Is apostrophe (') something special in a regex if at end?
(Ruby 1.9.2) I have a simple validation regex which I need to pass the following values: "Billy-Bob" and "O''Kelley" (as test cases). Originally I was not allowing apostrophe but it became apparent I had to allow it. The initial regex was: /^[a-zA-Z -]*$/ Now, when I added the apostrophe like this: /^[a-zA-Z'' -'']*$/ Then for some reason

I''m starting with Rails going through the obvious "Getting Started with Rails" guide: http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html Everything goes smoothly until the rake db:create command, which returns this strange error message referring to a gem that apparently doesn''t exist: Please install the postgresql adapter: `gem install activerecord-

All of a sudden, i''m getting this error when trying to launch the console - no such file to load — ubygems (LoadError) I''m using 1.2.3 as my base rails install and i also get the same problem in a project frozen to 1.1.6. Should be obvious, but how do I even know what versions of ruby are available for rvm to use with rvm install?
I''m getting back to learning rails and at one point I used rvm to install some rubies. Now I''m playing dumb and want to install the latest ruby version - latest beta. How in the world do I found out the name of it? I''d think it would be named somewhere here http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/downloads/ and then I could just do rvm install ruby-XYZ. I don''t get where I

Link to remote and the equivalent in Rails 3
Hi WOW! Is Rails 3 another interesting learning curve. Just when I think I have a general working knowledge of Rails 2 ... things change. I''m trying to replicate the following in Rails 3: <%= link_to_remote image_tag("creditcard.png", :border => 0), :url => {:action => :make_payment, :type => "Credit", :id => @appt.id },

RSpec/Webrat Checking output is properly escaped
I want to test that the JSON response from a create action is sanitized properly, but rspec or webrat appears to be parsing the output into proper HTML chars instead of escaped characters. I have verified that it escapes properly in the regular browser json response. The relevant RSpec test code is: include ActionView::Helpers::TextHelper include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper it

Encoding
What''s a good solution for fixing character encoding problems for compatibility between ascii and utf-8? The database is postgres and is encoded in utf-8. Once in awhile there will be a compatibility error from strings from a webform. Is there a command to fix this besides using a_string.force_encoding(''utf-8'')? Even this doesn''t seem to always work either.

Uninstalling RUBYGEMS
Hi, does anyone know how to uninstall rubygem? I installed and it had the notorious hanging problem that no one seems to have an answer to. So I am going to attempt to install Rails without gems. Could someone point me in the right direction if you would not answer me? =) Regards, Edmund -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
