screen saver under centos 5
Hi all,
I am using centos 5. I need the screen to always be on.
I have gone into System -> Preferences -> Screen saver
and then I unchecked the "Activate screen saver when computer is IDLE"
setting.
I also edited the xorg.conf and commented out the dpms line.
However, my screen is still going into some kind of screen saver.
What else is there to disable?
Thanks,
Jerry

KDE Screen Saver and Centos 4.3
In Centos 4.1 I am having to user the Xscreen saver as a
work around due to the KDE screen saver not working properly.
Has the KDE screen saver been fixed/updated in Centos 4.3,
or do you still need to use xscreensaver instead?

However when I turn on the screen saver with password and the screen locks I

Screen Saver
I know this is a little off topic but I know a lot of people use Samba to
authenticate pcs and this may be useful. I was wondering if anyone has
written a screensaver for Win95/98 that is password protected based on the
current user, who has already been authenticated through Samba. So that
if a user forgets to log out of the machine the screen saver comes on and
can only be disabled by the user

xfce on CentOS 7: can't lock screen
Ok, trying to bypass the usual flames (I used CDE for years, then
KDE until it got dumbed-down too much, and we all know how GNOME
has turned out) ... I've decided to try out xfce on CentOS 7.
I grabbed xfce from epel by installing the following via yum:
epel-release
@xfce
So far it's pretty good, and is giving me the basic features I'm looking
at without getting in my way.

USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via
the lp0 port.
I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just
fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's
instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base
driver without the CUPS installation did not work.
Every so often, which actually appears to be

C 5.2 and VMWAre error
A colleague has a newly built 64-bit CentOS 5.0 system that, through yum
updates, has become CentOS 5.2. VMWare Workstation and Player work fine
for my account on it. But a recent configuration of something under
their account has produced:

Screensaver (or screen blanking) at login screen - CentOS 5.2 or 5.3
Hey guys,
I've done a ton of googling, searching and asking in the forums, etc, and I haven't found a way to do this... :)
I'm trying to find a way of having some type of screen saver at the login screen so that if I leave a machine not logged into, it won't burn-in the screen.
Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? In specific, I'd love to have it simply blank the

Strange screen-blanking problem
My desktop at work is CentOS 3.8, using the motherboard's onboard
Intel 865 (82865G) graphics controller. Most of the day today I've
been having sporadic instances where the screen simply goes black for
about 2 seconds. It has nothing to do with whether I'm using the
mouse or keyboard (or not) and the delay before it comes back on is
not correlated to whether I *continue* to use the

Script for enabling screen savers in GNOME and KDE on Centos 5.x
Hi Friends,
I am trying to configure screensavers settings on Gnome and KDE
running Centos 5.x 32-bit environment. I need to prepare a script
which will be push by Puppet and this script should be able to change
settings like idle_delay, set customized password-protected screen
saver, enabling lock etc..
I have tried below commands for Gnome and somehow the settings are not
taking place. The

Widescreen monitor won't configure to a wide screen
I just put a 1680x1050 LCD monitor on my home system, and I went into
system-config-display to configure it as such, and it just won't take.
I had to tweak some of the settings by hand, but when I log out, I get
the wide screen for both the Nvidia driver splash screen and the login
screen.
But, when I log in, It jumps back to 1280x1024 and refuses to run in
wide screen mode.
Here's the

Login screen is not always coming back
I noticed a few days ago that my secondary login screen, usually
accessible through the screen saver pop-up, was not coming up. All
that showed was the cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.
Yesterday, in an effort to see if a logout-login would clear this up,
I discovered that the main screen (console 7) logged out with the
usual text trails on the screen, but the login window never

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all,
I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the
video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After
extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it.
In my home .xinitrc
setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0
xset s off
In /etc/rc.local
/usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0
I've tried both to no effect.

Severe VMware slowdown
In the last few days, I have noticed a drastic slowdown in my VMware
Windows guest OS.. I recently bit the bullet and upgraded it from XP
SP1 to SP2, and that seemed to work fine for quite a few days.
The two major changes I made to the system recently were:
1) The most recent update from CentOS (can't remember which one, but
it was within the last two weekd for 5.0).
2) Adding another VM

Asterisk and VMWare
Hi,
There is any experience using Asterisk with VMWare?
I think about installing a virtual linux box over VMWare and then Asterisk
over it.
Thanks,
