followup to graphics bug #414
I have done a little bit of poking around at the bug that I reported earlier (steep slopes and lines from far outside the plot range doing funny things), and have tracked it down to the fact that, as noted in the Unix man page, XDrawLine[s] doesn't like coordinates that are outside of the range of (-32767,32767). Now the question is, what to do about this? A quick "fix" (not a fix

Remote X connection to CentOS 5.5 using Xming -ac
Hello, I've rented a dedicated root server (SR7 at strato.de) and would like to run qemu at it, but get the error: # qemu -hda install.img -cdrom install47.iso -boot d Could not initialize SDL - exiting It seems that I have to establish X connection, so I've installed Xming at my WinXP laptop and at the server I have changed these 3 lines in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config: X11Forwarding

Missing tick marks bug on alpha solved
On some systems (alpha), tick marks don't appear on plots. The easiest way to see the problem is something like: > plot(0:1,axes=FALSE) > axis(1,1:2) The problem is in X11_Line(...) from .../src/unix/devX11.c, which is so short I've included the whole function below: static void X11_Line(double x1, double y1, double x2, double y2, int coords, DevDesc *dd) {

graphics bugs: steep slopes and large values beyond ylim (PR#414)
Some of my students have uncovered some apparent graphics bugs in R. I think they may manifest slightly different on different platforms/ with different display devices (they sometimes report a Windows graph that looks OK but odd results on printing). I'm able to replicate similar problems on my Linux (RH 6.0) system. 1. abline() plots nothing, or a wrong line, when the slope is too

KWD crashes when opening OOo
Hello, KWD crashes almost regularly when trying to start OpenOffice.org. I've attached two output files from valgrind to this e-mail (as suggested by David Reveman in another mail 11.7): Use something like: valgrind --tool=memcheck kde-window-decorator .... I'm using Trevino's git version of Compiz in up-to-date Kubuntu Feisty system. Compiz version is

Is it possible to run an application automatically?
Hi, I am pretty new in the wine world and maybe I am asking a stupid question, so please have mercy. I would like to run an application under wine directly, without waiting for the prompt and without executing it manually there. Something like autostart - I execute a Linux shell command that starts the wine and the needed application directly. Is this possible? My application dumps some plain

xterm "secure console" insecure
Dear Rogier, some time ago I laid claim that xterm''s "secure console" feature was by no means secure. You asked me to demonstrate this to you before you were to forward my message to linux-security. Please find enclosed the program I use as proof-of-concept. ------------------- Dear readers, please find enclosed a program illustrating a problem with xterm "secure

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 After 3 release candidates, it's finally done - libX11 1.4 is released. As previously warned, libX11 1.4 *requires* libxcb. The Xlib 1.3 branch continues to support the --without-xcb option for the benefit of any remaining distributors who do not yet ship XCB in their stable releases. Changes since the last release candidate: Alan Coopersmith

Wine on Windows
Hello, I've been trying to compile Wine on Cygwin with the idea of running Windows apps through an X server. I've had mixed success. Short story: This is a picture of Wine's notepad.exe running on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and displayed on my Cygwin/X server. I tried to display it remotely - obviously it works. There are some major problems, but I do believe that somebody who knows

graphics bug: type="l" (PR#120)
The following commands illustrate a problem with graphing relatively large data sets using the "line" option to plot: temp <- runif(200000) # or whatever other numbers you like; # same thing happens with a sine wave plot(1:200000, temp) # everything fine plot(1:200000, temp, type="l") # data gets cut off The number of points isn't crucial. The cutoff point
