Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline or hogwash)
Is anyone using an inline IDS like hogwash or snort-inline to drop packets in a system running shoreline? I _think_ I see how to configure it, but I''d be really interested in finding a howto or something... Thanks! Mike- -- Mornings: Evolution in action. RE: Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline orhogwash)
I made an atempt to run snort_inline and shorewall on the same system but I could not get snort to see the packets. Maybe someone with a little more iptables knowledge could tell me what I''m doing wrong or if its possible to have the systems setup so that it places packets that the firewall would allow into QUEUE. After setting up and starting shorewall I then issue the following

File list Performance question
I have a server running SuSE 9.3 (Samba 3.0.13-1.1). The underlying filesystem is xfs, and the NICs are Netgear gigabit. 2 Gb of ram in a P4/3.0 Ghz. The workstations are windows XP Pro, with all service packs installed, on P4 3+ Ghz, 1-2 Gb of ram. (varies a bit by workstation) I have one particular tree on the server that contains over 12K files in a few hundred subdirs. Breaking it up

eth0 & eth1 changing every boot
This is probably a stupid question, but I''m stumped. Practically every time my firewall boots (not often, but still) eth0 and eth1 exchange places (internet and intranet). How do I lock them down? SuSE 9.2, Shorewall 2.2.3. Thanks! Mike- -- Mornings: Evolution in action. Only the grumpy will survive. -- Please note - Due to the intense volume of spam, we have installed site-wide

NFS not exporting filesystem ACLs
Hi. I have a test system in an lab I have copied over the /etc/sysconfig/nfs and /etc/exports from productions all the same services are running. But in the test environment the client mounts the nfs exports but the file system ACLs are not visible , what have I missed ? I have stopped the firewall on the server and that didn't help. Filesystem acls are enabled in fstab for the file system

nfs root kerberos
Hai Jason, Hmm, yes, well, only one thing i can think of now is And thats the last one.. Is the server allowed to delelagate kerberos services? If you have set that also? It's the last thing i can remember. nfs root kerberos
Hi Louis, Thanks for your message. However, I already have NFS working completely. I'm only trying to work out root NFS access on the client.? I tried your NFS translation fix via idmapd.conf? but that isn't working for me. I've discovered that's because CentOS 7 is using gssproxy so apparently your fix won't work. The fix from Red Hat (adding some lines to krb.conf seen in my

Help with error message: Can't become connected user
I cannot even start troubleshooting until I buy a clue. What does "Can't become connected user" mean? It shows up fairly often. NFS hard mount
Is there a tunable to set NFS hard mount time out? For instance, if the server becomes unavailable for extended amount of time, say 1 hour. I would like to timeout after 30 secs. (Soft mount isn't an option, BTW) -- --- Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.--

NFS and firewall issues
Hi, I have a small home LAN, where one machine (192.168.1.1) connects to the internet via dialup (no DSL here) and shares the connection with IP masquerading. To achieve this, I tried out various recipes found on the internet, and finally put this in /etc/rc.d/rc.local: --8<------ rc.local ------------ #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts. # You can

Survfit Error
Hi everyone, I am not new to R, but new to running survival models in R. I am trying to create some basic KM curves, using the following code: library(survival) library(KMsurv) (import data etc - basic right censored, with continuously observed time of death) sleepfit <- survfit(Surv(timeb, death), data = sleep) Here timeb is measured is survival in years, death is a 1/0 indicator (1 =

NFSv4: Using fsid=0 but *not* exporting the root filesystem
Hi, I would like to use the NFSv4 ability to create a "root" filesystem with fsid=0, so that I don't have to refer to the whole path of the exported filesystem when I mount it. However I do *not* want this root filesystem to be mountable by any host. Is that possible and how? E.g Filesystem: /exports/data1 /exports/data2 /exports/data3 /etc/exports: /exports

NFS/NIS and firewalls
I have a few C5 machines on an isolated LAN that connect to a RHEL5 server via NFS and NIS for authentication. I discovered that one of the C5 workstations worked fine for NFS exporting, but refused to collaborate with the EL5 server for NIS user authentication. I had successfully connected other systems to this server without issue, but this machine was finicky. I had initially enabled

ocfs2 cluster becomes unresponsive
We are running OCFS2 on SLES9 machines using a FC SAN. Without warning both nodes will become unresponsive. Can not access either machine via ssh or terminal (hangs after typing in username). However the machine still responds to pings. This continues until one node is rebooted, at which time the second node resumes normal operations. I am not entirely sure that this is an OCFS2 problem at all

NFS exporting btrfs subvolumes.
NFS needs a unique identifier for a filesystem to be able to export it. This can be set by the admin (fsid= in /etc/exports) but that is a hassle and it is best to set it automatically. nfs-utils currently uses the UUID returned by libblkid if that works, or the fsid returned by statfs64 if libblkid finds nothings and fsid is non-zero. Otherwise it uses device major/minor. This

Function Surv and interpretation
Dear everyone, My question involves the use of the survival object. We can have Surv(time,time2,event, type=, origin = 0) (1) As detailed on p.65 of: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/survival/survival.pdf My data (used in my study) is 'right censored' i.e. my variable corresponding to 'event' indicates whether a person is alive (0) or dead (1) at date last seen
