SQL result to String conversion
Hello All, I am very new to Ruby on Rails and I have a quick question for you all, which is as follows: I have this following line of code in an partial that renders itself on the posts/index view: Created By (User): <%= User.find(:all, :select => ''name'', :conditions => ["id = ?", 1]) %> (I am hard-coding that ''1'' there) Now, when I run

created_at, updated_at and MSSQL
Hello, I am running into a little issue. There is a considerable time difference between the time that the console is giving me and the time I am seeing in the created_at and updated_at column in the DB. The difference is about 5 hours. I don''t think the problem is in the DB, but I could be wrong. Am I missing something obvious? Any clues? -- You received this message because you are

has_one/belongs_to -- accessing the subordinate
With a has_one/belongs_to relationship, what''s the best way to guarantee that the belongs_to object gets created and is accessible alongside the has_one object? I *think* the after_create callback is a good choice, but I discovered an oddity while trying it. Can not create model instance via params on specific model but can on others....
Anyone have an idea on this? Got a weird situation where on a specific model I can not create an instance using params, yet it works fine on other models. The model which does not work is a stock model, there is no logic in it. Ruby 1.8.7/Rails 3.0.5. Does not work: (rdb:1) PaymentTransaction.create(:purchase_id => 3) #<PaymentTransaction id: 2, purchase_id: nil, action: nil, amount: nil,

save method (create action) saves twice
Rails 3.1.3 I have changed a regular scaffold action a bit so that it can save using ajax. All I needed to do was adding ":remote => true" in <div id="script_new"> <%= form_for script, :remote => true do |f| %> <!-- HERE!!! --> <%= f.hidden_field :video_id %> <%= f.text_field :text %> <%= f.submit "save" %>

Rails 3 ActiveRecord queries - I'm missing something very BIG
Hi, I know I am missing something very big regarding the changes with respect to activerecord in Rails 3. I can''t find the explanation. And I''m sure someone will kick my ass for not finding the right piece of info in the docs and guides. Please do. I have a working piece of code but I don''t like it. So. Very basic association: class Project < ActiveRecord::Base

I''m running a rails 2.3.5 / ruby 1.8.7 / postgresql 8.4.2 app and have just run into a curious problem. I have several tables that are initialized with data from csv files and I''ve noticed that, when I try to add new data to any of these tables via Table.new I get a PGError on duplicate key. Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow nesting, and can dynamically update. So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

serialized attribute converting to string on reload
Hello, Anybody help me out? I done googled it good and didn''t find anything (which should mean that I''ve done something wrong). Not much code to talk about here, quite simply I have an attribute that is serialzied and when I update it, irb shows the object and my methods run on it as it were indeed so. ActiveRecord with different Date/Time format
I have an application where user sets his/her preferred date/time format. User is expected to enter datetime in his preferred format across the application. Now the problem is for few formats the datetime is parsed wrongly while create/update ActiveRecord. For example user has set date/time format in hh:mm dd/MM/yyyy. Now if user enters 17:00 04/05/2012 it parses it as 5 PM 5 Apr, 2012 where it

Rails 3: Using local timezone on DB
I''m in the process of upgrading my existing Rails 2.3.8 app to Rails 3.0.3. One problem that I have encountered is how to make rails 3 read/write date/time data into the DB in localtime. In Rails 2.3.8, commenting out the ActiveRecord timezone settings did the trick, however in Rails 3, that doesn''t work as the default is now UTC. I have tried setting the config.time_zone to

Rails nested Routing
Hi there! I experienced an issue with routing. Basically, I''m trying to follow step-by-step the Rails'' official guides process for what concerns the nested routing. So, I have Newspapers that has_many :ads , and :ads belongs to :newspaper . What I did was simply trying to obtain an URL like this: http://localhost/newspapers/1/ads/1 but when I set routes.rb in this way:
