mysql quotation wonky
Why would, in an upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.0.3, a rake db:migrate run
this:
SELECT "schema_migrations"."version" FROM "schema_migrations"
vs this ?
SELECT `schema_migrations`.`version` FROM `schema_migrations`

Rspec2 for rails 2.3.8?
Hi experts,
I picked up a copy of the rspec book and wrote some tests in spec/lib
and spec/models for my Rails 2.3.8 code.
I was using rspec 2.5.1, rspec-core 2.5.0, rspec-expectations 2.5.0 et.
al.
But I realised that the rspec-rails version I am using is meant for
Rails3.
Which version of rspec-rails should I use for Rails 2.3.8?
Best,
Radhesh

I have had a frustrating time trying to get mongodb to work with Rails (works just fine with a plain Ruby app).

The error is traced to the code line <requires ''Mongo''>.

Thanks,

Webrick script/server file does not exist
Hello all,
I worked fairly enough with PHP and MySQL, but am very new to Ruby.
I have Windows machine with Apache and MySQL installed previously.
Both Apache and MySql were stopped while installing Ruby.
I tried several ways to install Ruby 1.8.7 and one-step installer.
I can use Ruby with netbeans 6.0.1 with its own Ruby or with the one I
installed now.
The problem starts when I try to create

Once I installed rails I created a new rails project using the command

This worked and created the folder structure.

The connection among Rails and MongoDB works, but I don''t know, how to

If I''m trying following a part of code:

rspec2 observations
Just a few observations now that I have completed the upgrade from RSpec-1 to RSpec-2.
1. In my project (2800 examples across about 40 files), MRI 1.9.2-p0 takes roughly 3 times longer to complete the spec run. Runtimes grew from 2.2s (rspec 1.3.0) to 6.1s (2.0.0.rc).
2. Rubinius 1.1.0 runs RSpec-2 without error.
3. JRuby 1.5.1 runs RSpec-2 without error.
4. Both Rubinius and JRuby print a

Mocking causes empty specification blocks
I''ve found myself mocking out a published api in my set-up method.
This has led to some contexts having a large set-up and empty
specifications. As the mocks get auto-verified, the specification
blocks have nothing to do but serve as documentation. Does this sound
bad?

Validation levels
Sometimes I want to show just one error, even when a field fails two or
three validations.
A custom validation method is easy enough, but the helpers are nice and
concise.
So, has anyone found a way of doing this with AR''s validation helpers?
The :if/:unless look promising, but its made harder by validations being
applied in a random order.
