How often is this the case ? ??? > If extlinux is the system bootloader, then often what you call the > system partition will be the one that should have extlinux installed on it. I think in most cases people try to make _some_other_ disk bootable. If I boot with extlinux as the bootloader why should I want to install it again ? Apart from that it would then require -u not -i. extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
Hello list, in a previous post I mentioned I had managed to make USB-Stick with 2048 byte sectors bootable. In fact I wiped out my Linux partitions bootrecord. This was with an old version of extlinux as still distributed by openSuSE. Interestingly enough the current version syslinux-3.61-pre2, spares my hard disk, but still seems to live under the impression it is the USB stick. The setup is

EXTLINUX: Reading the extlinux.conf but can't find Kernel
Hi Folks, OK - I'm not entirely new to Linux but I'm certainly not great on the boot process. What I'm trying to achieve is to boot from an external USB HDD (not flash drive) using EXTLINUX. I've run an installation against the disk using a VM. The disk was partitioned as follows: /dev/sda1 = /boot (bootable) /dev/sda2 =/swap /dev/sda3=/ (i.e. root) /dev/sda4=/dos sda1 and 3

TBOOT and extlinux
Hi, I'm trying to get to the bottom of a problem using the combination of tboot (http://tboot.sf.net, trusted boot kernel for Intel TXT) and extlinux. TBOOT loads using the multiboot protocol, where the tboot "kernel" is loaded as the kernel, and the actual linux kernel and initrd are specified as modules. A working grub configuration looks something like:

For example, when I install a boot file system into /mnt/boot during usb booted system, the extlinux reports the following error. /usr/bin/extlinux -i /mnt/boot /mnt/boot is device proc /usr/bin/extlinux: cannot open device proc But /mnt/boot is mounted on /dev/sda1 and ext3 file system. I read the source code and found the following code in

[PATCH 1/8] extlinux/main.c: support unmounted ext2/3/4 filesystem
Add install_file_to_device() to support unmounted ext2, ext3 and ext4 filesystem. Usage: $ extlinux -i /dev/sdXN or $ extlinux -i file_block We don't need any new options, it will check whether the target is a directory or device and decide what to do, it would stop and error if the device is mounted. More info: * It will use libext2fs to read and write the file. * It will be used when the

Hiding partitions at boot time
Hi, My problem is I have a particular system which has Linux (LFS) and Windows XP on one drive and Windows 10 on a second drive. I use extlinux to boot my systems and all three systems boot as expected, however in use I have found unsatisfactory interactions between the Windows XP and the Windows 10 systems. My question is: Is it possible on booting one of the Windows systems to hide

[PATCH 1/1 v2] Add UFS1/2 support to Extlinux installer.
It's needed to enumerate both UFS1/2 since they have different magic numbers and super block offsets. Besides, UFS2 can be installed in the 0-64k range like BTRFS, whereas UFS1 can't. UFS2 has no cow feature unlike BTRFS. Signed-off-by: Raphael S.Carvalho <raphael.scarv at gmail.com> --- extlinux/main.c | 79 ++++++++++--- extlinux/ufs.h | 26 ++++

extlinux VPATH build issue
Hi: I've been seeing intermittent build failures with the extlinux target, and I believe I've tracked it down to a VPATH issue. See this make -d log: Finished prerequisites of target file `extlinux'. Prerequisite `extlinux.o' is newer than target `extlinux'. Prerequisite `setadv.o' is newer than target `extlinux'. Prerequisite
