3 xgl/compiz problems
Looking deeper to compiz/xgl I found three problems in my system that I
report to you hoping to be somehow a little useful.
I didn't find any of them using Xorg 7
First my testing environment:
KDE 3.5
latest XGL cvs - XORG-7.0
Nvidia FX5200 64Mb
Latest nvidia drivers
Kernel 2.6.16.1
XGL problems:
1) xine is somehow broken with xgl, even with no composite managers:
it is very slow even when

gps tags in vorbis comments
hi,
is there an official or semiofficial way to store gps location in vorbis
comments or any ogg file. mp4 and exif store at least:
- location name (e.g. London, UK)
- longitude (degree as double), latitude (degree as double), elevation
(meters) (these three according to WGS84)

Tremor maintenance
hi,
could someone please apply these to Tremor svn?
0001-update_symbols.patch
there are 3 public symbols in the headers, which are missing in the
linker script and thus marked as private again. This causes issues for
e.g. gstreamer (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=616194).
0002-pkgconfig.patch
this adds a pkg config file

XVideo vs OpenGL
Hi, I have a Pentium III PC with NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT on an AGP 8x and
am running NVIDIA driver 9755 on CentOS 5.0 x86.
What is the most efficient playback method for the various players,
XVideo or OpenGL? RealPlayer has a "Use XVideo" tick box under the
"Hardware" tab preselected, while MPlayer uses xv - X11/Xv, gl -
X11(OpenGL) and other Video drivers. What is the most

X11 XVideo extension supported?
I was wondering if the XVideo extension is supported or not? In a
clean wine setup, I installed DivX 4.01 and The Playa, also installed
Windows Media Player 6.4. They can both display DivX 4.01 material
with sound. This is simply great :-)
However, the performance is not that great. Especially when going
fullscreen the cpu is overburdened (slide show). I assume that the
XVideo extension is not

Xvideo and X.org on Intel GMA
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hiho,
I already reported this in <455F4553.9020109@tommie-lie.de> and found
time to reinstall compiz yesterday and the problem still persists.
I have Ubuntu's X.org 7.1.1 running on a Intel GMA 950 and latest
compiz. When watching Xvideo files, the overlay window remains black. If
I slightly move the video window, the video appears with

Re: Google Sketchup 6.x works, but only with xserver-xgl.
So, you have Intel graphics? Which chipset? I hear the 915 isn't good enough
for sketchup, but the 945 might be, though you may have to disable DRI.
See http://wiki.winehq.org/GoogleSketchup for more info, look at the links section at the bottom.

Composite/Zoom in compriz/xgl
First - I'm 24 hours into having xgl and compriz going. (very nice)
Second - I'm probably on the wrong list!
Is it possible to render (capture?) an image in compriz/xgl that's a higher
resolution than the screen output? The zoom plugin for compriz seems to use
the native res and then enlarge - at least by default...
Thanks,
Chris

Xgl/Compiz - Kernel, ATI, Console, and Multihead problems still unresolved
I've been avidly updating mesa, xgl, and compiz, every week (from the
portage-xgl overlay) hoping to solve some of these problems:
* Using ati-drivers-8.29.6 xgl crashes complaining about lacking dri, so
i'm using 8.27.10.
* Using 2.6.18 kernels, the ati-drivers-8.27.10 don't compile when
building the drm module.
* My laptop automatically switchs to vt1 when init services fail

[feature request] fglrx without Xgl works with copy method in beryl
Latest amd/ati drivers (8.37|8.38) supports composite with dri.
So, after patching beryl (cause he can work without tfp) to make it use direct rendering on "aiglx method" and removed check for GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, which fails. - I was able to run beryl on fglrx WITHOUT Xgl.
Only bug with windows drawing exists(as noticed in latest known issues for ati drives), more about this bug -

[PATCH] Compiz with Fglrx without Xgl (an hack for use-copy)
As posted few days ago by Vladimir, newer fglrx ATi proprietary drivers
supports the Composite extension (also if it provides buggy rendering
for some apps), that's why using the non-tftp rendering you could run
Compiz in fglrx drivers too without loading Xgl.
However the use-copy option makes compiz do some checks that the fglrx
drivers don't pass (I don't know why, since the

Running Compiz in XGL
I have a Dell Inspiron with the ATI x1400 video card. In Ubuntu 7.04 I
ran Compiz-Fusion in XGL with the fglrx drivers and the system was
very responsive. I noticed no performance penalties at all. In Ubuntu
8.04 I am running Compiz natively with the current fglrx drivers, and
the system is sluggish. Disabling Compiz makes the system very
responsive. So I am interested in running Compiz in XGL
