Rails 3 - Loading a Subnav with Ajax… Which controller owns a subnav?
Once my Rails 3 app is loaded, a user can click an item which needs to
then load a dynamic subnav.
My thinking is (since it needs to be dynamic) is onClick to make a
jQuery AJAX call to the server and then to inject the HTML response
into a DIV on the page...
What I''d like your advice on is how/where the subnav logic should live
in the rails app, as I don''t have a navigation

Autocomplete text-field version of dynamic select menu?
I have a form for submission of brand, model, and style. Style
belongs_to model, and model belongs_to brand. The form is actually a
style submission form, but allows users to create new brands or models
as well, should they not exist.
What I want is for the autocomplete for ''model'' to populate when an
object for ''brand'' is selected in the first text field..

Even reading the documentation I can not figure out what is the
select_tag difference between this:
<% = select_tag (bags [], "options_for_select (bags.collect @ {| bb |
[bb.bag_type, bb.id]},
ruser.bags.collect @ {| ub | ub.id}), {: multiple => true,: id =>
"bags"})%>
and this:

How to achieve Google Reader-like layout in Rails?
Hi
I''m trying to create a web application with a UI that is fundamentally
similar to Google Reader, in Rails 3 and probably with some Javascript
toolkit (jQuery?). I''m new to web development (my background is in desktop
application development), however, and after some experimentation with CSS
layout I''m frankly unsure of how to achieve the desired layout. Therefore

Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on
site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow
nesting, and can dynamically update.
So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which
contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the
parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

Why do I sometimes have to refresh the page manually after an AJAX form submission?
When I do remote form submits through jQuery .submit() why do I
sometimes have to refresh the page manually to see the results?
My jQuery handler is very simple:
$("#vote_yes").click(function() {
$("#approval").val(true)
$(".edit_vote").submit()
});
And the link that leverages this bit of code is as follows:
<%= link_to("Vote

newbie: what is preferred approach for including javascript files?
Hi,
What is the cost of not cacheing javascript? If that cost is serious,
do I prefer to selectively include javascript files only for view
where they are needed? In other words I see four options:
1) Cache everything in layouts/application.html.erb and don''t worry
about selective inclusion of .js files where they are needed;
2) cache some things in (e.g., dependencies like jquery) and
