date validation in rails 3
consider scenario,
User model with name, birth_date fields (here birth_date is not mandatory
field)
inside view form birth_date is assigned as ''31/31/1985'' which is invalid
ideally user object should be invalid and while save raise an error on
birth_date field but that''s not happening and user object gets saved with
birth_date as blank which is completely misleading.

[Rails Heroku] Problem with saving object (on heroku hosting)
Hi All,
I have some strange problem which appears only on heroku hosting 2.3.5
default stack (not on my local computer)
I have some models. Here they are:
class Contact < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :user
belongs_to :type, :class_name => "ContactType", :foreign_key =>
"type_id"
validates_presence_of :name, :on => :create, :message =>

Puzzled with form on multiple table rows
I''ve got a table of events, and each event has a boolean attribute
is_ten_event.
On each row of the table is a chekbox to edit the value of is_ten_event,
so that multiple rows can be edited with one submit.
In order to allow boxes to be un-checked as well, the logic in the
controller works like this
get array of events from checkboxes that are ticked.
make all events.is_ten_event =

Hi,
When we update a record via an update form, is there an easy way to find
out the fields that have been changed. If the update is successful, i
want to display:
The following fields have been changed:
field-name = new-value
...
Thanks,
Lantis.

Create Two objects at the same time
I have user model and referral model. Referral model has user_id as
field.
Now when a new user is created, I need to call referral#create as well
and pass it the id of the newly generated user to user_id of referral
model. How can I do that.

Weird assignment problem, very confused :(
Hey, I have the following line in my controller:
User.create(:email => "fuuu-+RB1Aph5k6s@public.gmane.org", :password =>
''asldfkjadsfadsf'', :ip => request.remote_ip)
my IP is 127.0.0.1 - now User.find_by_ip(''127.0.0.1'') returns 0
records although User.first contains ''127.0.0.1''
if I change it to:
User.create(:email =>

Link to remote and the equivalent in Rails 3
Hi
WOW! Is Rails 3 another interesting learning curve. Just when I think
I have a general working knowledge of Rails 2 ... things change.
I''m trying to replicate the following in Rails 3:
<%= link_to_remote image_tag("creditcard.png", :border => 0), :url =>
{:action => :make_payment, :type => "Credit", :id =>
@appt.id },

Change primary_key column name
Hi,
after changing a primary key column name, the auto-increment information
(MySQL) and sequence (Oracle) are lost. What is the correct way to rename
primary keys?
Thanks,
Gustavo

Hello.
The acts_as_versioned plugin works fine ... till the adjunction
of optimistic locking via the lock_version table column.
Here is the problem description:
Without optimistic locking things are fine:

Rails 3 ActiveRecord queries - I'm missing something very BIG
Hi,
I know I am missing something very big regarding the changes with
respect to activerecord in Rails 3.
I can''t find the explanation. And I''m sure someone will kick my ass for
not
finding the right piece of info in the docs and guides. Please do.
I have a working piece of code but I don''t like it.
So. Very basic association:

Stop updated_at from auto updating?
Hi
Is there any way to temporarily stop the updated_at field from being
updated when a record is modified with ActiveRecord?
I have a date field which is keeping track of when the record data was
last checked by my application and my app manually updates it, of course
when I do this the updated_at field is also touched making it fairly
useless for finding out when the actual data was changed

Not updating the updated_at field
This is for Rails 3.1.1
I have a field called last_seen in a model. This field will be updated
when the something about the record is seen in the real world (don''t
worry about this part)
So I go x.update_attribute(:last_seen, Time.now) and the following happens is
UPDATE "blah" SET "last_seen" = ''2012-10-23 08:57:46.179288'',
"updated_at"

Testing equality
Hello
How can I test equality with two objects when they include some
attribute that is BigDecimal?
if I make something like this:
it "should ...whatever" do
obj = Factory.create(:my_object)
...
MyObject.first.should == obj
end.
FAILS
This fails because the object expected is different from the object
gotten, and the only difference are the BigDecimal attributes, that are

MySQL index question
I am trying to speed up some DB operations and perhaps have gone overboard
with indexes. Does MySQL usually use only one index per query and simply
match keys on the results of the indexed first part? For example:
DELETE FROM tokens WHERE 6813946236211560448 <= fnv AND fnv < 6818449835838930944 AND updated_at<''2010-06-20 14:08:55'' AND occurrences=0;

"include" versus "extend" - what's the difference
Hi,
Just wondering when one would use "include" over "extend"? Both seem to
bring in methods to the class no?
The context is I''m just trying to understand why both are used with the
acts_as_audited plugin:

Rails doesn't validate create_model or build_model (has_one association)
I''ve got User has_one Shop. Rails is not validating when I tried
create_shop or build_shop, neither in the browser nor the rails console.
My code:

attr_protected :user_id
belongs_to :user
validates_presence_of :name, :primary_address, :city, :country_code,
:currency
end

has_one/belongs_to -- accessing the subordinate
With a has_one/belongs_to relationship, what''s the best way to guarantee
that the belongs_to object gets created and is accessible alongside the
has_one object? I *think* the after_create callback is a good choice,
but I discovered an oddity while trying it.

Can not create model instance via params on specific model but can on others....
Anyone have an idea on this? Got a weird situation where on a specific model
I can not create an instance using params, yet it works fine on other
models. The model which does not work is a stock model, there is no logic in
it. Ruby 1.8.7/Rails 3.0.5.
Does not work:

#<PaymentTransaction id: 2, purchase_id: nil, action: nil, amount: nil,
