidebar, footer, and content. However, when running a view spec, the `rendered` variable seems to only contain a string of just the primary content and ignores the header/footer/sidebar as well as the rest of my layout file (the "render" call just returns my primary content wrapped in generic <html> and

javascript_tag replacing whitespaces w/ '%20'
javascript_tag replacing whitespaces w/ ''%20'' Hello, I have a form that tests if a title has been changed since the page was loaded and the page has been submitted. If the page title has been changed then a confirm box will ask if the user wants to have the title changed. The problem is if the person hits cancel, all white spaces in the title get replaced w/
