Finding HTML attributes with jQuery in Rails 3.1
I''m having trouble wrapping my head around the proper syntax to have jQuery (in an .js file) grab an HTML attribute and use the value of that attribute to load a partial. HTML fragment: <a href="/toggle" data-remote="true" section="training"> jQuery string (now setting a static partial, I need this to be dynamic)

DRYing Routes
I have a series of ''static'' pages for a site that need named routes in Rails 3. I''m trying to DRY the routes file, but can''t seem to find the proper code. The desired output/code is: match ''/about'' => ''info#about'', :as => :about for each page. My attempt to dry this: %w(about services articles marketing clients).each

So, in the midst of finals and term papers and moving out into the world of dial-up, I''d like to get things set up on a hosted

Layout antics
I have a strange problem with my layout file. I think it may be due to nested partials, but removing the deepest nested partial call does not clear the problem. I have an application wide layout (application.html.erb) that works as expected - loads images, javascript, css etc for my application. So http://localhost:3000/patients --> fine http://localhost:3000/patients/new --> fine

Activerecord::JDBCError: Invalid column number
Hi, I''m rather new to Ruby and RoR, so I do not really know whether this ist the right forum to place my question. For my first ''project'' I planned to create a simple online-viewer, which grabs data from an existing database and make them visible in a structured form via browsers. So I thought that could be the right beginner-project, because I have only read datasets

MonkeyPatching ActiveRecord::Base class
I am trying to monkey-patch the ActiveRecord::Base class to incorporate a generic search class method so that it can be used by all model classes which need this functionality. Since model classes directly inherit from ActiveRecord::Base and unlike controllers and helpers, do not have an ancestor class defined, I think I am forced to open the ActiveRecord::Base class and patch it? May be I am

Hyphens
Hi there, I''m working with some legacy data where customer phone numbers are stored with hyphens between the area code, exchange, and number (e.g. 555-555-5555). Is this the best way to store a phone number? Perhaps not, but it''s the way they were being stored, so I have to work with this format. Right, so when I save a record the log tells me acts_as_ferret indexed the
