Following railstutorial.org tutorial, how to make the microposts be seen by all?
I am a new learner of Ruby on Rails. I followed through the railstutorial.org tutorial and I''m trying to learn off the sample demo app where you can to make microposts and only the people who are "following" you can see them. If I wanted to make it so every user can see microposts as an additional functionality, what are the steps to do that? -- Posted via

[LLVMdev] A LLVM shout-out from Charlie Stross
[ Sorry if this is the wrong list; I don't know of an 'llvm-news' list ] In a discussion about ebooks on his blog (http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2012/07/why-ebooks-are-not-like-paper-.html): > Why ebooks are not like paper books [snip] > Other key points: > > It's irrelevant in trade fiction, but epub 3.x permits embedding of Javascript. where are the worthwhile markdown dingi?
where are the worthwhile markdown dingi? (dinguses?) i'm interested in any dingus that can take a "reasonable" amount of text -- let's say anything up to a megabyte -- and return the results in real-time, without a long wait... ideally it'd handle something more than gruber-minimum, and an a.p.i. (that'd take a u.r.i. as input) would be dandy... bonus points for

Mobipocket not detecting usb connected ereader
Anyone have pointers on how to get an ereader assigned a PID so it can use DRM'd .mobi files? The mobipocket software works great on the computer through wine (1.3.8), but when I hook up my ereader to the computer through a usb cable the software is suppose to detect it and assign it an ID code which lets it open the DRM ebook files. The detection is not happening. I can move the files

writing tools that use light-markup
let's talk about writing tools that use markdown (or more broadly, another form of light-markup)... to begin with, there is the markdown "dingus"... from a demo perspective, it has been _fantastic_. it has provided interested observers a quick idea about the simplicity and the power of markdown. as a writing tool, it's a bit clunky; it will work, yes, but i'd doubt many

Problems parsing page encoded in Shift-JIS
I''m posting this question to both mailing lists as I''m not sure whether it''s a Mechanize problem or a Nokogiri problem. Using Nokogiri and Mechanize to load and parse a web page encoded with Shift-JIS. I have an HTML construct like: <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=Shift_JIS"> </head> <body>

Kindle failure
My Kindle for PC has worked fine in WINE for many months, although the offered upgrade last month did fail to install; I didn't need it anyway. Now it has suddenly stopped working, I think since latest Ubuntu updates, not the 1110, it was fine with that for weeks. What might this mean? $ wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Amazon/Kindle/Kindle.exe fixme:service:scmdatabase_autostart_services

reading -- and editing -- ebooks
Last week I bought a couple books, not ebooks. I considered buying the ebook, but don't want to need a special device/appliance to read it. I'd much prefer to read ebooks on the Linux (CentOS) machine I'm already using. Also, I'd like to be able to programmatically convert the ebook into a format I can edit myself, e.g., HTML. I have no experience owning or purchasing ebooks.

Problem with Wine on a Mac
I'm trying to use Wine on an Intel Mac (OS 10.4.11) to run the Amazon Kindle for PC app. I've installed Wine following the instructions at http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ and when I do "wine KindleForPCinstaller.exe" from SH's $ prompt, it successfully creates the file "Kindle For PC.desktop" (which looks like a Windows shortcut or batch/shell
