please explain find_with_ferret, retrieve_records, :include and :conditions
Hello, I''m using find_with_ferret to search multiple models and it works great. The trouble is I need to filter the results using :include and :conditions. I get two errors depending on the syntax I use in the search. Reading the source, I see the retrieve_records method seems to filter the :include and :conditions so that they only apply to the relevant model when searching

regression on large file
Dear R community, I have a fairly large file with variables in rows. Every variable (thousands) needs to be regressed on a reference variable. The file is too big to load into R (or R gets too slow having done it) and I do now read in line by line with "scan" (see below) and write the results to out. Although improved, this is still very slow... Can someone please help me and suggest

Cascading Comboboxen and GO button ?
Hello all, I have two comboboxen, comboA is popultaed when :controller/list is retrieved first time. When comboA is selected, I want to auto-populate comboB (modelB belongs_to modelA). The population of tableC (modelC belongs_to modelB and belongs_to modelA) should not populate until a "GO" button is clicked (link_to with submit). Help? I need an example of how to filter the post

has_one through belongs_to
Hi. My model data is the following: - Place - User - Checkin Instead of having a Checkin that belongs to both User and Place, I chose to add another model, Program, that allows to list all the places a user can checkin into, and also hide the checkins he''s no longer involved in (= the user sign out of a specific program). That give me crazy relationships: Program has_many Checkin

belongs_to, has_one, has_many question (again?)
Hi All, Probably this has been asked numerous times, I apologize already! Can somebody point me to a good tutorial on how Rails works with relations? I know about database design and normalization, I also know about programming in general (and OOP for that matter). Only thing I can say is that I''m following the "Four days on Rails" tutorial by John McCreesh. He writes

Sorting with SQL for has_one, belongs_to relationship
I''ve been using this sort helper to have sortable tables. http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/Sort+Helper I''ve encountered a situation where I need to sort a column that is not part of a table, but it''s related table. For example, say I have db tables called foos and bars. Foos have fields called name and title. And bars have fields called note and foo_id. Foos

How to has_one/belongs_to association only return the objects unassociated in combobox?
I have two models (Car and Driver) and a combobox to select which driver belongs to which car. I want the combobox just show the objects that have not yet been associated. # vehicle belongs_to: driver # driver has_one: vehicle # simple_form # vehicle/_form.html.haml = f.association: driver, label_method: :name, value_method: :id How to ensure validation before saving, to avoid problems of

has_one without inverse belongs_to
I have two models called entity and user. The entities table has a column called users_id that contains the user id of the user that created the entity. In entity I have... has_one :user ... as I want to be able to show the user who created the entity from the entity object. But this produces the following error... Mysql::Error: #42S22Unknown column ''users.entity_id'' in

has_one/belongs_to -- accessing the subordinate
With a has_one/belongs_to relationship, what''s the best way to guarantee that the belongs_to object gets created and is accessible alongside the has_one object? I *think* the after_create callback is a good choice, but I discovered an oddity while trying it. F''rinstance, if every horse has a carriage: ============ ActiveRecord::Schema.define do create_table(:horses) {|t|

has_one, belongs_to - I am just not getting it
Let me preface by saying i''m a total noob at ruby/rails. :-) For some reason, I am just not grasping the concept of has_one & belongs_to... I''m working on a project that includes user authentication, and 3 different types of user profiles. User profiles are either "fan", "band", or "venue" objects, and user logins are "user"

Validation errors in has_one/belongs_to relationships.
I have two objects, QuoteInput and Insured. QuoteInput has one Insured and Insured belongs to QuoteInput. I don''t understand what I''m seeing. I assign an Insured to a QuoteInput. The Insured object has invalid data. I call save! on the quote input. QuoteInput has no validations. I expect two things to happen - 1) an exception should be thrown, indicating that there was a

Default values for belongs_to and has_one
There really doesn''t seem to be a *declarative* way to define a default value for belongs_to and has_one associations class Person < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :address end p = Person.new p.address.city = ''Atlantis'' # Bummer! Of course, there''s an easy way to avoid this class Person < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :address

Extract r.squared using cbind in lm
Hello, I am using cbind in a lm-model. For standard lm-models the r.squared can be easily extracted with summary(model)$r.squared, but that is not working in in the case with cbind. Here an example to illustrate the problem: a <- c(1,3,5,2,5,3,1,6,7,2,3,2,6) b <- c(12,15,18,10,18,22,9,7,9,23,12,17,13) c <- c(22,26,32,33,32,28,29,37,34,29,30,32,29) data <- data.frame(a,b,c)

predicting glm on a new dataset
Hello together, I would like to predict my fitted values on a new dataset. The original dataset consists of the variable a and b (data.frame(a,b)). The dataset for prediction consists of the same variables, but variable b has a constant value (x) added towards it (data.frame (a,b+x). The prediction command returns the identical set of predicted values as for the original dataset yet I would have

solving a structural equation model using sem or other package
I am trying to work my way through the book "Singer, JD and Willett, JB, Applied Longitudinal Data Analysis. Oxford University Press, 2003" using R. I have the SAS code and S-Plus code from the UCLA site (doesn't include chapter 8 or later problems). In chapter 8, there is a structural equation/path model which can be specified for the sem package as follows S <- cov(al2)

Session Based Record Locking - Solutions?
All, I''ve written a simple job/opportunity tracking database app via RoR. I have about 10 internal users. Sometimes 2 people will want to update the same record at more or less the same time and they collide. In particular user 1 may edit a record, then get distracted, and finally an hour later they click save. During that hour user 2 may have pulled up the record, edited it, and
