Best practice on Javascript and rails
Hi, I get constantly nervy whenever trying to implement any javascript /
jquery in rails, basically because I''m not sure where to put things in
the project!
I know the people at rails have thought long and hard about how to best
structure an app, so I''d like to learn the correct way.
I''m using rails 3.2, ruby 1.9.3

guides on css strategy
I''m having to design the UI to a small site, and that means dabbling
in css. I''ve never been able to get any kind of decent idea as to how
to decide on classes and id-ing. I''ve had a sniff around the internet
without success: people seem to be as clueless as me. I''ve even
examined the css/markup of a few sites and it hasn''t been
enlightening.

footnote:id, colons and jquery
I just received a [bug report] for Python-Markdown complaining that
colons are used in the ids of footnotes. For reference, we [output]
the same format at PHP Markdown Extra. The general complaint is that
the colon in the id attribute (`id="fnref:1"`) causes jquery to choke
when referencing that id from javascript because jquery uses colons to
indicate pseudo elements (as does CSS). As

Conditions:
gem "coffee-script" # in Gemfile
at least one file with .js.coffee (even empty inside) in app/assets
Result:
WEBrick or Unicorn hangs. Only kill -9 <pid> helps.
P.S. What additional info should I provide?

I''ve installed bootstrap-sass, and added an @import line in my css. Rails
won''t find or serve up the bootstrap files. One error msg on the Mozilla

my scala markdown implementation
Hi,
I have written my own implementation of markdown in Scala. I only later
realized there is already one
( <http://tristanhunt.com/projects/knockoff/> ), but I put quite some
work into mine and I think it is never bad to have alternatives, so I
wanted to release it anyway. I want to use the same BSD License as the
original markdown, but before I put it out into the wild I wanted to ask

Nested for loops
Hi,
I have spent some time locating a quite subtle (at least in my
opinion) bug in my code. I want two nested for loops traversing the
above-diagonal part of a square matrix. In pseudo code it would
something like
for i = 1 to 10
{
for j = i+1 to 10
{
// do something
}
}
However, trying to do the same in R, my first try was
for (i in 1:10)
{
for (j in (i+1):10)
{

Ruby on Rails Asset pipeline - Pro and Cons
I was in chapter 5 of the Ruby on Rails, and I come across "Asset pipeline"
when R-o-R detect and jam all css and js files into one.
It''s true that Browser will have to make less requests, but at the same
time, the browser will potentially have to process more code than it should?
For example, I use a slider jquery plugin in gallery page, since R-o-R fuse
the plugin with

Find multiple elements in a vector
Hi,
Given a vector, say
x=sample(0:9,10)
x
[1] 0 6 3 5 1 9 7 4 8 2
I can find the location of an element by
which(x==2)
[1] 10
but what if I want to find the location of more than one number? I could do
c(which(x==2),which(x==3))
but isn't there something more streamlined? My first guess was
y=c(2,3)
which(x==y)
integer(0)
which doesn't work. I haven't found any clue in the R
