Questions about Chapter 9: Sign in, Sign out of RoR Tutorial | Learn Rails by Example
Hello
Finished reading chapter 9 and im a little bit confused.
1. In the tutorial, Modules are used instead of creating a Model and
working in a class inside a module , like in authenticating passwords.
Wouldn''t that be possible? Or is it unnecessary since we''re not
messing with a database in terms of storing data?
2. what is the difference between session[:remember_token] =

Getting started w/ Rails 4
Hi. I''m trying to run Getting started tutorial under Rails 4.0.0.beta1
although it assumes it runs on Rails 3. I was able to get rid of all
errors by wrapping post_params here and there, and installing
protected_attributes Gem for attr_accessible to make sense. Post/
comment CRUD works just fine, but I don''t seem to be able to add Tags
(the final part of the tutorial). Post saved

Where to find info about seed.rb, db:seed functionality?
There is no any mention about it neither in API nor in Guide. How to use
these features? The only gist with two sentences is in db/seed.rb file.
That''s really not enough.

git clone locally
Hi,
I follow the instructions below to set up a git repository with
gitosis on my home ubuntu server. I can connect to the repository
remotely perfectly and set up a new repository named My_Project. I
successfully push the content of My_Project to this repository using
the remote computer with an SSH key. Now I want to clone My_Project
locally onto another directory within the unbuntu server.

RSpec / Cucumber painfully slow Rails 3 OSX
I am working on my first Rails BDD project with extensive tests since
starting out with Rails a few years ago.
Running RSpec or Cucumber is really slow. I''m using Rails 3 and RSpec
2.
To run one model spec with only 5 tests takes almost 1 minute! When it
finishes it says it took only 0.9 seconds to run the actual test. So
obviously it is loading the environment that takes so long. I just

How can I disable Rails 3.1's ActiveRecord Query Caching?
Hey guys,
As most of you know, Rails 3.1 introduces query caching for
ActiveRecord. Great change all-in-all, but for those of us with IT
department mandates for using MySQL (yeah, yeah, I know...), it''s kind
of a mixed bag.
I need to disable query caching in a project I''m building based on
3.1. I''ve tried a couple different approaches, both without any
success. I

Simple question on rails routing
How does the :default option differ from just setting the key value
pair at the end of the route?
For example:
map.connect ''index/test/:foo/:bar'', :controller => ''index'', :action =>
''test'', :defaults => { :foo => ''foo'', :bar => ''bar'' }
map.connect ''index/test/:foo/:bar'',

Rails development advice
Hello,
I''m new to rails but not new to programming. Yet I feel the lack of an
organized environment for development is somewhat hindering my ability
to learn rails thoroughly (3 console windows, text editor with a bunch
of plugins, database editor and viewer, browser window opened and all
this with a lot of data scattered throughout multiple files.. you get
my drift..)
