Memdisk doesn't work without floppy drive
Hi,
I stumbled on a rather odd problem. A brand new HP Compaq dx2200 computer
didn't want to boot up pxelinux+memdisk image. The computer just gave "Disk I/O
error" and stopped there. Workaround was rather simple... Just attach regular
floppy drive to the motherboard and everything started working fine.
I tried with older 2.05 (pxelinux+memdisk) and newer 3.31. Both produced

push-pop ordering error found in memdisk
H. Peter Anvin,
The following problem came to my attention with memdisk. I cannot claim the
credit, but wanted to be sure the information made it back into the program
for the benefit of all users...
In file memdisk.asm, in respect of the operation of the raw and bigraw
options, the order of pop instructions does not correspond to the order
registers are pushed;

memdisk requires floppy drive to boot
Hello!
Below is an excerpt from the thread in October. I have the same problem,
but my laptop (which is a Brand new HP Compaq NC6230) does not have options
in the BIOS to enable or disable floppy support. It just doesn't have one.
I assume it leaves it enabled for USB Floppy support, but does not come with
the drive.
My ISOLinux setup is a UBCD. I tried to make my own, but the lack of

Problem with memdisk and DOS on USB
I'm new to memdisk and I wanted to have multiple floppy boot images on
my USB key, I installed GRUB2 as the boot loader and have memdisk in
/syslinux and my images in /image, I first tried booting normal
images, memtest86+ works, my linux kernel work and they boot
perfectly.
Now using memdisk, I tried booting Spinrite which uses FreeDOS, it
booted fine with no argument them frozen at querying

pxelinux / memdisk / afud408 freeze.
Has anyone had a problem with afud408 (Award flash program) freezing the
system when ran from memdisk?
The freeze occurs when just running afud408 (not attempting to update
bios, although it freezes then as well.)
I was using pxelinux/memdisk 3.36, I upgrade to 3.51, and also fell back
to 2.11 all have the same issue.
I have tried all the switches for memdisk that I saw posted on the

PXELINUX hanging when booting floppy images
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I am trying to create a PXE setup with floppy images for all needed
utilities - for example, BIOS flash for various motherboards, disk
diagnostic tools, memtest86+, etc.
I've gotten memtest86+ to work (using the .bin), and some of the disk
images work - however, some disk images will not boot. All of the images
were pulled from working, bootable

memdisk boot failure
Hi,
I'm trying to boot Feature Tool 2.08 (free download from
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm) from a pen drive
via memdisk. QEMU can boot the pen drive all right, my ThinkPad
can't:

about the 'length' arg of vector()
Hi,
In the man page for vector():
length: A non-negative integer specifying the desired length. Double
values will be coerced to integer: supplying an argument of
length other than one is an error.
Since long vectors are supported, it doesn't seem to be true anymore
that "double values will be coerced to integer":

memdisk image problems on shuttle hardware
hpa,
Seeing your post about 3.71, I wanted to get a message out even though I
don't have the stats right now.
I am having a problem with memdisk with a lot of shuttle computers, but
also affects a variety of other hardware (low though, 5%? less?).
The image that I can most reliably test against is the Hitachi Drive
fitness Test.

memdisk from 3.36 crashing on Dell PowerEdge 1955
Hello list,
I had to boot a Dell Diagnostic Disk today, and tried doing this via
memdisk - which was when I noticed memdisk isn't working for me at all,
neither from pxelinux nor syslinux.
After trying around with 'raw', 'bigraw' and the like I noticed it
doesn't even do anything when just using:
LABEL diag
KERNEL memdisk
.. when I try that:
boot: diag

Memdisk large IMA file
Does someone know where I could get my hands on an ima that's larger
than 2.88meg... I use winimage for all my ima's and stuff but i'm
having trouble configuring a custom size. If anyone has a large ima I
could utilize that would be great, preferably one fitting this memdisk
supported size:

Hi list!
I'm trying to make a hd image with can boot from memdisk over PXE.
So this is what i did:

booting a dos floppy from a disk image over pxe
Hello,
I'm trying to boot a dos floppy stored on a disk image which is initially
loaded over pxe using memdisk.
I've created the disk image as follows:
dd if=/dev/zero of=$IMGLOCATION/$IMGNAME bs=$(( 1024 * 1024 )) count=20
LOOPDEV=$(losetup --show -f $IMGLOCATION/$IMGNAME)
MAJOR_MINOR=$(ls -l $LOOPDEV|awk '{print $5$6}'|sed 's/,/:/')

Get MEMDISK parameters from WinPE 32/64-bit?
Hi.
I'm working on replacing a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded DOS based
installation image with a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded WinPE ISO image. So
far everything seems to work well (appending "bigraw" to memdisk solved
booting problems on several machines), but I kind of miss the option of
using getargs.com to get/set environment variables from the memdisk
command line.
Is there any way to

Virtual machines booting PXE - PXELINUX
Hello, new to the group. We have been using PXELINUX for some time now with
great success. However, with the recent spawn of virtual machines now
supporting PXE boot, has anyone been able to mount the disk in this
enviornment? Could someone direct me to any information on how to mount and
or partition drives? I have discovered the same issue with the HP DX2200
model of PC. For example if I run

SYSLINUX 3.08-pre10, including "bigraw" support
I have released 3.08-pre10, which includes a version of 'raw' support
which should work when the CPU is in big real mode (called 'bigraw',
appropriately enough.)
Note that it will ALWAYS put DS and ES in big mode; there isn't any
really sane way to test if they should be or not.

Bug-report: Memdisk regression for XMGR DOS memory manager
For the boot floppy at http://superkeen.com/peacecorpsfiles/FUZOMA14.IMG
using memdisk from syslinux version 3.72 boots correctly, but for
memdisk versions newer than 3.72 (I tested 3.73, 3.75, 3.85, and 3.86)
all hang at boot with the following message:
Loading boot sector... booting

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

Debugging version of MEMDISK available
Hi all,
I'm experimenting with a hack which I think might make MEMDISK a bit
more reliable in "raw"/"bigraw" modes. However, I haven't decided yet
if it really is something I want to include, but if you have a machine
which has problems running MEMDISK, perhaps you could try it out:
