Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the idof nil, use object_id - solved
Hi Bill,
No I am not using Instant Rails.
>There are lots of variations possible. Typos and capitalisation
represent the largest proportion of errors I personally have made.
Thanks a lot....solved the problem. Changed recipes (plural) in
controller file to recipe (singular). That teaches me to pay *real*
attention to casing. (forgive me, I am from the VS and VB world :-)

Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id
Hi
I am a newbie to Ruby on Rails, but experienced in programming.
I am trying out Rolling with Ruby on Rails article by Curt Hibbs on
onlamp.com. I have encountered following error:
Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted
the id of nil, use object_id
I searched the archives of the list and found that similar
question was left unanswered. I do understand from

Where did this value in a form come from?
Newb here.
I have a form and a value that is being displayed ... and I have no idea
where the value came from.
I have done a
<%= debugger; '''' %>
in the form and, indeed, the debugger stops at the statement.
I have tried to trace through the code to see where the value came from
... and I gave up.
So ... what in Rails initializes the fields of a form?

Form to update two tables
Hello there,
this is probably a very simple problem but I''m stuck.
I''m following the Login generator tutorial from rubyonrails. It''s all
worked fine so far. But I want to add a bit more functionality so that
when a user signs up in addition to chosing a login name and password
they type in a company name which is added to a seperate table called
COMPANIES. The id

password, and password confirmation, but cannot seem to figure out the
checkbox. I want it to be a single checkbox, that if clicked, will set
the database column "access" to be "admin" and if its unchecked, set

Ajax forms and redirects
Here is an example that seems perfect for Ajax that I have not seen
implemented nor can figure out how to do it. I am hoping someone can
give me some pointers.
On the sign-up page, I would like to do my validations (password
length, username uniqueness,etc ) Ajax-style. But if all validates,
then redirect to the success page. The combining of redirection to a
new page with Ajax is throwing me.

Any one who can help with how to implement such a login?
http://www.wayfaring.com/
I think it is implemented using rails.
For if u input the wrong url,u can see a "rails" style error hint.
I really like its ajax login system.
from the source of the homepage,it can be seen the login part is:
<div>
<h1>Log In</h1>
<form action="/account/login_ajax" method="post" onsubmit="new

rails 3.0.9 usability problem
If there is an error with the submitted password on a form, then both
the password and password confirmation text fields should be highlighted
in red. The default seems to be to highlight only the password field.
Any suggestions on how to correct that? Because rails magically handles
the highlighting, I''m not sure how to intercept that.

password_confirmation. it is passing in the following data
Parameters: {"commit"=>"Change Password",
"admin"=>{"password_confirmation"=>"beagle", "password"=>"beagle"},
"id"=>"3"

Quick question about @params
I was looking through the loginGenerator code and noticed the following:
Login:
User.authenticate(@params[:user_login], @params[:user_password])
Signup
User.authenticate(@user.login, @params[:user][:password])
The syntax of the call in the signup code confused me...what exactly
does @params[:user][:password] this return to me? Is the params
structure a multi-dimensional array? I would have

Routing Error using Paperclip
For some reason I can''t figure out why I am getting a routing error when
I add Paperclip support. I have another test app when similar code is
working.
I created a new test app first without Paperclip support and it was
