Spork + Autotest Failure
Hi folks, I''m going through railstutorial.org and so I apologize if I''m hitting the wrong group here and would appreciate any appropriate redirection if necessary. I''ve set up Spork + Autotest as per Michael''s instructions in http://ruby.railstutorial.org/chapters/static-pages#sec:testing_tools Essentially by doing the following (using rvm & I''m

Rails Test Notifications w/ Growl Plugin
Hi all - I''ve just posted a quick plugin that adds notification of test failures via the Growl framework (http://growl.info) for OS X users. Its a great way to keep up with your test suite, especially when coupled with autotest. And if you''re anything like me, you probably already have Growl rocking. Anyway, see my blog for details on installing the plugin:

RSpec / Cucumber painfully slow Rails 3 OSX
I am working on my first Rails BDD project with extensive tests since starting out with Rails a few years ago. Running RSpec or Cucumber is really slow. I''m using Rails 3 and RSpec 2. To run one model spec with only 5 tests takes almost 1 minute! When it finishes it says it took only 0.9 seconds to run the actual test. So obviously it is loading the environment that takes so long. I just

BDD screenscast
I posted a quick screencast demonstrating some BDD with RSpec yesterday: http://wincent.com/a/about/wincent/weblog/archives/2007/05/ behaviourdriven.php I''m a C/Objective-C programmer who knows a bit of Ruby, almost nothing about Rails, and in BDD I can really only claim "new but interested" status. It''s not scripted, it''s totally improvised and

Autotest''ing specs on non-rails app
I''m having trouble using autotest with rspec on a non-rails project. my Rspec gem is version 1.0.8, ZenTest is 3.6.2 project structure $ ls * lib: parser.rb spec: parser_spec.rb autotest finds and runs the spec, but it won''t detect changes to lib/parser.rb I know it''s something stupid, but... help? -- Rick DeNatale My blog on Ruby

I have boosted my productivity !
Just a positive experience I would like to share with you : testing is great on paper but very tedious to apply because nobody wants to run manually the tests by hand. Last week I have discovered zentest, an automated test process command line utility. That was at the beginning (hopefully) of a new project. Believe it or not, I have started to code most parts of the application without using

autometric gem
I''m working on tool to automatically run code metrics in the same way as autotest. It''s runs rcov, flog, and saikuro right now, and works with rspec and rails. It''s hosted at rubyforge: http://rubyforge.org/projects/autometric/ I''ve got a post on how to configure it with growl: http://benburkert.com/2007/11/9/introducing-autometric I''m hoping

OS X - `require': no such file to load -- sqlite3/sqlite3_native
I''ve searched and search, tried a number of things like unstalling sqlite3 and reinstalling. Reinstalling Rails, building sqlite3 from source, etc. Nothing seems to work. When I try to start up my server I get the following: MacBook-Pro:splash Ross$ rails server /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/Ross/rails_projects/splash/json/ruby/1.9.1/gems/sqlite3-1.3.3/lib/sqlite3.rb:6:in

Zentest and rspec
Hi guys I''m new to rspec and was wondering if there is a quick setup to get it to work with autotest, sans rails. autotest and rspec_on_rails not happy
Hi, I''ve been using the rspec and rspec_on_rails plugins quite happily on my Rails project for a while now. Today I noticed the autotest support in RSpec-1.0.3 and decided to give that a spin. Oh tragedy! $ autotest loading autotest/rails_rspec ./vendor/plugins/rspec_on_rails/lib/autotest/rails_rspec.rb:33:in `initialize'': undefined method `singularize''

Autotest with rspec HTML output
Hey all, I was just wondering if any one has played around with getting autotest''s rspec integration working with rspec''s HTML output. I really like how in the rspec textmate bundle the context of the failing code is inlined with the failing spec along with the exact line highlighted and a link to the exact spot in reference. However, I rarely use this nice output since

Autotest, cucumber, spork and the wrong file
Running: Rails 3.0.5 ZenTest 4.5.0 autotest (4.4.6, 4.3.2) autotest-fsevent (0.2.5, 0.2.2) autotest-growl (0.2.9, 0.2.4) autotest-rails (4.1.0) autotest-rails-pure (4.1.2, 4.1.0) cucumber (0.10.2) cucumber-rails (0.4.0) spork (0.9.0.rc4) Gives me a truly bizarre situation. When I touch my features file, autotest runs a single, unrelated rspec test. Cucumber alone or with spork gives me the

Autotest and subclasses / namespaces
I am writing a controller admin/cities_controller.rb it inherits from AdminController, so it''s defined like class Admin::CitiesController > AdminController Whenever I save the controller file, autotest freaks out: uninitialized constant Admin::AdminController (NameError) I''m pretty used to just hitting CTRL-C to get autotest to re-load all the files, or flicking to

I lost the RSpec fight
I''ve been working on a Rails project with one other developer; he was using Test::Unit, and I was using RSpec. That works OK for a while, but obviously it starts causing pain when you have to check in two places to see if a piece of code is properly tested/spec''d, you can''t use TextMate shortcuts to switch back and forth between code and test, you have to duplicate

Yes, it prevents filesystem corruption, but I am not sure if it bothers to save the desktop state. You can check the "last" logs to see if it was cleanly shut down: $ last

Build a ruby gem and conditionally specify dependencies
I am working on a gem that has needs to set dependencies conditionally when the gem is installed. I''ve done some digging around and it looks like i''m not alone in this need. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4596606/rubygems-how-do-i-add-platform-specific-dependency # this is a long thread http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/957999 The only way I can see to add dependencies to

ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished
Hello I am rather new to Ruby and have been following along with the book "Ruby On Rails 3 Tutorial - Learn Ruby by Example - by Michael Hartl". I am currently in Chapter 3 which discusses static pages. In this chapter, I entered the following command into the prompt: "rails generate controller Pages home contact" and everything worked fine. Then the book directs me to
