problem of respond_with working on nested resources
hi all: when using namespace or nested resources in routes.rb,such as "namespace :admin { resources :books }, we can use [:admin,@book] way to generate path. It works fine in form_for , but when I use it with respond_with in controller, I get problems. The problem is when I put following code in controller: def create @book=Book.find(params[:id])

[rspec-rails-2] conflict with view isolation and respond_with
Hey all, For those of you interested in view isolation in controller specs, an issue has been reported with ActionController''s new respond_with method. Please take a look at http://github.com/rspec/rspec-rails/issues/103 and add comments if you have any thoughts on the matter. Thanks, David

respond_with with templates and http status when creating an object
Hi. When you use respond_with in a controller #create method and want to render XML the response gets the http status 201 (Created). But if you use a view to render this XML response_with uses the status 200 (Ok), for example when you use the gem rabl. I cannot determine if this matter is related to Rails or rabl. If it''s from Rails, is there a particular reason for this behavior?

"best practices" for Rails serving RESTful JSON services for use by AngularJS, Ember.js, etc.
I''ve been writing a gem to implement and extend common controller functionality so that Rails can be used with Javascript frameworks like AngularJS (which we are using), Ember.js, etc. in such a way that the user doesn''t have to tweak a a bunch of rails g controller boilerplate code to provide services for use in these frameworks that in turn would require various changes to

Rails 2.0.2 + RJS
Hi I had ajax commenting on my app, which worked perfectly on Rails v1.2.6, but does not work the same in Rails 2.02. Basically the comment gets added, but the visual effects do not work (ie lines 2 + 3 of create.rjs) create.js page.insert_html :bottom, ''comments'', :partial => ''comment'' page.visual_effect :appear, "comment_#{@comment.id}"

Object/Record foreign key IDs set to zero
Hello, Hope no one minds me just jumping in here with a question. I''m completely new to Ruby on Rails. I''ve been reading "Simply Rails 2", and following their examples. I reached a point where the unit tests were unexpectedly failing. Upon investigation, I discovered that when Rails loads the fixtures, the foreign keys aren''t being populated with the foreign

Ajax and rails 3 UJS (jquery)
Hi, guys, I''m in the midst of moving an app from rails 2.3.8 to rails 3.0.9. Sadly, rails 3 no longer has javascript generators and I''m now forced to do more javascript. For my project, I have selected jQuery as the javascript framework for my rails 3.0.9 app. What I have done to have my app''s deletion link (for each item) trigger an alert box when the deletion

Rendering a different format in the implementation of a renderer
Yehuda has a nice article on implementing a custom renderer for PDF at http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I''ve tried to follow the example and I''m not sure I see how to get it to work. If I understand things correctly, the format(s) usable in this render call respond_with(@resource) do |format| format.xyz { render :xyz => ... } end

rcopy.pl an Perl script for rsync (with XML config)
Hello all, I have been working on a Perl script called "rcopy.pl" that basically allows you to configure rsync via an XML file. It's very easy to use. And it's very usable at this point. FEATURES: * allows you to create your own set of rules to backup a system (synchronize) -- a la 'rdist' * you can have multiple servers and user accounts for different sources in one

Using LIKE
I''ve heard that using LIKE is very slow, but I see it being used a lot in examples, blogs etc. Is it really that bad? Since Rails doesn''t directly support Fulltext search, this is the easiest way to get searching done, right? Or are there any other easier ways? I''m using acts_as_indexed right now, but it still doesn''t do what LIKE does.

rspec: identical tests fails when repeated

exception notifier not working on production
I''m using Rails 3 and installed exception notifier as a gem. It works perfectly in development, but for some reason it isn''t sending e-mails in production. When I check the logs, I don''t see any mention of my app trying to send an e-mail, but running rake middleware shows that it is loaded.
