2TB limit, weird mounting issues on reboot
Greetings,
I'm seeing some weird issues surrounding the 2 terabyte limit on my 3ware
(9590SE, PCI Express model) raid controller. Currently, the raid array is 6
x 500GB disks for a total of around 2.3 terabytes formatted. Looking at the
documentation on the 3ware site, the raid card can handle a single partition
over 2TB, but it still looks like fdisk fails to create a primary partition

2TB partition limitation on X86_64 version??
we have DELL server with Centos 5.3 X86_64 bits version on it. This server also have couple MD1000 connect to it. We configured MD1000 as one hardware Volume size 2990GB.
I tried to use "fdisk" to partition this 2990Gb volume and "fdisk" can only see 2000GB. does 64 bits O.S. still have 2TB limitation on File system?
Does there has other tool can partition disk size large

CentOS 4.4 LILO Raid (also e2fsprogs in general)
i noticed that the 4.4 upgrade broke LILO on Raid...
it gave errors on partitions not on the primary disk
along the lines of "/dev/dis: no such device"...
even explicitly installing the boot sector on each
device in the array, while it allowed the system
to boot, gave errors at boot time and did not
display the CentOS boot screen anymore...
i solved the problem by creating a

Sendmail conf
A long time ago someone helped me with setting up sendmail to simply queue
and relay mail. They suggested:
1) edit /etc/sysconfig/sendmail and set
"DAEMON=no"
2) edit /etc/mail/submit.mc and set
FEATURE(`msp', `[IP.of.relayhost]')dnl
Given the sendmail-cf RPM is already installed a "service sendmail
restart" is enough to a light, direct submitting sendmail

LVM on large partitions greater than 2TB
I want to create one large LVM volume on the 2.5TB device. I seem to be
able to create an LVM physical volume on the whole device, but I've read
that it's better to create a single large partition for LVM as the existence
of the partition informs other apps that the disk is in use which prevents
accidental corruption of the LVM volume.
Creating a large partition of this size under Centos

DomU 2TB vbd limit?
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question:
Is there a limit on the vbd size for pv guest domains, I''ve found only
rumors on the Internet about a 2TB limit, but from my experience with
xen-3.0.3 /linux-kernel-2.6.18-5 (installed from a debian etch packages)
I can say that a lvm volume of 3.7TB as created and formated in Dom0 is
seen as 1.85TB only of course reporting a corrupted xfs filesystem

Firewall/Proxy with time window access control
Hello all,
I have to setup a system that required to block users access internet in
work time but let them access internet on specified time window e.g

I plan to use iptables and squid to do block and web caching but I have
no idea how to control access on time frame. Could any one of you
experienced with this can give some starting point /document/howto start

DNS resolve.conf not working
Hi All:
After upgrading to 4.4 my server(s) will not resolve using the servers
listed in resolve.conf. This is not true of a server running a DNS
Cache server. I can do a netstat -e and show a connection to the DNS
servers but it will not resolve any domain names (please see below).
Any thoughts?

Advise on recovering 2TB RAID1
Hi all,
I have one drive fails on a software 2TB RAID1.
I have removed the failed partition from mdraid and now ready to
replace the failed drive.
I want to ask for opinion if there is better way to do that other than:
1. Put the new HDD.
2. Use parted to recreate the same partition scheme.
3. Use mdadm to rebuild the RAID.
Especially #2 is rather tricky. I have to create an exact partition

More than 2TB RAID...
Hi,
I just received a new server (HP DL180G5) with 12x 1TB HDs and I bumped into fdisks 2TB limits...
Since this is an entry level server, I can't use the classic HP bootable utilities to create smaller volumes et can only create a big RAID6.
I found out that: using parted, labelling it gpt and creating the partitions would do the trick.
But, what about grub? I read that it does not support

Strange reboots
Hi,
I have a CentOS 5.0 running as a web server.
# uname -a
Linux hostnamehidden.net 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 #1 SMP Wed Mar 5 11:37:38
EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Every 59 minutes (maybe every hour) it reboots without any logs,
without any traces and unfortunately with breaking software raid.
After reboot dmesg does not have any strange entries.
I double-checked crons, any strange

booting from a +2TB disk
I have been trying to install CentOS 4.1 on a new server today. The
installation went fine but the system doesn't boot. It doesn't even
get to the Grub screen. The system has a 3ware 9500 series controller
and 12 250GB SATA disks which are configured for RAID5 with one hot
spare. I searched on the web and noticed that this is a Grub (and
Lilo) limitation. Is there any way around it other

Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List!
I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck?

[Xen-API] 2TB limitation - bug?
When creating a vdi with "xe vdi-create", there is a 2TB size
limitation imposed, presumably because the default uses VHD, which has
this limit.
However, when a raw LVM partiton is created with the
sm-config:type=raw option, this limitation doesn''t make any sense.
Could the 2TB limit please be lifted when sm-config:type=raw is used?
Thanks,
-Dustin
