Fwd: Re: Asterisk as a Condo door opener/intercom
Asterisk as a phone system makes perfect sense in a condo. You can get
all the DID's you want and eliminate costs for the owners. You can offer
standard FXO for people who don't care and IP sets for people who want
to "upgrade" to feature sets.
Your door openner is a piece of cake.

context that reads

Rsync efficiency on SQL dump files
G'day,
I'm backing up production MySQL database servers. The tables are almost
all MyISAM.
My plan is to use MySQL binary logging and then rsync the binary logs
offsite hourly. The binary log files are only appended to, with new
queries logged at the end of the file. So I'm assuming the rsync
algorithm will be highly effective at reducing the bandwith required to
transfer these

Asterisk as a Condo door opener/intercom
Hi Everyone,
Looking to replace a condo intercom system. Apparently the current one taps
into the lines and dials phone numbers but needs to be changed as it's
faulty.
I will probably still use the same analogue dialing and back it up with a
VoIP line and use the current cabling that is in place. But as for as the
door opening function goes, I am not sure how to interface and how open

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his
office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc.
especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo.
I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now
flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC

multiple disk failure
Hi,
I am using FreeBSD 8.2 and went to add 4 new disks today to expand my
offsite storage. All was working fine for about 20min and then the new
drive cage started to fail. Silly me for assuming new hardware would be
fine :(
The new drive cage started to fail, it hung the server and the box
rebooted. After it rebooted, the entire pool is gone and in the state
below. I had only written a few

[OT] Bacula offsite replication
Hi everyone,
I have updated my backup server to CentOS 8.2. It runs bacula performing
backup on disks. I would like to replicate backups on another offsite
machine.
I read about the ability to configure a new storage daemon in the
offsite location and create a Migration/Copy Jobs. If I'm not wrong, it
replicates only volumes but not replicate the catalog. I will try this.
Another way to

Hi Leroy,
How I can confirm that during rsync transfer corruption are not encountered?
Thank you in advance.

DR Server for Windows Machines
I need to setup a CentOS box offsite to have a series of files replicated to it.
My problem is this machine won't have Samba on it but I need to replicate the
hierarchy in question in such a manner that I can restore from it and retain
file system permissions.
That's where I am stumped, anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,

question about backup regimens
I need to recommend some backup options for a web server running
CentOS 4.1. The client prefers using a tape drive as their backup
device and has access to safe offsite storage. I was thinking of
system backups weekly and differential backups nightly but don't know
what software to recommend for the differential b/u's. For full
backups I can just schedule a tar and compress using

I am setting up my digital assistant and getting down to the task I need
this box to perform the most. I need to have a custom app that I can call
that will take me pressing 2 at the menu and have it transfer the call to a

Building an On-Site and Off-Size ZFS server, replication question
Good morning.
I am in the process of planning a system which will have 2 ZFS servers, one
on site, one off site. The on site server will be used by workstations and
servers in house, and most of that will stay in house. There will, however,
be data i want backed up somewhere else, which is where the offsite server
comes in... This server will be sitting in a Data Center and will have some
storage
